Will be trying pre-rotate on for a few players. I've actually been using it the opposite way & have been successful but then again I have Whiteside holding down the paint & force all players baseline.

I maybe wrong on winning basketball philosophy but if you have a good shot blocker like Whiteside to protect the paint, isn’t it feasible to force your opponents to the middle?

It would but I easily get weak side blocks when I force them baseline & rotate with Whiteside. It seems as forcing to middle causes more drawn fouls. imo

Having tall, wide wingspan guys definitely matters now. They are a huge help on defense so keep this in my when playing in ant of the modes . Be sure to have some of these guys in the rotation

Great post! These are the "Carmelo Anthony" rules. This is my EXACT strategy agains the Knicks and it works wonders because their team doesn't have any other threats.

Not sure if I would use this with Cavaliers however, too many other pieces.

Trying to create a hectic, rotation heavy defense like the Toronto, I used the Raptors (obviously) vs the Pacers. In this clip, Peterson hedges on the P&R, leaving Hill wide open on the roll to the basket. Biyombo rotates off of his man to help on the roll, and ends up fouling Hill.

This is with Pre-Rotate set to On for Hill, which leads me to believe that Pre-Rotate means "Rotate Towards." It is best used against players good at attacking the basket (Westbrook, Lebron, etc.) or big men good at rolling towards the basket (Griffin, Drummond, etc.).

Using it as On for an entire team is very fun as well. Watching your entire defense ebb and flow as the ball moves. There is a downside though, as a patient team with good ball movement can make that extra pass to beat the rotations.

Nice vid. Next time I play, I'll try and do a super aggressive defense. Go over every screen, hard hedges (and switches) galore, smother on ball, moderate offball (no backdoors), pre rotations everywhere and forcing everyone baseline. If the CPU still manages to score 50+ points in the paint.....

In that game, I went under all screens (except PG13), hard hedge, pre-rotate all, moderate on-ball, and moderate off ball, trying to dare the Pacers to shoot. I didn't get to finish the game, but they took 13 threes and only scored 18 points in the paint in the first half

That was a very late rotation. I dont see much of an effect there....hmm

Here is a better example of pre-rotate. Sorry for the audio, the audio is desynched from the video for some reason. Here, KCP sees Olynyk rolling free towards the rim, so he steps into the lane to stop the roll man.

Edit: I had the off-ball defense set to moderate against Jerkebko, which may make a difference in how far and how quickly he rotates.

Good find with the pre-rotations. Doesn't help though if the cpu (opponent) doesn't use it and keeps playing without help D.

I still think 2k should look at the rotation patterns in a patch.

I've tested yesterday and i'm now sure that Pre-rotate means rotate to the guy for help defense When rolling or driving to the paint.

It definitely does wonders in terms of scheming Your defense the way you like and the way the basketball defenses are shaped up.. Awesome!

True, but in the event a dev comes in, i dont want it to be mistaken for acceptable. Its perfect position to be called for a foul.

Not a fan of that one. KCP was not in a good position at all (although the timing was solid). If you're trying to stop the roll man, you can't allow space for an extra dribble and/or floater.
