Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
He should still have knowledge of the basic improvements to the game and been prepared to answers questions with some depth. WTH is he getting paid for!? Some of you guys make it sound like this isn't his job and he's working voluntarily..Comment

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
Great post!
I mean, yes, it should not have even been called a "Review In Progress". "Initial Impressions" would be better, but why is everyone so mad?
The guy with GSW was really not all that bad. As much as I love 2k, most of my friends are casual pickup and play types who only play if they are somewhere someone they know has the game.
We got to see a little bit of gameplay and a couple impressions. Take it for what it is.
There is a lot of elite snobbery in this thread. In reality NBA 2k sells millions of copies to all type of people causal to hardcore. Reviews also cater to different types of people. Not all people care about free flow offense or shoes/headbands stats in year 3 of a franchise mode. Some people(causal) only care if its fun or better than last year.
IGN is not OS so they obviously aren't going to dive into all menusa of sim basketball(which is fine by many in their audience). This should be obvious. So why all the outrage, hyperbole, and elitism?
Man the internet is kind of getting to me today. Why is nobody positive?

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
I mean, IGN's editors leave obvious misspellings and errors in their articles, incorrectly link pages to titles, and seem to really like run-on sentences so ... maybe they ARE doing it voluntarily.Comment

If any aliens stumbled upon OS, they'd probably think IGN reviewers and people in gameplay videos who don't play sim are amongst the worst people on planet earth

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
I know. It was still revolutionary idea, imo, for NBA 2K MyCareer. With HS and College you could also have few more options like 'Top Prospect', 'Heavily Recruited', 'Mid-level prospect', 'Anonymous' and you'd play 10-ish games in both HS and College and try to prove your worth. That wasn't even about storytelling, that was about choosing where you wanted to start your player off from when it came to attributes, expectations, expectations, etc.. This predated HS and college but I'd take a similar approach to this selection system so everyone can "choose a path" and get the experience they want. (btw for those wondering, this would be entirely its own exclusive mode while Park/Blacktop would become one so as to not have overpowered created players right off the bat)
So basically your story would take a step back from your idea with draft and instead of draft choice use one of the aforementioned options of level of recruitment which would also dictate your 'Hype Level' (another idea) and also your ratings range. For example Top Prospect would have high Hype Level, let's say 95%, and overall in the range of 68-58. Heavily Recruited would be 85% and overall in the range of 64-56. Mid Level would have hype around 60% and overall around 60-54. Anonymous would have hype around 30% and overall in the range of 58-52.
Floor is so low because busts like Bennet, Kwame etc and also late bloomers.
Hype Level would help you be heavily recruited by top Colleges and HS's and also in the draft. It would fluctuate depending on how you play in HS, College and how you answer to press questions and how you get along with NBA and College persona's like Scouts interviewing you etc.
All caps would be the same for same position and play style without taking into account what level of a Recruit you are so that some people are not moaning why do they have 75 rating for 3pter and his mate has 85 cap for 3pter.
Lower level recruits would accumulate Coins faster because they have more untapped potential while higher level recruits would have better overall straight off the bat.
I would also put different playstyles in addition to Inside, Outside and Balanced scorer. Maybe something like 'Crafty', 'Athletic' etc (2K Sports can fill this in :P). I'd give an option to combine several combinations like a wing that is Crafty and has Balanced scorer would have slightly higher caps for shooting and foot work and that stuff but lower athleticism that Athletic Balanced which would have lower skillset caps but higher athleticism both off the bat and as their potential.
Also, for the love of God let us have our contracts and endorsements in millions of dollars and not in Coins. You could make so that you see what you will get from a contract in terms of dollars (for immersion) and press, idk, Y to see what you'll get in coins.Comment

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
Why is this guy getting killed so much? It isn't even the full review in it's entirety- It's just a quick impression...Jeesh
Atleast we got some HD gameplay footage longer than 5 minutes..EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
Because it's mainstream IGN and OS is hipster nation that loves to pretend they're so much better than everyone else because they care about things like compression shorts and pinstriping....Comment

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
I dont know honestly
I do think IGNs reviews have been shady in the past though, plus
People never forget Hilary Goldstein, the one who said 2k should not have plays and we ended up with 2k4 and the series almost diedComment

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
Hopefully one day they can add the many different paths. But spike lee directing a story is better than before. You don't remember the flash-flood complaint threads about being stuck in the D-League on OS on 2k10's day? As far as the story being a plus - the past two year's is a debatable conclusion. We'll see about this year's story.
I hope you are right about this year being the best. The Off-season and off-day simulator system looks like it can be... but the rest, idk. I'll reserve judgement until I spend at least 20+ hours in the mode.
At least he was honest
.
Edit: As far as this "You can't do this" mantra: Yes, you can. A gamer's imagination is a powerful tool to utilize. Give me a list of colleges and universities and nations like we have had in the past and I can create 100's of stories for my MyCareer. When you limit the story to the 10 you have this year, can you do the same? Again, idk but my experiences tells me that you can't. We will see either way.
Just hoping for a stable server. Fixing defense and 3pt shooting already got me excited.Comment

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
I haven't read through thread but watched the beginning of the quick impression. He didn't seem to have a grasp of the level the attention the developer has made to improve the game, instead focusing on broader aspects of the game. Personally, I'd like to see reviewers take into account a developer's effort towards a title. I don't follow all sports titles, but to me it seems 2K16 is up near or at the top in terms of a developer making a comprehensive effort to improve the game across the board.
We've been on information overload for nearly a month now. If the incremental "improve one aspect of a game yearly" status quo is judged no differently than a dev trying to improve a game across the board, what's the incentive to deliver a top notch experience if you're not going to be given credit for making the extra effort?
I think that's one of the big reasons NFL2K5 is so beloved after all these years; 2K seemed like they tried to throw the kitchen sink into that game. And imo there hasn't been that level of an effort in a sports game since. It shouldn't be a "I expect a high level of effort from these guys/expect little effort from these other guys" type situationHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
The problem is the guy doesn't seem informed enough to give an indepth review, which of course OS expectsComment

Re: NBA 2K16 Review in Progress IGN
The guy who does the review at least does know what "zig-zag" and "cheese" is, so more than most people who review NBA2K.
But the gameplay did no impress me, not sure if they played bad or if its a general problem.

The guy using the Bulls looked like it was his first time playing a 2K game ever, and I think the guy using the Warriors was holding back because he definitely was a much better player.Comment
