NBA 2K15: Tweet From Scott O'Gallagher Claims 1-3-1 and Charge Cheese Eliminated
Technically, I don't. That's why I enjoyed the HOF Lobbies because first of all, most were good legit players because there was no record or anything to cheat for. And I could just quit out the game if I wanted to if someone was spin dunking and hop stepping every possession.
In 2K11 it was an exploit. An automatic spin dunk that you couldn't stop isn't fun at all. First they would go to the post and if they did that you would have to just jump in the air, reach, or call a double team. Some were so good they did it without the post which was really the most unstoppable.
The Hopstep wasn't so bad outside of crew, but simply isn't basketball doing the same two things over and over down the court that has the same highly successful result. You say just stop them, and I guarantee that you wouldn't stop a experienced user at doing this.
I don't know you, but I am pretty sure you can't beat me in ANY 2K game and definitely not in 2K11. So, you're not talking to a scrub at all. Those two things were the only problems to me w/ 2K11 and an experienced user would kill you more times than not especially w/ the spin dunk.
I could beat offball players any day, but to me, it's boring, I want to play online, meaning play against a human user. Not just play defense against one. It's weak, and if that's how you play, I feel you play weak. At least try to play D instead of just sitting on one guy sitting there. But if that's how you play, cool. I personally believe people that do play offball most of the game know their onball defense and stick skills are not good. And I can respect that.Last edited by KobeBean8; 08-28-2014, 09:24 AM.Comment

I've always found that the CPU defenders don't play very good on-ball defense anyway. I usually play on-ball, and I'm always ready to quickly switch to a big whenever I see a pick and roll coming. Not only is it more effective (for me at least), but it's a lot more fun and engaging than just standing around away from the ball.
That being said, it would be ludicrous to force people to play one way or the other.Comment

Funny how people play hot potatoe defense and quickly run away from offensive players that have the ball. Lazy gamers wanting CPU to do all the work then come onto forums and complain when CPU sucks on defense#SIMNATION

I only play on ball if I'm actually playing someone next to me. Online with the slight delay in lag and you expect me to stay in front of the guy? Yeah no...I'm playing center through and through....besides it's my game and I play it the way I want to.Comment

That's a cool excuse. But, it's not impossible to play onball online, try it and learn how to adapt to it. But like you said, it's your game, keep letting the CPU do your work.
Wonder if guys would play offball offense as well if they had the chance lol.Last edited by KobeBean8; 08-28-2014, 11:34 AM.Comment

Then again, even when playing against my brother offline (in the same house), he has a certain love for attempting to turbo from one end of the court to the other with a point guard while spamming dribble stick moves. I often feel my help defense cannot recover well enough in time. So in that case, I'll also switch to offball, especially when he so adamantly refuses to use his teammates.
From the sound and looks of it, online NBA 2K competition and offline solo play or fun with friends & family is just two completely different worlds. I care very little about how my video game abilities are perceived and the folks I play 2K with on my couch are usually pretty agreeable regarding our styles of play. If one person begins doing something lame, it usually takes a comment of, "Dude..." and then it rights itself.Comment

Sorry to say I only half sympathize with online lovers.
Play with friends and people you know. ... otherwise you're going to be complaining forever. .... and I could care less playing with someone telling me how I should be strategizing my own side.
It's not 2ks fault. They can fix as much as they want. If someone wants to cheat then they'll find s way. This goes for 2k call of duty or whatever. They'll find another exploit and it's a never ending cycle with online players.
People hated the 131 and now people are complaining about why they removed it and how it was a cop out.

Appreciate the good post, VDusen04. I honestly don't care if people play offball, it's just something that's annoying. I play offline and online, but the way I play offline is the same I play online.
I think it's cool people control their defense different ways and it makes it more enjoyable for me to figure out how to crack their defense. But, someone who just sits on the big man, but then you give your big man the ball and they switch off to let their CPU play D 100% is just weak to me.
Like I keep saying, I thought you play someone else to test your skills against them and to see who's better? If I wanted to go up against the CPU, I would play association and MP Mode. I want to see how your stick skills are. I mean, that's what I thought the purpose of playing online was honestly.Comment

Off ball defense is fairly easy to beat. Call for a screen or try to get the guy the user is guarding in motion . Usually he's playing offball for help defense . Drive and kick . Sometimes you can catch him sleeping and throw the oop. Use the fake pass and pump fake . I'm guessing they're controlling a big ? He just wants a big time block so fake him into it . Make them believe you're giving them that and kick out ... To their matchup. You will really hurt them if you have a Big who shoot . Might have to go to a smaller lineup and play 4 out 1 in#1 Laker fan

I'm 80+% on ball, maybe touched 1-3-1 once in 2k12, don't spam steal, love the anti spam put in, hate the Clippers and exclusively use GSW. Because I'm a diehard fan and is why I know about their off ball help schemes.
I mean just look at my avatar. No one with that avatar could use the Clippers and not be ashamed.
You literally could not be more wrong on every single point.Comment

I guess I was wrong. I thought you went online to play a user and not the CPU lol. You could have FUN playing the CPU.
Nonetheless, if you find sitting on one person and then when the person you're guarding gets the ball you switch off, fun, then that's fine lol.Comment

People are just wary that 1-3-1 was removed because they actually failed to plug the holes in the gameplay that made it overpowered-- but that's apparently not the case, and it was removed in addition to needed fixes. So the people who complained complained for the right reason. They just didn't have all the facts on hand.
Not plugging exploits is completely 2k's fault. And 2k seems to be acknowledging that. If people didn't have legitimate complaints and if 2k didn't address them, the game simply doesn't get better and more sim. Just because you can't fix everything at once forever or exploits can be found eventually doesn't mean you give up and accept NBA jam. Blaming misbehaving players has always been the biggest and most disingenuous of copouts-- they're the ones that tell you how far you are from your design goals. And I've always felt how a design truly plays is how it plays at its highest no-holds-barred level.
The game has simply gotten better with anti cheese changes addressing complaints, and I'm glad Mike, Da Czar, and OG are out to squelch that cheese and seem committed to the task long term. I'm glad they don't seem to be discounting complaints from sim guys who want a more realistic game, or shrugging their shoulders and saying "good enough" and "just play with your friends". It's how great things are made.
You simply cannot be serious about game design if you are more willing to blame your users and make excuses for your product than you are in finding faults and holes in your design.
Sorry, this topic just gets me fired up.I've seen a game's community so afraid of unwanted behavior and players that they squelched ideas for what would be popular modes that they feared would attract such players, rather than think about what was wrong with the game mechanics that encouraged such behavior and how improvements would spill over to their gameplay as well. Unrelated or not, the game series never progressed much beyond that and mostly died.
