Re: Just Noticed the MyPlayer Skill Caps...Trading this game in today
This actually doesn't work. Giving players full control leads to dead communities a la Torchlight 2, Diablo 2 and other titles where things were moderately monitored.
I'm okay with the caps personally. It gives signatures a purpose and allows players to specialize in certain aspects. I'm sorry, but I tend to believe a shot close at 92 with a finisher skill level 3 is definitely a 99 shot close.
All games in the series had caps and not having caps would be lazy in my opinion. Centers who can run as fast as a point guards? No thanks.More user control doesn't have to equate to ridiculous experiences. Whether its within a league or online match I'm all for caps. However there's nothing inherently wrong with allowing a commish to dictate what's allowed and what isn't. I certainly have no issue with caps put in place for a level playing field online either.Originally posted by RumbleCardand having some online parameters is more than reasonable if you're competing with other users.
But if some guy wants to go nuts with his offline MyRPG let him. That is if he has a connection and the servers are up and he wishes to play by himself.PS4 - CoastalRyan

Glad you've had a chance to reply in a thread where you actually have a valid argument.
Why don't you hit up my numerous threads/tweets about how my main 95 overall save file hasn't been playable for over a week.
Oh wait, I did get an answer to my ticket. That was 4 days ago, he/she asked me questions already answered in the original ticket and linked a MS website for troubleshooting a console not able to download updates....

If you don't know for 100% certainty don't say it. That would eliminate alot of the "I think" crap that's floating around

Re: Just Noticed the MyPlayer Skill Caps...Trading this game in today
Of course it's optional IF you only play one mode. Try to play My Career, My GM, and My Team. You'll see quickly that that those My Team packs, My GM facilities, AND My Career attribute upgrades can't all be bought with earned VC.I've sat by quietly on the subject but I need to get this off my chest. Before I begin, I will quantify my statement by saying I've only played MyCareer and haven't touched MyGM, so my statements are only regarding the mode I am familiar with at this point. The only problem with VC is that it must be tracked and accounted for online via 2k's servers. Meaning if and when their servers faulter, as everyone knows they frequently do, then files become inaccessible and modes become virtually unplayable. That's it. You never need to spend a single penny on VC. It's an OPTION to purchase VC should u CHOOSE to speed up progression. Or gamers can be patient and continue to play the game and accrue the VC necessary to unlock items later. It's that simple. I'd had the game since it came out. I have a shooting guard who plays for the Nets and he's a 99 overall. I've maxed out every attribute and he's unstoppable on the court and has gone for 100+ points now in 4 different games. Whether your 3 point shot caps at 92 or 99, you will still be highly effective and at better than anyone in the league. And even at 99, u won't shoot 3's at higher than 40 to 50% from the field. U want to get that stat higher. Use the VC u EARN from the game and purchase the arm sleeves that boost the stat past your cap. I now have I've 14k in VC just sitting there on my account and I haven't spent a penny. Play on Hall of Fame and it will double the VC u earn each game, making anything u want to buy withinh reach in no more than 3 games. My point is the constant complaining about VC has gotten overblown as it is no differnt than a skill point system in any other game or RPG or point system in Call of Duty. All they did was implement an option to allow u to skip ahead should u choose. U can't get upset if someone puts something on sale and then u choose to go buy it. Otherwise exercise patience and earn everything as the game was originally designed. Max out everything on your guy and trust me, he'll still be head and shoulders above any other player in the gameComment

Yes it can be. Although, I agree certain things aren't proportioned all that well, but I also agree that people's desire for instant gratification gravitates arguments towards the whole "it's impossible without buying VC argument.
I'm doing it myself. I haven't spent one dollar on VC and I am playing all those modes. The trick is to focus on one or the other.
Plus the locker codes. I've gotten over 30K VC from them.Check out my gaming channel YouTube.com/OffTheBrinkTV for Tips, Tricks, Tutorials, Walkthroughs and Let's Play videos!Comment

