I've posted this before elsewhere but it's worth another mention. On average, a player's peak runs from years 3-8. There's obviously plenty of variation, but beginning a decline (albeit a slight one) around age 28 sounds about right.

They begin to decline at 27-30, that's all fine and good, but players do not become completely useless at age 29, especially shooters such as Korver and J.J. Redick, which in my tests were out of the league when they hit 30 or 31 because they lost all shooting skills, and those are two guys that will play well into their 30's pending major injury, there is always room for great shooting in the NBA.

I am working on a formula for editing old guys, but it is really annoying to do this every season.

I'm right with you, though man. 28 sounds great for the beginning of decline or the end of improvement for average players. Guys like Kevin Love and Paul Pierce should steadily stay the course until about 32 and LeBron/Kobe/Michael type players shouldn't start a big decline until 34. It was good the way it was before and I know it isn't a simple fix, as I am not a programmer.

2K did an amazing job with the patch and like all roster editors on this great site, I am hoping that 2K throws us a bone with this progression thing. They have been more on the ball this year with listening to the community than any other year I can remember. Props, 2K. Great discussion here.

Last time i ran a sim, JJ Redick at 32 or 33 was a worse shooter than 2014 Ricky Rubio. Let that sink in. There are so many ways regression can be improved, but just holding shooting attributes to a different standard (which was actually reported to be in the game via a Leftos interview iirc) could do a lot.

I think you summed up that graph pretty nicely actually. Not all players decline the same way, if they did all of the lines in the graph would have the same slope.

I read this article last night and it's an interesting read. However the decline they show is not a much as in the game. Pity. It's really ruining the game.

I would be very interested in this when you get it refined. Seems like editing each player's ratings with a keen eye will be the best option for anyone wanting to start MyLeague within the next couple months. I plan on taking notes on which players regress each off season, and add to the ratings which were damaged. Having a formula to make it less subjective would be great.

Worth noting in the chart: on average, all players in year 10 are still better than they were as rookies. The only situation this could possibly be true in game is if a player progressed a good 15 points from their rookie season e.g. all star candidates.

I wish I could just take a look at the progression/regression code in the game and play around with it, even though it certainly would be complex. Too bad that even with Greg's tool I'm pretty sure this stuff is untouchable.

Does this chart include players that washed out? If so, then the logical conclusion would be that this data is a little skewed to guys that left the game early and are dragging down the later year values.

Either way though, the regression in 2k15 is still not on par with this chart with or without those players.

Could this work, how much does hardworker badge affect regression?

I'm not sure, the article didn't clarify that. If the later year values were being dragged down here though, it would make 2k15 regression look even worse. 2k15 regression is so much sharper than the aging curve shows.

Do you guys think there will be another patch? I somehow doubt it, how was it last year?

this needs to be more of a petition thread & it needs FAR more activity. we HAVE to have a patch for this THIS year considering how MyLeague depth & immersion was crammed down our throats.

many of us have a gaming system solely for to play one mode on one game. NBA 2k MyLeague/Association. $450 for a gaming system & another $60 for a game whose mode that was advertised to me & not expected like many years before only for it to not be playable HAS to warrant an urgent response & patch.

my fellow simmers who's with me lol?

i thoroughly love 2k products & only purchase two games each year both of which 2k owns now. WWE & NBA... i equate this to being given a nice fine china plate at a fancy restaurant that advertises how great the steak is but then they only bring me the steak sauce... I NEED TOTALITY.

I would, but a big patch just came out, and they put a lot in this to please us. and I truly feel they will not have us hanging.

It's not fair but on step at a time.
