The defensive is very unforgiving, one gamble and you get scored on. Just stay in front of your man as best as you can and put your hand up when he takes a shot. I learned myself the hard way
THIS. I love the way they depicted this. Solid defense is about just staying in front of your man, anticipation and getting a hand up on shots. Getting a steal or block is just a prize for playing good defense, as my old coach used to say.

The one thing that Czar said that has helped me the most has definitely been feathering the stick, instead of pushing it all the way. The more you commit in a certain direction, the harder its going to be to shift your momentum in another direction if you need to. Practicing light pressure on the stick to make subtle adjustments has really helped me alot.

And PLEASE utilize the defensive settings. They really do help.

Leave space between the defender and his man to take away driving angles/ force an unreliable shooter to shoot

I had some of the same problems. I was shooting in the high 60's and they were in the mid 50's. I upped my difficulty to All Star/Sim. I still do alright on offense 48%-52% most games but I have trouble driving and getting paint points. They still drive with ease and still shoot in the mid 50's. Now, Im starting with All Star/Sim and tuning back the CPU shooting abilities. I don't know if it'll help but I'm hoping it'll give me a more balanced game and fit my skills (or lack thereof)

It means giving the player guarded a bigger Gap so you have enough reaction time to cut off the angle when they drive.

A good example of when to use it

Westbrook is way faster then Ricky Rubio only chance Rub would have is giving space and giving up the jump shot.

If you had someone like Drose on him you could bump it up to play moderate which is one step closer then gap but i wouldnt go any tighter then that with plays like westbrook, you want then to shoot jump shots.

Another example would be Rondo, just Gap him no mater who is guarding him he cant shoot, I play quick match a lot with the celt and ppl make the mistake of pressing Rondo and its bacon for me lol.

                    Re: Defensive Help, Tips

I play mostly MyPlayer as a solid defensive PF and I have found that blocks and steals come more from team D than individual D.

Like others have said, play conservatively and stay in front of your man, dont jump for the block unless you have to or are just extremely confident in your gamble, as more often than not they will either up and under you, shoot with the other hand, or draw a foul.

That being said, if you shade into the passing lanes or towards the paint and challenge inside passes/guys who are driving you will make a huge difference. I had a game where in around 20 min I had 4 blocks and 3 steals, and thats with my defensive skills only in the mid 70s.

Thats of course with a big, perimeter D is a whole nother thing.

I'm having a mixed bag with the Help D. Sometimes it is overaggressive leading to a stupid open jumper/ layup, or it is under aggressive and someone completely forgets what to do and allows an easy layup.

Just body up to them and defend with the left trigger...dont jump and try to block their shots as they will just use post moves and get around you. If you stay in front of them and let the games contest shot animations play out they miss often.

So soft will make him do it really quickly and run back to his guy and hard will make him stay longer to prevent the ball handler from penetrating

Go over or go under- this is for the defender being picked...

If you select to go under the defender will go behind the screen... Do this against players who look to drive rather then shoot.

If you play against a player who can shoot like curry etc go over the screen this should help prevent them from shooting and force them to try something else.

Double seemly means your two defenders involved in the pick and roll etc will double team and trap the ball handler

Ice- this means you want the on ball defender to force the ball handler in the opposite direction of the pick. So your defender would theoretically play a tight defense and deny the ball handler the ability to go pick side.

Oh ok that's cool I new like under or over was but I had no clue what ICE was or what the whole soft thing was.
