I'm going to try it at 50 too. I had forgotten about DA, and was wondering why I couldn't do what the CPU was doing.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

I usually keep mine between 15 and 30. I do it more to compensate for overall lag caused by the internet.Comment

Nice post.
I just think that crowding the ball handler should do more to him. I can just Rstick defend crowd running into a guy for 5 seconds and he won't even pick up dribble.

Re: This is the secret to Lockdown On-Ball Defense this year. Put them in a cage.
I must be weird because I still prefer it at 0.
I am still getting used to this year's defense challenges but I am still averaging 2 steals a game and am still locking down my matchup.
When I tried the assist up, I found that my teammates would be caught too often in the middle of shifts and that their "help" was constantly being set-up to fail.
This is all off-line for me; ymmv.Comment

Re: This is the secret to Lockdown On-Ball Defense this year. Put them in a cage.
Looking for some help on L2 usage. Its confusing to me.
In the manual I see
Intense Defense: L2
Crowd Dribbler: hold L2
Dynamic Defensive assistance: Press and hold L2 (press harder for more assistance)
Ive been using L2 for years, mostly to make contact when the offensive player bumps into me. This year it seems like its making me stuck in the mud, and I'm picking up a ton of fouls while trying to defend the post with L2. Alot of these fouls end up being bail out fouls for the CPU when im all over them.
any advice on when these different L2 functions should be used? This is the first year its baffling me. Im also starting to think i probably dont need to use it as much as I do. I normally play very strong D in this series, and Im getting torched this year.
Hope this can get a good discussion going.PSN: PrettyToneyComment

This is a great video by Sam Pham. I found his PnR defense extremely helpful.
As far as, defensive assist....its really about preference. I've seen more riding animations with the assist higher though.

And not to discredit the advice, he is playing 2v2. The higher defensive assist is a complete pain when you're playing 5v5 in online games, because the feature will "pull" your player in a different direction and towards another player on the court. As a result, you'll find yourself "fighting" the controller in the half-court.Comment

Anyway this works in my park? Would you have to go into my career and then change it prior to entering the park? I only ask because my defense is usually pretty spot on against most but if they match me up with a point guard or Sg that's fast and just constantly runs zig zags I can't hang.Comment

Re: This is the secret to Lockdown On-Ball Defense this year. Put them in a cage.
Just gave this a shot in 2 games one vs cpu hornets superstar/sim and 1 online vs spurs.
This along with setting shot contest to always seems to have improved my defensive dramatically (dont really like using always contest but right stick just doesnt work for me). I dont think its perfect, I run into some problems with pick n rolls especially when they plan to drive. Had some issues with the cpu just slipping past me with no contact. Kemba Walker shot 10-25 so did pretty good on him, MKG was giving me a headache tho lol. The online game was only my second so far, wasnt used to the lag (havent playing 2k online in over a year.). I personally felt if i played that guy offline i would have crushed him. But the assist did help me stay in front numerous times.
All in all this is pretty solid, probably gonna drop its a bit and do some more testing. Sometimes it feels like im fighting the cpu to control my defender.

Re: This is the secret to Lockdown On-Ball Defense this year. Put them in a cage.
It's not going to be perfect but like I said earlier it toned down the fast break cheese a bit and also the zig zagging people like to do with steph curry and harden, kyrie included.Comment
