      • Fix transition defense (especially the zone issue)
      • Tweak motion sticking with player (where motion is continued even after letting go of controls. I think this is to slow you down but the nerfs to everyone's speed and acceleration in Sim already does this)
      • Fix "free" CPU baskets (where your teammates, even those with high defensive IQ simply leave a CPU player wide open for mid or three for no reason)
      • Tweak teammates assisting on defense. (currently teammates will collapse way too early only on players you're defending when they set a screen.)
      • Slightly nerf the mid range contested shot makes for both the user and the CPU.

With those issues addressed, it will lessen frustration. I am loving how the CPU actually misses open shots, how end scores are fairly realistic and dunks are few and far between for guards (unless on wide open fast breaks). The aforementioned is pretty easy to tweak and would make the mode extremely enjoyable for those of use who want that realistic experience. Right now, it's a good mix of difficulty and realism with good play resulting in well over 500 ball but some losses out of your control just like real life. So you are rewarded, but not too much where it feels like you've "beaten" the game.
How could you list all that and then say it's near perfect? They released a broken game. All those need to be fixed ASAP because the defense in the game is truly unplayable. On All-Star my guys simply won't even move to cover a player slashing through the lane. It's a joke.

with all this garbage going on AND the fact that you're using the knicks, I'm surprised you even still have the motivation to keep getting onto online mode. I tried using the knicks against my friend's lakers one match and couldnt even.

If you want to beat the computer you have to cheese, least on hall of fame.

When playing against people you have to play the game like its a role playing game. Watch for little animations, expect missed shots and play it "safe." Take advantage of what you can in the game to score points. Defense is broken and playing "real" basketball offensively will leave you ready to throw your controller.

Playing it safe is 100% true and even that doesn't necessarily guarantee a victory. In order for me to beat certain teams, I have to be extremely efficient and slow the game down. But even after hitting a foul shot, I have to deal with the transition issues and fullcourt bomb passes. I had a game earlier against the Rockets where all my opponent did was bomb pass and look to dunk after any of my possessions. In the rare chance that I was able to get back and force him to run an offense, all he did was pass and pump fake and look to dunk. I try my best to play on ball d but for the initial seconds after a ball is passed, I let the cpu defend because I often get blown by on the first step; I'm not afforded the same bumping animations as the cpu. This brings me to my next point: the cpu bites on pump fakes way too often, on any difficulty and in any mode. There's no reason why you should bite when you have your man draped on the 3 point line. On a close out? Fine. My opponent was mad at me and message me for running one play all game, a tactic I'm not proud of but all he had to do was make a defensive adjustment in the menus to stop it. I'd be a fool to stop if I know I'm guaranteed 2 points on every possession. I found it funny that someone who played so cheaply would actually criticize me for RUNNING PLAYS, when barely anyone who plays this game runs plays. He didn't call for any picks, he didn't run any plays, no cuts, offball screens, nothing that resembled authentic ball, but he took issue with me running plays. This is the monster that 2k created.

He's just mad because his cheesing isn't resulting in instant victory for him . Difference is he COULD stop your play but there's virtually nothing we can do to stop fullcourt bombers in transition unless we want to get bailout shooting fouls for attempting to play defense.

And I feel you on the waiting a second to switch to a new assignment after a pass.... I keep getting destroyed trying to switch immediately to a post assignment and being stuck in quicksand while they take their first step in for a dunk.

i'm new to the 2k series, is there any legit hope that 2K will actually patch the gameplay to fix aforementioned D issues? have they made significant changes like this in past 2K titles?

2k11 was probably the 2k with the most significant patches. They still left in major exploits like the hopstep, crazy leaner 3s, the euro step and the spin dunk but they did add more defensive tangiblity in the paint, changed jumpers and made some other tweaks to the gameplay. In other words, there is precedent for change. If they fix transition defense and make long bombs errant forcing the opponent to bring the ball up authentically, then the most glaring problem with the game is fixed. Hopefully they fix the baseline too; too many glitchy happenings on drives/ lead passes. Give the defense the same baseline court shield that prevents the offense from going out of bounds and I think a lot can be rectified here.
