Re: NBA 2K16 Trailer - Livin' Da Dream, A Spike Lee Joint

I always liked the older version of MyCareer where you got drafted where you deserved, or even undrafted if you was a bum...where you had to grind to get a high overall, etc...

But, if they want to go the story-route than actually having a good story that's not like a Disney film than I'm okay with it. I was interested in the whole trailer and I wanna see what it's about. For the most part I play just to get my overall and badges for Pro-Am but if there's a cool backstory as well than it only makes grinding more fun...

Sad I can't bring back Mo "Money" Banks but hey I'll think of something lol
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

Can you not do that with this nickname? Especially when we don't even know the story. Half the trailer talked about doing what you don't want to do, to make it. Maybe this is one of those sacrifices is that you have to take on the nick name someone wants who guarantees you a spot in the NBA. Even if that's not the case, why not just pretend?

If that's still not good enough then cool, ditch the mode but I just don't understand people automatically saying it's a no play due to that. There are modes in various games that don't seem appealing to me but even if they aren't I still try them out to see what I think instead of just automatically cutting it out.
I think it stems from the small tug-of-war that still exists from what the mode was back in 2K10 and what it is now. With titles like MyPlayer and MyCareer, a lot of people expect more customization and control in all areas, not less. And for all we know so far, aside from the nickname thing, this year's mode may provide that.

Anyhow, generally speaking, this has been a full-fledged story mode for at least three years now and some people just miss its more realistic predecessor, where it truly seemed as if it was about each and every one of us carving our own path to the league, on our own terms.

It all requires a bit of an imagination to some degree, but I'm supposing everyone has their limits. For instance, I had no interest in even trying to immerse myself in the idea that I was the type of guy who'd yell at my agent for not getting drafted (as happened in 2K15) and then proceeding to act like a complete tool throughout "my" career.

If I had to guess, things will be at least a little different this year.

Y'know what, how many single player modes allow you to start in HS, play HS games, pick the College you want to play for, play College games and then you get drafted into the league? None. So whilst some of you hate the nickname of the whole idea of a story, think about this, that story allowed 2K to bring Hs and College into a NBA game.

To me the fact we have HS and College should more than make-up for whatever negative you feel about a nickname or the story. No 'Sim' mode gives you that, no sim-heavy game has it, The Show? Nope. Madden? Not a chance in hell. NBA Live? No sir. NHL? Ha they wish.

To play devil's advocate, there would have been no reason 2K wouldn't have been able to include those aspects in a simulation-based MyPlayer mode. But that's neither here nor there. We know so little of how this year's mode is going to play out that a lot of the conjecture remains moot at this point.

Also the dialog from the trailer wouldn't even make sense if the story ended before you made it.

I'm loving everything about this MyCareer. I actually got goosebumps watching that trailer. Next Friday can't come soon enough.
People are saying that because Spike Lee said “When he makes it (to the NBA), I’m done.” and the article from OS says "Lee’s story starts at the beginning, but ends just as you make it to the NBA."

The gist I got from the little blurbs that they've released is that Spike Lee's part ends when you get drafted and then it goes back to being more like the regular MyCareer but with all the upgrades that 2K has made to the mode.

To be fair.. the story had nothing to do with the ability to include College teams. 2K Sports could have gotten those licenses any number of years back.

da throne you can choose to play just one player from a team in myleague now instead of just choosing position play or normal play.
So you can create a player with average stats and play as just that player in an association.
You won't distribute points like normal my player but you will get better more organically from how effective you are on the court.
I would suggest playing that way if you are interested in the improvement of gameplay but don't want the story. That is what I will do in addition to my only playing Anthony Davis only Pelicans franchise.

P.S. I know you from Pelicansreport i'm jruedat there.

That's a really cool trailer but I must say, the events seem extremely scripted. That's not a problem for me but I think 2k should make a non-storyline MyCareer in the next title so that there won't be such a fuss about going on.

I also don't mind the nickname, does it really matter? Frequency Vibrations sounds cool to me and obviously there's a cool/deep story for such a weird name... I really see no reason as to why someone wouldn't play the mode because of it

They could've but they didn't, why is that? Have to think the popularity of the new version of MyCareer has made paying out for College licenses fiscally worthwhile. That and if Spike Lee wants HS and College games then you give him HS and College games.

Interesting.... so we have 90 minutes of cut-scenes before we get drafted. Makes me wonder how involved the high-school and college aspect will be in story.

                      The quote for those curious.

I'm with guys that the name is stupid as hell, but are guys really saying it's a deal breaker on the game and mode as a whole? LMAO. The name is used I'm sure as a means to address your character in the cutscenes. There'd be too much involved in going over ALL the names in the database for recording. Not sure how guys are taken out of the "realism" of the mode because of this nickname, yet past modes of nobody ever saying your name when they're addressing you because it's not in the database was able to be ignored.

But you and I are not NBA players any more than we are spies. Having a nickname that isn't one you like is really no different.

I'm gonna play the **** out of this mode because I've seen some awesome stuff from it and being called Frequency Vibrations doesn't bother me at all. Call me Amadeus Farmington, whatever you want. As long as the gameplay is solid and I can carve out my own path (seemingly, in far more ways than in the past with the endorsements and connections off day stuff) then I couldn't care less. Once it gets to the meat and potatoes of playing basketball, this game is going to be one of the best sports simulation experiences our eyes have ever seen.

                            'I'm not playing this' foh

I liked how in Blitz the league 2, as you played through the career your character was referred to as "Franchise" You could change your name to anything, but during the cutscenes, you were known as "Franchise". The name is a little weird, but if you are saying you wont buy the game because you dont like the name, its your loss...
