AI never attempts layups & always passes out.

Yeah nothing has changed for me on PC yet. Don't know if there was an update on consoles, but on PC AI still runs the same play all the time, then drive and kick.
They do take more layups but that's because I adjusted the sliders.Comment

That could be a part of it, but when I messed around with the offensive coaching strategies, I noticed that the freelance choices being on auto defaults to “drive and kick”, which specifically states it’s for the AI. When I changed it in game and selected other options and also chose dynamic, it changed from just the drive and kick with 5-out like it has by default.

Unfortunately the condition a game "ships in" is irrelevant anymore. Last year the game shipped with teams making no substitutions but it was (somewhat) quickly fixed. So while they focus on online issues, the narrative that they will ignore game breaking offline features just isn't true.Comment

Yes this is what I think it was. Because I played after the patch and didn’t see a difference, but I got an “update required” in game last night and after I went to the menu and started another play now game, all 3 games I played had plenty of layups and rotating freelance possessions rather than just drive and kick. Played the TWolves, Bulls, and Lakers and all had a variety of different offense types.Comment

When you come across the message "Update required" it means 2K is implementing a gameplay tuner. This can be all sort of things: Tendencies, coaching updates, team playbooks and also pure gameplay tuning. Big patches recently tend to deal exclusively with online issues and fixing shooting inaccuracies/bugs tied to online. The fix for the drive and kick can be easily dealt with these small updates. The problem is that 2K right now doesn't communicate with the offline sim community which is disappointing.👍 8Comment

Then why keep buying it every year?
I skipped 2k23 and 2k24 because 2k22 I wasn’t a fan of. I got back in last year when they had a free play weekend for 2k25 and they made plenty of gameplay adjustments throughout the year for offline. I also wasn’t buying this year until I found out that the injuries and the two-way contract issues were fixed (which were big ones for me in 2k25).
Clearly their focus is mostly on online so that’s their top priority since most of the people who play the game play online now, but they did make updates for the offline players last year. So they’ll ship it and make the release date and fix things up throughout the year. The 2k higher ups set the date, the devs have to release what they have to meet that date.👍 3Comment

Unfortunately, that would not fix it. The problem isn't the values, it's that the column within the Roster Viewer/Quick Edit menu that would show that value is completely missing. It's normally between Step Through Shot and Spin Layup, but right now it isn't there at all.
This is notable because each roster (Kobe Era, WNBA, etc etc etc) uses a DIFFERENT spreadsheet. It isn't a matter of them accidentally deleting the column. This means one of two things:
1. The tendency was discontinued (as with the Attribute examples). Which seems either erroneous or premature, if that's really the case.
2. Bad coding leading to the column getting lost (which.... would be a first in 25 years).NBA 2K25 Roster: Real 2K Rosters - Modern Era

Agreed, and I’m ok with the passes since the number is way less. Some are even thrown out of bounds, which is something that hasn’t happened the last few years where we desperately needed non-steal CPU turnovers.Comment

The gameplay tuning this week that has somewhat eliminated the Ben Simmons Problem is all well and good, but to be clear: the problem that I have been highlighting has not been fixed. At all.
I've gone across the Eras rosters, I've changed sliders, I've switched out freelances. The results are the same: the CPU rarely performs any driving layups. I've seen step-throughs and floaters and the occasional hop step and Eurostep layups. Plenty of dunks, of course. The rare contact layup if the player has the Physical Finisher badge. Standing layups off of putbacks or cuts or dump-offs. But no driving layups: Plain Jane, straight off the dribble, attacking the basket type of layups.
I really hope the problem is fixed soon, rather it's through putting the column back or tying the Driving Layup attribute to another tendency (Like Close Shot or Under the Basket) or some other solution. I just want the CPU to once again be able to attempt the most common shot in basketball.👍 1Comment

Where are you guys seeing this drive and kick option?
I go into CPU gameplan a see all the usual ones (pound the ball inside, pick and roll etc).
