Re: 2024-25 College Hoops Discussion
I could write forever about last night but I won't. But it was wild being on the other side of this one. Duke felt like Kentucky in past years. Young and talented. But just ran outta gas in the end.
Kentucky won because Pope made adjustments at the half. The defense was cranked way up in the second half, and minus Flagg, Duke got bottled up and Kentucky kept the pressure on them the entire half and in the end "Experience won out over young talent"
And Pope really ran circles around Scheyer in those final 2 or 3 minutes. Especially the last two plays it seemed like Scheyer just let a 17 year flagg go make a play. And that's tough. As good as he is. Everyone knew who it was going to and he got trapped in no man's land.
I couldn't dream of a better start to the Pope era. You can't win over this fan base any quicker then beating Duke 3 weeks in.Last edited by DamnYanks2; 11-13-2024, 11:01 AM.Comment

Here's an interesting nugget from Twitter...
Last night at Champions Classic, teams used a Spalding basketball that teams don’t normally play with
Kansas shot 29% from 3
Duke shot 17% from 3
Michigan St shot 12% from 3
Kentucky shot 40% from 3…and Pope said afterwards the team practiced with the Spalding ball all weekComment

Cal would never. It's just another game blah blah blah. Forgot what a real coach looked like.Comment

anyone else curious about the 7 foot 9 guy being listed as the tallest teen male? Is there a female taller?
anyway, good on him to redshirt, he actually doesn't look as spindly as other giant players, if he can get work on conditioning and footwork he could be a rotational guy and not just an anomalyWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

That wasn't good. Tough atmosphere. But weakness showed if this team doesn't hit threes.Comment

With the loss of Pryor and Johnson for the rest of the season, I think its going to be a long winter for Louisville.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

#2 Auburn travels to #9 Duke tonight.
I don't love the matchup for us. I thought we matched up very well against all three teams we played in Maui but this one is a bit trickier due to the hostile environment, Duke's size, and experience at guard.
I almost think there's going to be a period of feeling out the game and trying to minimize damage because Duke is young but also very tall and Broome hasn't been his best against those guys at or above 7' tall.
I would love to see Broome go off but the offense may go as the guards go and that's an area where we still have a lot of room for improvement.
It's a tough matchup but a testament to the quality of program Auburn has become over the last several years that we get Duke at home. Little kid me never would have thought that possible..Comment

Didn't expect Creighton to beat Kansas. The whistle was trash @Duke against Auburn. But what else is new. Duke probably still deserved to win. Kept hitting shot after shot down the stretch.
And Carolina decided that defense was optional last night against Bama and looked incredibly mid.Comment

Re: 2024-25 College Hoops Discussion
Michigan held off a similar comeback against Iowa, couple 1 loss teams cuttin' it up. Hair splitting review at the end, got upheld. It's weird remembering Iowa basketball is totally different than Iowa football, they go fast and they score
but anyway, I just wanted to give a shout to the graphic for Michigan's frontcourt of #50 and #1 and it said "Area 50-1" it made me chuckle, I'm a dorkWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment
