    In the manual I see

    Intense Defense: L2

    Crowd Dribbler: hold L2

Dynamic Defensive assistance: Press and hold L2 (press harder for more assistance)

Ive been using L2 for years, mostly to make contact when the offensive player bumps into me. This year it seems like its making me stuck in the mud, and I'm picking up a ton of fouls while trying to defend the post with L2. Alot of these fouls end up being bail out fouls for the CPU when im all over them.

any advice on when these different L2 functions should be used? This is the first year its baffling me. Im also starting to think i probably dont need to use it as much as I do. I normally play very strong D in this series, and Im getting torched this year.

Hope this can get a good discussion going.

As far as the dynamic defense assistance the left trigger (LT/L2) is pressure sensitive. Try different levels of pressure. I wouldn't recommend pressing too hard. Or as you said you feel like you're stuck in the mud. But you could use the quick shuffle movement by pressing both the left and right trigger (LT/L2, RT/R2) at the same time to keep up with your opponent. While using dynamic defense assistance try to shade your opponent towards your help defense (next closest defender). Also while defending the post make sure you release the left trigger (LT/L2) once the shot animation begins. Use the vertical contest (left stick away from the shooter and Y/triangle) to challenge the shot. That should cut down on your fouls as the defender jumps straight up with his hands raised in the air.

Thanks for the tips! i knew i must have been doing something wrong because i was racking up fouls down low, even when i wasnt trying to really contest.

I think my biggest challenge defensively has been left stick movement, I've been putting too much pressure on the stick and overcommitting on the perimeter.

Not to knock anybody but this takes no skill IMO. If you have this any higher than 50 you might as well let the computer play defense for you. The defense has been improved this year but folks still crank this up to 100. This works in MyPark/Pro-AM as well for those who are wondering. You can tell who has the assistance way up because they ride you like a magnet (especially in 2v2's). I will say having this up too high can hinder you especially if you come across someone who can dribble/create their own shot. You can't slide your feet as well at times because you're trying to go one way and the assistance is pulling you in the opposite direction. Just my 2 cents

Vertical contest is great, of course using Hibbert makes it easier.

I didn't even know all this was possible.

Maybe I should read the manual a little better next time.......

In previous 2K's i would always put my defensive assist slider to 0. This means that I had 100% control of my defender and the CPU would not assist at all. This however, is not as effective in 2K16.

This year, you want to set your defensive assist slider to 100. This gives you the most CPU assist while play on ball. The CPU perimeter defense is really good as we all know, so getting the most help from them is the best way to go.

I don't know how i feel about this yet. I took pride in locking someone up with my OWN stick skills and never liked the CPU assistance. But if you're playing online this is the best counter for all the turbo.

The videos below show a My Team game(which is on a really cheesy difficulty) so if I could stop my opponent like this in My Cheese...i mean My Team, then this on-ball D should work even better in other online modes. I guess its good and its bad. I want ppl to EARN their defensive stops but at the same time i also want more people to play on-ball defense online....which this encourages.

see here. this has to stop 2k. lol. i thought yall said it was sim or die. lol. if its sim. strap up on defense and get your stick skills tight. by default that cpu assistance should be off. and shouldnt be able to be turned on online AT ALL. no help. unless they create 2 sections of online. SIM vs CPU assist.

but to do this, it means 2k has to work even harder on their user controlled defensive animations/contact/collision systems/physics, as well as how those things affect the offensive player.

What is the assist at default?

This is the first time I've played online in FOREVER.

And that turbo dribble up the court crap is one of the most annoying things.

So any way I can stop that would be GREAT.

I always feel like this setting has also an influence on the AI defense. When I set it to 100 the AI defender sticks too much, meaning it is even harder to get around him. Anyone else noticed this? It was the same with 2K15.

Can't say I have noticed that but i'll look out for it. Defensive assist is a big part of the game whether you have it set to 0 or not.

Because the harder you hold down LT, the more CPU assist you get. This is needed to guard guys online that just turbo around the court.

i tried at 100, didnt like the gameplay. tried at 30, fell in luv immediately. the more games i played, the better my onball defense gets. hope its going to better.

i would recommend at 30. btw, am human vs cpu at superstar level.
