Re: On-Ball defense tips.
I’m no sim baller by far, but I’m looking to improve my game all the time.
As a gamer I picked up my first copy of this series in the beginning of this year by mistake.
How was I to know that I would lost interest in all those other games I was so eager to play when I bought my PS4 just half a year before, after a long time of absence on the console gaming scene.
Got my pre-ordered copy of NBA2K16 the day I would play my last game of the MC season in 2K15 before entering into the playoffs. Came home from work, installed NBA2K16 and never looked back, LOL.
Threads like these are what made me come to the OS and many already made me better at my game as a SG. So yeah, besides for the rookies as me I do not have any tips other than the very basics: off ball, to stay between your man and the ball handler, on ball don’t stay too close to your man or he will run by you, but don’t give him too much space either or he takes the jump shot.
And to all of you please keep sharing your insights on what good D is all about. Thats’s what this forum is all about. Even DatGD12guage likes to, a bit angry I agree but never the less he took the time and the effort, thanks man, LOL.

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
I find if you are too block hungry, you play terrible defense, stay on your feet and only jump when they jump. Good things will happenComment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
What i saw in that video was terrible defense by the user. There is no way you should be sprinting out to guard Dwight at the 3pt line with your hands up...like seriously???
I know that you are upset that you didn't get any bump animation, but your bad habits on defense are being exposed now. Before the patch, bad defenders could get away with the bumping saving them but not anymore.
Now you REALLY have to know how to play smart on-ball defense. Get rid of those bad habits homie.Lineup:

Dwight was surprised as hell too. He just casually put the ball on the floor lol. Dwight was like why not.Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
I'm finding it very difficult to stop LeBron and even bigs like Tristan when facing up and isolated in this weekly challenge, they just blow right by me when giving them a bit of space holding L2 down and trying to cut off penetration with the left stick. It doesn't seem to be working for me.
OP when you say to feather L2 do you mean push the button down slightly but not all the way held down (notice this is a body up defense I believe if not fully held)? When does hold L2 + R2 if at all come in to play when trying to cutoff dribble penetration? Should your hands with the right stick up never be used unless they are already taking the shot?
Thanks for the thread and tipsComment

You mean in the mid post area? I find the most success using hands up....this will force guys like TT into bad shots.....
LBJ? Lol....it can work sometimes but I usually try to bring help overComment

I would suggest that you continue to give space as you said you have been to temp them into a jumper. Also, turn at an angle that funnels them towards help defense so instead of being straight up and having to guess left or right, you can try to influence an expected outcome.
Another option I would suggest is with L2 held, you tap, the right stick away from them immediately after their face-up move THEN trying to cut them off. This will cause your defender to jump backwards and give ground quickly to buy extra time to cut the person off. This is something I would suggest as a last ditch effort if you keep getting beat to the rim. Gives you the chance to at least stay in front of the opponent.
L2+R2 is the quick shuffle. since the speed is so quick it can shut people down, cover mistakes or create them. I try to use it sparingly, mostly when im tapping the right stick for a more dramatic shuffle to get be back into position. After that its back to lightly pressing L2, giving ground and cutting off with the a flick of the right stick.
And i only use the right stick on deadball or shooting situations.Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
i find these useful against cpu. note: i'm still playing without patch 3.
1. guarding perimeter players like kobe
- use the turbo if u lose the first step
- flick LS at an angle, not towards where u think the player is going
- must feather LT to stick to the player
- dun stay too far as he will pull up and splash
- RS away from the player when u see he's about to lay it in
cant defend 10 out of 10 but perhaps 8 ...
2. guarding backdown post player like towns
- LT to stick to the player
- RS towards the player to counter his back
- RS away (not towards) from the player when he's abt to make his move i.e. hook etc
- he will dribble around the post. depending on yor camera, rotate RS accordingly
- no need turbo
- dun jump
3. guarding post player like Lbj who can hit fadeaway
- RS towards him when he is abt to shoot
4. close out
- 2k once mentioned it affects the shooting % if u are in close proximity to the shooter
- RS away from the shooter
imagine if the guy is dirk instead of howard. wat would be yor defense tips? lets make the dialog useful and stop focusing on howard. defending a faceup centre like dirk is anoter challenge bcos yor bigs are slow ...
hope the above still apply after patch 3.

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
you posted a screen shot? R you forreal?! NO look at the video AGAIN! 0:01 - 0:03

Did you see the hitching in Dwights drive like something was holding him back. That was physics not being recognized bc there should have been bump contact or some sort of contact, instead there was a force field preventing that and dwights momentum NEVER STOPPED. Boy what is wrong "witcha"! You just never gonna get it huh.Comment

The bumping was not your problem it was YOU and your offense doing something wrong and you blamed the bump animation and now your ruining the games defense bc theres BUMPING in REAL LIFE when a guy is trying to lock you up. You all need to go play nba jam or revisit nba street man bc your making 2k get rid of defensive principles and physics making the game feel fake and unrealistic bc your offense is TTTRAAAASH.
So im telling you right now if I see any of you in a thread talking about this game being arcade "imma" roast you, if you trying to tell someone they need to lower the difficulty when it was YOU who should have done that instead of complaining about someone "bumping you on defense" imma ROAST you and if you cosign your buddy, im roasting you too.
YOU needed the tips instead of trying to turbo in the paint all the time is what this sounds like.Last edited by DatGD12guage; 11-19-2015, 05:11 AM.Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
Idk if it's been asked but when are u using the triggers on xb1? I hear some people say they never use lt and then I hear some say they always use both triggers. So what is the best technique? And if you have a vid showing that would be awesomeComment

On-Ball defense tips.
I use LT + RT plus the R Stick when I am anticipating what side they are going to.. It's an effective way to stonewall guys
Like with Carrol here I knew he was going to go baseline so I R Stick'd that way to stop him in his tracks...