There shouldn't be a "trick". I should be able to play whatever mode I want, when I want (that includes when i'm offline)Yes it can be. Re: Just Noticed the MyPlayer Skill Caps...Trading this game in today
Double-Double, some blocks, steals, boards and A+...That's an easy 1,200-1,600 VC without multiplier. And if you add in the social media challenge and milestonesyall average 1,500-3,000 vc per mycareer game? i just started playing it at HoF difficulty, thinking i'd at least crack 1k per game with the 2x multiplier, but in my first go, i had a "Great" game, we won, i was the player of the game, i hit 1 of 2 dynamic goals, and i only pulled in around 740 vc. i don't think i got a double-double, and i missed that one dynamic goal ... had i gotten those, would that have bumped me up to this 1,500-3,000 range?? i've seen chris smoove make 1k+ vc in his vids ... at 25/8/3ish in my first game (i forget the exact numbers), i feel like i should have pulled a pretty dang high vc number.
and as an aside, i don't think this will be popular opinion, but i kind of agree with Superman38134. i haven't bought any VC and just cracked the 90 overall rating barrier last night. i've had the game since day 1, and i've played a lot, but not like 8 hours a day. maybe a couple of days a week, 3ish hours a day (2 or 3 games apiece). i've only played MC too, so i'm not sure how it all works out when you play multiple game types, but i just refuse to pay for VC. i won't do it. i've gotten totally destroyed in The Park because dudes were 99s in the first week and i was a scrub a$$ 65. i could hear them clown my clothes and my skills over their mics, but i was not spending a DIME of my VC on no damn clothes.
maybe my contentment with the system will dissolve if and when i start a MyGM season. i keep hearing about paying some sort of currency just to juggle rotations. that's absurd if that's the case. i mean my 2 cents: keep the VC system intact for MyCareer, but for god sake, have an association-like gametype where i'm just a damn GM/coach dealing with players. selling hot dogs and juggling MyGM points or whatever the hell else happens in that mode ... it's all fine and dandy, but let an old school cat like me just play that bare bones game type.

Re: Just Noticed the MyPlayer Skill Caps...Trading this game in today
This is outright ridiculous. I was already irritated with their shoving VC down my throat, never being able to connect to the 2K servers, and my game crashing every 10 minutes causing progress loss. Then, after upgrading my MyPlayer's attributes after a game, I noticed that pretty much every single stat capped off at or around 92. At that moment, I was stricken with the confirmation of what money hungry bastards 2K have become over the years since the addition of this atrocious Virtual Currency system. What these caps mean is that if you want your player to be at full potential on the court and get any stat past the cap, you have to constantly purchase temporary boosts which only last a few games. Just another reason to get us to keep spending VC and influence us to pay for more.
I swear to god, it's like I'm playing a free-to-play game at this point with all these restrictions and micro transactions. They are pushing VC way too hard, there is just no way to properly enjoy all this game has to offer anymore. With this **** tied to one bank, you have to sacrifice putting points into your MyPlayer if you want to do stuff in MyGM or buy packs in MyTeam. These should all be separate experiences and I shouldn't constantly feel like I'm grinding to enjoy what, under all of this crap, is a great basketball game. So yeah, I'm done with their bull****, getting rid of my copy. I really hope they get their act together come next year, or else it'll just be another 2K basketball game I won't be buying.
Michael Jordan is the best player of all time and not even Jordan has a 99 on every skill.
There has to be a cap, it forces you to put the skills in the type of player you want to create.Comment

Re: Just Noticed the MyPlayer Skill Caps...Trading this game in today
RPG always have level caps. You can never max out all skills in a RPG.I gotta agree with this. Of course I don't want to compete against 7'5'' PG's with crazy skills...and having some online parameters is more than reasonable if you're competing with other users.
But if they're going to shove the RPG aspect into the throats of every mode allow people to create the fantasy they want to create.
This is the fundamental problem with their entire vision of what this game should be. They insist on limiting the control of the user. Nothing exemplifies that more than MyGM. News flash, if you want happy gamers give them control...over everything.Comment

Re: Just Noticed the MyPlayer Skill Caps...Trading this game in today
Except 2K decides the caps, not you. You don't get to choose. And these caps make little sense. My small forward is limited to 80 quickness. That's barely above league average for the position. Yet my limit for post fadeaway and hook is 95, which is the same as on back to basket PF/C. Why?
Not to mention there's a clear indication that the caps have been tweaked so that people would buy training boosts. Almost every skill is capped lower than it was before they were introduced.Comment
