2005 UNC comparisons to 2003 Syracuse

Other than the 1/2 seeds, their FF runs are eerily similar in talent and NCAA Tourney roads.

Marvin Williams and Carmelo are equally talented freshman, only diff. is Marvin won't bail after 1 year
    Sean May and Hakim Warrick
perimeter threats Felton and Gerry Mac
The post defense of Duany and Jawad Williams are unstoppable

    Also in FF roads
The surprisingly 1 point squeaker in the Sweet 16 department: 03 Cuse had Auburn and 05 UNC had Nova. Both games final scores, 67-66 with the underdogs making a final 3 to make it that close

Syracuse beat 3 straight Big 12 teams with Kansas the title clincher. UNC already beat Wisconsin, and are staring at 2 more Big Ten teams before they get the title with MSU on Saturday.

Also of note, the other semi in 03 and 05 included the national title opponents vs an unexpected Final Four guest (Kansas had Wade led surprise guest Marquette in 03, and Illinois will host FF surprise Louisville Saturday)

    Eerie isn't it?

I thought Duany was a guard.

Please check back in a few weeks, Williams has already said the NBA is an option after this year. And he will be a top 3 lock, I don't see him coming back, but I guess it could go either way at this point. Too early to say he won't "bail" though.

While Marvin is extremely talented, his role on this UNC team is completely different than Carmelo's on Syracuse. Carmelo might have been the best player in the country, and Marvin rarely sees more than 25 minutes or so. Also, I'm not even gonna think about Marvin leaving early yet. He's made statements that he loves being at UNC, and I'm just going to enjoy the ride while it lasts.

As airbarrett said, calling Jawad Williams unstoppable in the paint, on either end, is laughable especially considering his performances lately. I know he's hurt, but even a healthy Jawad isn't really a post player.

Jawad spends just as much time as I do in the low post. Hardly at all.

this year was just like last year for him. started out great, had a few injuries and is virtually non existant now.
