This is a problem, and one I've tried to address somewhat with sliders, but if I go too far in that direction to prop up the CPU, gameplay becomes too extremely cheesy for the CPU. And that does nothing to address games you sim and don't play.

The MyGM upgrades, to your character and to the facilities, basically hack the game beyond all competitive realism. You can make trades and accumulate 20 first round draft picks after a few seasons even though your team loses only 3 per year and wins every Championship. Your roster is loaded with 99's with A+ potential and backups in the 80's.

If you have to dump a player whose rookie contract is ending because of your cap, you can send off your backup 24 year old 90 PG to a team with a 20 year old high first round rookie 82 center. Your trading partner may have a roster full of PG's, SG's, small SF's and one old PF and the rookie future star C, but they will happily thank you for taking their future star rookie center for the privilege of adding another young PG to the roster. And they'll throw in a first round pick if you want.

Any C+ young player you add to your roster becomes an A+ potential player, but if you trade him, he may revert to C+ on the other end, so what your trading partner thoguht was a rising star turns out to be just a guy with a 62 rating. Too bad he traded you his crown jewels to get him.

Playing MyGM after the upgrades means having to set rules for yourself and not doing all the things the game will now allow you to do. It becomes a compromise, but your team will not ever revert to mediocrity unless you purposely break it apart.
Funniest thing is that if we had 30 team association with full administrative control this would never be a problem. Every problem would be fixable.
    MyTeam:

    PG: Russell Westbrook/Stephen Curry/Gary Payton
    SG: '91 Michael Jordan/Monta Ellis/Diamond Kobe
    SF: LeBron James/Julius Erving
    PF: Blake Griffin/'98 Tim Duncan
    C: Bill Russell/1994-95 Shaq

If you're able to realize that the trade logic is broken then you can always CHOOSE not to take advantage of it. Nobody is forcing you to pull off unrealistic trades. A little self control can go a long way

Yeah, that's why I wrote this part, but maybe you didn't read that far:

You're correct, didn't make it to the end after reading that. If anyone is looking for a realistic experience they have to play by a set of rules in every sports game. This game is no different
