I bought this game based on opinions from this forum.
Totally unplayable for me due to transition defense problems and other problems.

This forum has become a 2k-sekt.

Ok this thread served my purpose which was to get the attention of the devs in hope of cleaning this up. We have gone passed the theory stage of whether it is just sporadic or not. The only people who dont see this happening probably plays broadcast view but you are still getting the same results which I will list so a newcomer dont need to flip back

1. Frequent Defensive 3 seconds call
2. Mixmatch defense at a high level without reason
3. player confusion(ie players just leaving players
And let me add the fourth one which I talk about in my videos but never put it on the intial list
4. 2 Players going to a preprogrammed spot leaving wing defender wide open in transition


But I have reflected on this and I have come to one solution to fix this that won't possible 'break' the game.

It is simple:
Don't help me in transition Defense!!

What I mean is I don't won't the 2 ai players to go to that preprogrammed spot, ever. Just have them stay with the man closet to them after the rebound and let ME handle protecting the paint. I even tried the POE crash offensive glass to stop that protect the paint in transition but still the 2 guys after a rebound or missed free throw leave their players and create the fastbreak they was trying to stop that didn't exist in the first place.

Any other suggestions are welcomed but to me this seems to be easier to implement than trying to reprogram extensively the ai. Just have the ai react similar to when the ball is inbound and let me handle what to do with protecting the paint manually.

Thanks for all that have participated in this thread because this game is just a patch away for possible greatness

I play in broadcast and have niticed TONS of confusion in the half court. Blown assignments, leaving to help (when a player is already well defended, even when he's a non-scorer) and leaving pure shooters wide open. You name it this year, and I've seen it as far as "confusion".

This is a serious problem because it does not allow you to slow the game down. I can't even play like the Spurs in real life because nobody gets back on defense. If they fix this, you would be able to actually slow down the pace of the game and turn it into a half-court execution game.

Right now, guys are getting bailed out with easy fastbreak points and don't even have to execute a sound offense. Yet when i try to execute an actual offense, i miss the shot and they get quick easy buckets. What happened to cutting the cheese 2k?

This also kills the offensive rebounding in the game. It doesn't make sense having offensive rebounders on your team because you can't crash the offensive glass. If you try to........you'll be beat down court in 1.5 seconds. So you are forced to put all your guys in Limit Transition and guess what.....no one is in the paint to grab the offensive board. These things are killing the game for me and its sad to say but I don't even feel like playing much anymore.

I play with grizzlies so I understand but any suggestions besides mines on what 2k can do in a patch realistically that would make it right by you. They know the issues now let's give them possible solutions

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. If they could do that then this would work. Also another possible non breakable fix and let me say this is really a bandaid is to go back to the 2k15 way which was as soon as the ball handler get near midcourt they would break out of the transition zone because in 2k16 they just continue in the zone and let players pass them by or ignore wide open shooter by zoning in an area that has been filled causing 4 players in the same area of just 2 offensive players . Will there still be mismatch, yes. But I rather have that than a wide open jump shot or baseline dunk .

The reason I keep choosing the supposedly "easy route" is I fear there ain't no patch fix but a 2k17 fix being that the "2 man preprogrammed no matter what" code is a legacy issue. I hope I am wrong because faster/smarter ai in transition with that slider would be great!

What the hell was that??! Lol. I know that the transition backpedaling is contextually inappropriate in this game (leading to all kinds of broken coverages), but I've never seen it taken to this extreme. I'm going to give 2k16 another shot when the gameplay patch arrives. I'm chillin until then.

I always grab my center and TURBO full speed back and then my power forward and do the same.

I still give up some easy fast break bs

Trust me. I know what you mean. I've got Gortat backpedaling in transition at a snail's pace. Nene too. Both getting torched in transition by PG Lebrons or long inbound passes. Lol. But, I ain't seen nothing like this vid!

The OP has uploaded over 30 YouTube videos as evidence. Even if I try, it's impossible to explain anything going on in them in terms of poor defensive awareness, basketball logic etc. These guys aren't behaving like NBA level players on the floor. More like elementary or middle school, and this is not an exaggeration.

This has to be the most dam-ing post I've seen on OS in the past 3 years as it relates to 2K. I see that Sam Pham put out a video exposing Live for it's terrible defensive logic/non-adaptiveness. Maybe I missed it.. . But, where is a similarly explosive critique video of 2k16???

Has there been any official response to the debacle that is transition defense this year (strange zoning and lethargic out of context backpedaling and 0 awareness), or the indefensible behavior of defensive players leaving pure shooters to seek the paint for no reason? I find it bizarre that this slipped through QA. I noticed the pattern by the 27th of last month...On about my 4th H2H match.

Congratulations on being super-perceptive. I think it's safe to say most of us have no clue what all is involved in their QA process. And with a game with this much content, it doesn't seem it'd be practical to test for everything.

I'm only saying this because the developers aren't infallible, nor did they say they were. A few years ago when people discovered the cpu wasn't double teaming there was a freak out in the board where a handful of people wanted to immediately label the game unplayable if they didn't force [their preferred reaction] from the devs. It ended ugly, resulted in long term members gettting banned, etc.

It's not like 2K hasn't shown us a willingness to try to resolve issues; they don't deserve to be beaten about the head while doing so. And in the end, I wonder if other sports games developers feel it's worth attempting to be ambitious/daring with their product when there's the threat of being jumped on by every little thing by their small/hardcore base of fans.

Just saying. In reading a lot of the complaints some are leveling against the game, there seems to be little perspective as to how those issues relate to the game/product as a whole, imo.
