I don't get the angle for 2k to include so many grossly incomplete teams, for some they can barely produce a good starting 5 like the 06-07 Warriors. Now in a vacuum plenty of these teams are still good and I cannot argue or disagree with 90% of them, BUT knowing we can include so many teams based on the players they actually have rights to, the decision to include some of these seems odd..what is their angle here?

Creating the team, jerseys, courts, and hopefully securing the rights to the team's top players is more than half the battle. For classic fans and classic roster makers, that's doing us a huge favor.

In the case of the 2007 Warriors, we now have access to players like Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Stephen Jackson, and young versions of Monta Ellis and Matt Barnes (and Adonal Foyle for all you Colgate diehards out there). That's a very healthy chunk of that team's biggest impact players. In addition, this team was always particularly difficult to create on our own because there was no court that could be realistically substituted in as their own (the modern Warriors court looks nothing like it).

All that said, if you're strictly an online person who was counting on using mostly full versions of these classic teams in online battles, then I understand your pain (though filling out full rosters has proved difficult since 2K first introduced these teams in 2K11).

Otherwise, someone's going to fill out these rosters shortly after release. A created Al Harrington isn't going to look spot-on, but if the Create-a-Player system is the similar to last year's, he could end up looking close. The same goes for a lot of the missing players. Using the 2004 Pistons with created versions of Rasheed Wallace and Corliss Williamson was a great experience last year. I see no reason for it not to be the same case with these new teams.

That still doesn't explain why you choose a team with 6 players over one with 8-10.

Respectfully, I'm not sure I follow your response. My belief is 2K chose the best, most interesting, most exciting, or most desired teams they could. The 2007 Warriors have been popping up in classic team request threads for years. It sounds like 2K did their best to follow through and provide a strong enough core of players to warrant their inclusion.

If I had to guess, 2K likely takes into consideration a couple of factors:

            1) Was the team in question either a champion (1991 Bulls) or notable championship contender (1991 Lakers) or otherwise noteworthy for its exciting style of play or cultural impact (1993 Hornets, 2000 Raptors, 2007 Warriors)?
            2) Can they secure a given team's superstar piece? (Plural in many cases)
            3) Can they secure between 6-12 roster pieces that includes the aforementioned superstar(s) and, ideally, enough supporting players to at least create a realistic starting lineup and some feasible options off the bench?

Personally, I'm not sure I follow the logic of anyone suggesting 2K drop a team because they couldn't add a few key players. What would that solve? We never had the 2007 Warriors before. So no one benefited. There was nothing to benefit from because nothing existed. But now? We have a 2007 Warriors team, it includes a number of players that we won't have to create shoddy replications of, they're playing on their real court, and we have the option to fill the rest of the roster out with our own creations. A lot of people are going to benefit from their inclusion, and that's why they're here.

It can't just be about how many players can be included. As an extreme example, a 2015 Pistons classic team could probably go 12-14 deep. But no one would ever, ever want that. Ever. And maybe even a slightly more recent Warriors team could have had one or two more real players included. But then that wouldn't be the 2007 Warriors anymore. And many of us have always wanted the 2007 Warriors. It's about a convergence of which teams are special and whether 2K feels it has enough assets to warrant its inclusion. I'm glad they've added all the teams they have.

With all the new legends in 2k19, maybe its time to bump this thread!

Reggie Lewis has been confirmed for Historic Draft Classes, so the 1987-88 Celtics got now 9 players:

Bird, Parish, McHale, Ainge, D.Johnson, Sichting (all from 86 Celtics), ARTIS GILMORE (ALL-TIME BULLS & SPURS), REGGIE LEWIS (HISTORIC D.C.) and JIM PAXSON (All-time Blazers)

Dallas Mavericks 1987-88 got now 8 players in game:

Blackman, Aguirre, Wennington, Perkins, Schrempf, Derek Harper + BRAD DAVIS & JAMES DONALDSON, both on All-time Mavs now

Bump. Was talking about this in legends thread, we should clean it up a bit and update, it would be hella helpful for roster makers, especially with player DNA so we don't have to remove players from one team to put on another

Went through and cleaned things up a little bit. Eliminated the teams 2K actually added (four or five more on top of what they did back in 2016) and added three more so far (1997 Bullets, 2002 Pistons, and 2002 Hornets).

Also, a lot of the newer alternate classic options that used to be really viable from 2007 on forward have taken some big hits over the years as players have retired but not re-joined the game via retired players union. I left some of those teams listed anyway but pulled some others.
