Stop letting taller players run through/override me when I cut them off at the baseline. It's like they just take priority even though I beat them to the spot. It's annoying.

I read this post in the cheese thread and it made me think about how many people here could make positive suggestions about improving defense. Please go take a look at that before commenting in this thread.

They need to overhaul the foot planting physics. That's the only way and constructive idea I have towards it.

Someone already pointed out the collision animation that allows the offensive player to essentially push off the defender. This allows the offensive player to unfairly create space for an open look. It just drives me crazy when the CPU does this because it already knows immediately when it's open so it takes the jump shot before I can do anything.

There's also the bricked dunk that isn't a foul but isn't a block either. There's no collision, the defender is kind of just there. Also when the defender falls down when a ball handler runs into him but the ball handler continues on like there was no collision. Fast break ai needs to be retooled. Defenders seem to just pool under the basket, leaving offensive players open on the perimeter.

Those are just a few quick complaints though and not really about improving defense. I think what 2k needs to focus on would be defense around the rim, specifically hands up defense. I just don't know what is and what isn't a foul. Sometimes a guy will get clobbered trying to go to the rim (looks like a flagrant foul) but nothing is called. Other times a foul is called using just hands up defense. There is just too much discrepancy in calls. I know there is in real life but 2k takes it so far to the extreme that I think there is something wrong with the game engine.

2k should let players decide how hard they want to contest a layup. The harder you press the button the harder the contest. The harder you press the more likely you are to commit a foul but the offensive player is less likely to make the layup/dunk. Also implement the verticality rule into the game. If someone is driving to the hoop and you use the right stick to contest you should initiate a jumping, hands up collision like Roy Hibbert does so well. http://www.sbnation.com/2013/12/16/5...indiana-pacers This post on sbnation describes what I mean. I've seen some animations in the game that are like this but it should be more controllable by the user.

nah hands up should be hands up only. No jumping. If you want jump and contest while attempting to vertically jump, you should have to remain stationary while using stick to hands up and jump button at same time.

Yes about the verticality. I put that in a wishlist before. You should have control over arm movement with the right stick. So I said jump to block or agressively block or jump and right stick vertical for vericality attempts use without touching movement. This could also work for trying to deflect jump passes

Co-sign this. I was playing defense in my career and simply put my hands up while in the paint while the cpu tried to finish in close. The game decides to make me jump anyway without my input resulting in a personal foul. This game has way too many automations...
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

The athleticism in this game is so damn exaggerated . Why is everyone Jordan in his prime esque. Make defense fair. Tired of getting stuck in a stupid animation

I wish there is a way for them to let defenders move as smoothly as players with the ball.
some thing to balance out people turbo-ing all over the place. if a offensive player gets by me, cool, but let it be because i made the wrong decision on defense not because of the zig-zag. side note: re mo cap how players catch certain passes, and pick up/dive for loose balls... (pause)
don't have a problem with the animations, just make them look like what they actually are.

Something else I wanted to mention...I think the defensive controls scheme needs to be simplified; as is there are times when you may need to use two shoulder buttons and both sticks to competently defend, on the offensive side just about move under the sun can easily be performed with reasonably minimal and intuitive inputs on just the two sticks, and occasionally one shoulder button...defense needs that same level of intuitiveness and ease of use to its controls.

                          CPU cheating:

The defender will be sagging off but in good position to close out and contest the shooter. Soon as he take a step towards the shooter there's an animation that makes the defender step to the left/right which gives the shooter an open shot.

I only see it when the CPU is making a run.

a Pick n roll badge for defense would be nice.

Stop forcing me to miss blocks when the ball clearly passes right through my hand

Make centers like Jordan actually good rim protectors by allowing them to alter shots, not just block
