... When that happens I'll usually go to my league which can also be great then I'll have a game where seemingly the things I love break. Freelance offense is awesome but it's broken for me more than it works. Too often the motions take way too long to initiate if they do at all. The one I love the most is when the CPU diagram shows a teammate is going to cut but instead he runs back and forth like he's humping a doorknob while the shot clock runs out.
When that happens I usually then play mycareer which can be fun and then the cutscenes between games happen. I honestly love the idea of stories in sports games but the story in this game is just bad. Horrible to be honest. Like real people would never act that way. And man when they show your dude talking in those clips between the first and second quarter I cringe. Its just so badly acted.
Even after all that though I keep coming back because when it is good it's fantastic I just wish it was more consistent.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Free Lance will initiate faster if you begin with a pass - it will be slow to initiate if you wait for the ai to begin on its own. This is acknowledged on Da_Czar's twitch.
2. MyCareer will lose those cut-scenes in your second year in the league. Spike Lee's story ends and you basically play a 2K14 type of MC after that with off-day activities such as practices and endorsements.

Didn't Czar mention there would be an update to ACE at the start of the season?

I definitely see changes in coverage and the way teams play the pick and roll against a hot player....but I don't see a lot of double teams...especially in the post....

HOU switched the pressure up on me after a hot start by KD- you could also argue the effectiveness of some of the adjustments, but I do see them..

Yeah there are some slight adjustments in pressure but that's about it. If they switch assignments it's usually bc of a sub. U have to pay attention to that to. I haven't tested the pick and roll to much yet. I been consumed with this post play issue. It's not hard to get the points I been getting. Get to the post backdown, watch the defense part like the Red Sea and go To town. They look like they might help but then they back off, and that's only in a blue moon. So it seems like it's a code that stopping them. So that's why I keep trying to get it heard, hoping a dev might see it and really look at it. 106 PTs with one player and never getting a double c'mon now they have to see there's a issue.

I know we talked before but I could not find the posts in my history. Anyways, with regards to ACE, are you playing with play-calling enabled and are you choosing points of emphasis?

My understanding is that enabling these will neuter the ACE systems on offense and defense respectively.

I see more ACE activity than you seem to see. When I start using Kobe too much, I have the ai switch assignments on him... usually the PF in the computer's rotation but sometimes the center. I see the help rotating on the baseboard and in the half-court sets.

Where I agree there needs some refinement is on fastbreak coverage, especially early and on quick inbound plays. The first issue (fastbreaks) is something of a legacy issue and this year it is exposed more because of the improved offensive fast break abilities.

The second issue (inbound fast plays) I wonder if it was because the defensive team (ScottOG's) didn't have time to adjust things... If I remember correctly, Da_Czar said he put some specialty plays in last moment and it seems to me these are the ones being exploited.

Edit: As far as changes in sets and such, we can't expect these changes until the season really begins. Heck, teams like the Lakers still have 3 or 4 roster spots in question and pre-season was really used to test the options available... that and 2K's guys are going to need a bit of time to break down the actual plays used.

My problem with ace is how they play me. Not how I defend them. An all defaults all star an ss sim. With help d d aware and consistency maxed is how it's set now. But I've played with those at default to.

I grinded out the last 3 games and made it to year two in my career. It does seem a lot better. That whole spike Lee movie thing was ridiculous . I don't want to be a jerk because I'm sure a lot of time and effort went into it but it was just really bad. The actual part of playing a basketball game was so detached from mattering that I just don't get the point. There was nothing my career about it. I made no decisions and it didn't tell me anything about my first year. Heck I didn't even know if we won a championship or anything. All it was in the end was an attempt at some heart felt story that to me anyways didn't work at all. I hated Vic I hated my sister I hated my girlfriend my agent my coach. I'm still in shock I think cause this whole thing really didn't make sense lol.

Yeah man there's so many glaring issues with this game. Idk how people keep denying it. Ace is a joke and it was suppose to be such a big deal. Yes they change pressure on shooters and have Kawai and Klay guard every pg but what else does it do? Where's the nba rotations that was promised. I jus don't get how people aren't more upset about these things and the things you pointed out? It's suppose to be a sim game correct?

The game is definitely broken as it is in its current state. Guys thinking it's not are fooling themselves. There's no way 95% of the players in the NBA are great shot blockers. There's no way open shooters will act dumb and stand literally 10 ft behind the 3 point line. Ball tracking by players with mediocre offensive awareness is insane. Shot grading system is not working correctly. Yet ppl act like these things are fine. It's either two things:

There's no way open shooters will act dumb and stand literally 10 ft behind the 3 point line. Ball tracking by players with mediocre offensive awareness is insane. I used to feel like my actual skill level in 2K mattered. Now it feels like more luck of the draw, like there is coding in the game that keeps me from "doing too much." Open shots miss too often, this whole ball going off of people's legs happens way too many times and the cpu isn't punished nearly as much as I am.

got that right about the CPU not being punished as much as the user. They get away with to much that the user can't do. Most of their shots are unrealistic contested 2 to 3ft jump shots in the paint. They don't work for their shots but cheese for them. It's like one moment u see them running a play and stop it halfway through and just try to iso their way into the paint or throw some pass into the paint that would had been intercepted if it was u doing it. I hate how the AI teammates don't try to deflect passes like that but the CPU does it all the time to you

Exactly and kissing up is not my thing. We were promised a game that adapts to what we do and it simply does not. Yes I took it to the extreme by scoring 106 with Kobe but letting me do that is certainly not adapting. And it's very disappointing. OG told me on twitter to give him evidence and I did. I even gave him a video of the non double team. Haven't heard from him since. Yes 2k looks great and has great animations and some gimmick pressure adjustments but that's about it. When people come on here and praise the game, I think they are going by looks. Certainly not sim basketball and certainly not what u will see in the nba. Especially on the defensive side.

Is it possible people praise the game because they actually like it?

I can only speak for myself but it is the best NBA sim I have played and I have played almost all of them. Trust me if ISIS came out with a better game tomorrow I'd buy it.

Are there a hundred things I would like to see refined and improved? Of course. But I deal in reality. The products are made. There are more previews, reviews, and forums available to make an informed decision before purchasing. If there is a better game out there why do you continue to play this one?

I love it. I only play my career...but not having all these issues. I'm in 3rd season. The way your player reacts is different. ..no doubt. ..but after I took time to learn how to use dribble moves and come out of them ...not having any issues. I run plays and pick and rolls and my players make some amazing plays. There is really alot of emphasis on getting yourself and offense in rythmn. Hate to hear guys not enjoying cause I hit the switch immediately after work everyday

The CPU spurs don't even run the swing much and the reason for that is the guards bring the ball up the center of the court which is not a initiation point. .

I have been a Spurs fan for about 30 years and I only ever play with them.

I think they have the default offense wrong for them because they won't run Swing unless I manually change it from "Default" to "Swing" at the beginning of every game.

I wish I could save that change so I didn't have to do it every game....

I hear you and you have made the issues clear. But at this point the devs either can or cannot fix the problems. And you as the user can choose to abuse the issue or not.

People praise 2k because for the most part when they know there's an issue they try to fix it. I believe most of us are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
