The biggest issue is that athleticism is capped so low, and costs the most to upgrade. Most players don't become more athletic throughout their careers; they're pretty close to their peak physical condition right out of college or shortly after, and slow down as their careers progress. It's hard to have as much fun when slow, lanky PFs and Cs are beating you down the court on a break.

The attribute buckets also ruin the experience. I can't make a KG-type PF who can hit the midrange, because I am also forced to upgrade his 3pt rating. When I make a PG, I generally don't want someone who will dunk, or very rarely dunk, but that attribute is tied to others that I do want to increase. If I do want to make a LBJ-type player, I can't even do that because the athleticism is capped far too low. Yes, I can easily get the stats, but it doesn't feel the same as when I'm playing as him.

I'm all for limiting the progression if you're taking your player online, because balance does need to be kept there. But for the offline experience, I should be able to play the way I want to play.

I only care about MyLeague now since MyCareer still has really crappy A.I., but the bottom line is that online play is why we can't have nice things.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Once you hit 88 overall, every two upgrades added earns you +1 overall. You start out with 75 upgrades and unlock 25. You earn 99 overall after you've unlocked 24 of those 25.

An easy example to prove that your MyCareer's overall is inflated. My 6'8" SF is supposedly a 99 overall, while Lebron James is a 94. Where as Lebron is better in every single attribute.
in Pro-AM as a walk on out of my career it still says 89 in the match up screen.

        so there is that.
going up against a guy who is 91 according to the game.

so for mycareer , the park and pro-am its all the same.

up to you if you want to believe me or not.

As people have already said, we need to have separate attribute caps or progression systems entirely for park and career. People who never play a game of MyPark in their lives are being affected by so-called balancing for a mode they never play.

This... just because I want to be good at lay-ups doesn't mean I want to waste points on post hook as a guard. Maybe I want to be good at driving dunk, but not at standing dunk. Maybe I want to have good ball control but mediocre passing.

? You actually can be Kobe in this game.

              -Take horribly contested shots
-Ignore all your teammates on offense
-Earn a teammate grade of "F" (is that possible?)
              -Change ur hairstyle
              -Change ur # ( I think)

Oh wait, you can't get caught up in a lawsuit involving rape

-Nvm, OP is right that you can't be Kobe!

This is correct - my 90ovr 6'6" Balanced SG is actually an official 81ovr outside of My Career.

The overall boost is artificial and this is salt in the wound on top of the caps and bucket system that already strangles our liberation to freely exercise our ability to "build" the player.

If all a 7ft SF could do at an elite level was shoot exceptionally well (for his position): there would be no exploit with the 7ft SF because an insightful cap system would carefully allow elite ability as well as penalties to other abilities the more you reach your cap in any one ability or ability group such as scoring.

^^The Cap system still serves a purpose so that the above situation is not exploited. Why allow a 7ft big to have the handles of 99? It should be fundamentally difficult to perform dribbles at an elite level with that height based on physics and physical probability alone.

I'm genuinely getting by fine with my G but the Park experience is quite dull and bland compared to the swagger and raw excitement that 2k15 offered.

If I could, I would nerf some of my defense for offense. I would nerf some of my athleticism for playmaking. More specifically, I would shave off some blocking and stealing for inside game and possibly outside game. I would further shave off some strength and possibly stamina in favor of more ball control. I would further reduce my passing ability and give some of that to rebounding (something I love to do as an all around G) and post up, possibly (another area of my game I'm proud of).

I cannot agree that we have unique player distinctions until I can confidently say we are able to distinguish different types of players at a deeper level: high energy guys, tough bruiser guys, slender but slick shooters, tough off ball shooters like Joe Johnson, magical guards like Curry, PNR maestro like Stockton, Relentless finishing G's like Westbrook, Hardened Rebounders, Legit Lockdown Defensive Players who that's what they can noticeably do better than others.

The key is to be able to noticeably see all around players , playmakers, and all types of specialists. If we were given just enough points to build our player within context of Caps but still distribute the points freely: you would see more people ignoring the 99 potential in favor of simply building the player in their vision.

^^True shooters would build "their type" of shooter; All Around players differ and everyone has a different vision of all around talent. Some guys legit want to be known for energy and should be able to Excell with stamina at an elite level more so than those who ignore the benefits of stamina. If all you're focusing on is spot shooting and rolling of screens for catch and shoot then perhaps you can ignore the elite level of stamina but if you try to do too much: you should suffer if you disturb your stamina quota.

This boost system is very gimmicky and shallow in my opinion when you genuinely see it for what it truly advertises.

I will add, my favorite player in game in official rosters is Damian Lillard - Lillard is an 86? I cannot contextually build Lillard because the bucket system is like a hand holding system for ART and the person holding my hand has already cast the majority of the vision for my art piece.

2k is being too controlling with their power to control how we be able to build our players. They gave me the clay and I should be able to more freely play with my clay based on their stipulation but a whole bucket of multiple attributes all going into one core group - is that really doing justice for creativity purposes and individualism?

We already have the same career nickname and family upbringing... 😔 on top of that our game parents decide that if we boost scoring we should boost everything under scoring. If we boost defense : we must raise every defensive attribute together.

It's 2k who is creating this monster with their overzealous bucket system - it's 2k who harvested this crop of group assets that's restricts the user from individually raising attributes that would best suit him and cut the excess off.

I see and relate to both sides of the argument. People however, are romanticizing about 2K15. Sure, every once in a while you'd get a different game than normal but a lot of the time I remember a LOT of just shooting 3's and feeling like you could nothing to stop that because everyone would just rain them in over and over.

I remember being unable to do anything in the post (it's not TOO much better this year but there's better tools to make people pay for doubling). The games were basically just run around shooting 3's all day whether it was in the Park OR the Rec center.

What people don't get (and some will never because they're offline players, which I understand) is that this year, the Park is still a bit cheesy but Pro-Am mode is actually a breath of fresh air and games do not play the same there. If you try and cheese 3's against good defense? You're paying for it unless you're really skilled. Instead of getting ready for a bunch of big men dribbling and continually getting to their cheese spots to abuse the same tired move over and over, people actually have to think and be creative.

Is the system perfect? I wouldn't say so but last year was an atrocity online after a while and this year has fixed that quite a bit. For offline players, I feel for you feeling boxed in but as a Center, I was averaging 26 points and 15 rebounds...with only 80 rebounding including rebounding well against the NBA's best. It's been the case with a lot of 2K's where my guy will be an 80 some rated player and be able to dominate whether I'm a PG, SF or C. I haven't tried SF this year but I highly doubt that if I really wanted to, I'd be unable to dominate if I tried.
