    Already disclaimed my exaggeration.

2K is selling a 'lifestyle' to its fans. They don't need to show anybody game play, they got Jordan exclusive cover for pre-order lol

NBA 2K16 Digital Short - Stephen Curry: Beyond the Shadows

Imagine the Evil 2k marketing group is tracking this forum. They see you complain from October to the next October, "cancel your preorder", call the developers lazy etc. etc.....then they see your thread in November complaining about something else in the newest game you bought...

        What conclusion would they draw?

If you fit that criteria, you understand your part of the problem right? Put your money where your mouth is.

        I dare ya'

Yes it was 100X more effective. You get around 10-12 million people watching any given finals game. Whereas you only have maybe 500K looking at gameplay online. And youtube isn't reliable because the same person can watch the same clip 10 times and that counts as 10 views. So yea spending that much money to air during the finals.

I mean this was the First Tease from 2K14 and it still looks like actual Real Life Footage.. the 2K16 stuff looks like Ps3 too me honestly.. is that just the Lightning?

the Nets looks terrible and i never had anything to complain about the ''oversized'' jerseys.. i actually loved the Jersey Movements.. but those new ''tight'' Jerseys are taking any Movements away and i look just Bad imo..

I just hope this is very early Footage im very dissapointed by the Graphics

Actually that 2K14 tease looks worse than 16. You can tell how flat the shading is and that they didn't implement subsurface scattering yet. The LATER 2K14 screen shots looked phenomenal. The only thing that the original lebron trailer does better are the specular highlights, but we've already went on about how they were toned down too much in 15 and seemingly 16.

This is where people get "bad marketing" and "marketing I don't like" confused, lol

You really think that trailer released during the NBA finals did it's job without showing any gameplay footage? Who was their target audience for that trailer? 2K diehards or casual basketball fans ? of just Spike Lee fans?

Here's the thing. They release a "trailer" during the Finals every year and very rarely is it ever actual footage from the coming year's game. It's usually footage of 2K let's say 13, with the 14 logo attached to it just as a hype video or cover guy announcement.

Casual basketball fans...I have said this in multiple different threads and forums. The number of casual fans outweigh the sim fans 10:1. And the number of people who casually get the game because it was the only game on the market compared to the number of guys who got it because it was more sim is probably 20:1.

The footage released of NBA 2k14 during the finals had everyone talking and it was only beta footage.

If you are this impatient 2K's marketing already won tbh.

Yep this is why we need healthy competition.

And I disagree wholeheartedly about 15 playing better out the box than it does now.
Completely agree. I've been keeping up with 2k for atleast 10 years. I remember the "Fear the Fro Fridays" for 2k5, not sure how many heads here were around for that. 2k isn't always 100% the same every year. There's been years where we get some info at E3, maybe a teaser. Sometimes we get some info and a short gameplay in july. But typically late August and September is when we get the substantial info and gameplay drops.

And like others have said it clearly hadn't hurt them up to this point. Even when Live was releasing yearly 2k still stuck to there plans. Tear after year it was the same thing Live would release info early and people would say "uh oh Live's coming at 2k hard this year!" And when 2k didn't respond immediately I'd see comments like "2k is scared. They know they don't have much to show so they are holding off." Yet 2k always ended up with the better reviewed game and, eventually, the better sales.

Whether you like the market strategy or not 2k knows they don't need to market their game months in advance. Their brand is reliable which is indicated by their yearly reviews, dont remember the last time 2k wasnt the highest rated basketvall title. And they have had the best sales for a basketball game for nearly a decade. They have nothing to prove, unlike Live. The only way i see 2k really changing up their strategy is if and when Live, or another basketball game, proves they can change 2k in terms of quality and sales. Even then 2k would probably keep the same market strategy and just step up their game further in terms of game development
