Personally I hate 2K defense last 5 years or so, every year offense is at least 20 % overpowered than defense, where it should be 50-50 situation. I was happiest long time ago with 2k7-2k8 defense, back then you had to work your a** of to score a basket and i don't mean on shooting aspect but on driving the lane in paint area. Recently i was really disappointed with defense 2K present us especially on 2k15 and 2k12, it felt like all you can do is set your man up down there raise your hands and expect that somehow opponent misses the layup or shot, pressing a block would automatically result in foul regardless of matchup or situation.

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
Even if you play perfect defense, the CPU's pass will just pass through your elbow or chest, and end up in the CPU player's hands anyway. Meh.Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
hmm ... are u referring to u going for steal and the ball went thru u and never end up having a steal? i'm playing myleague offline and me-triggered steal is very much solid, all the while. the responsiveness is so good that i often go for the gamble.Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
I play offline vs. CPU, and yeah, I'm referring to the bad collision detection that allows the ball to pass through my human-controlled player's body, and seemingly always leads to dunk or layup for the CPU. It seemed fine before patch #4.Comment

On-Ball defense tips.
There are some valid concerns about team defense at times but on ball is easily the strongest part of 2K16's defense....you have more than enough tools to defend one on one. It's at its best after patch 4 IMOComment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
Shot Contest on Always, defensive assist to 0 are important for me.
Sometimes you need to let go of Intense-D and hold turbo if someone is turboing down the baseline or parallel to the basket You aren't going to keep up with RWB shuffling your feet, and he WILL turn the corner if quickly if you aren't careful.
CUT OFF THE BASELINE by hedging. Force them to the MIDDLE where the angles are better and the bigs can react. The baseline is in general much easier to finish on than the middle, partially because you can use the backboard to arc shots higher by banking them in, and by protecting the ball with your body and out-of-bounds.
When someone is pumpfaking or faced up under the basket, DON'T PRESS ANYTHING (except steal if the defender is good at it). Intense-D, blocking, right-stick defense and turbo are basically foul buttons. You can try the late block but contesting the shot well without fouling is far more important.Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
CPU just scored on 16 out of 17 possessions during a stretch in my most current game. On most of those shots I had a hand in their face. This was on Pro...yes, PRO! What a ****ing joke. I fart in your general direction, 2K. Every CPU player defends like Pippen, shoots like Stephen Curry, rebounds like Rodman, and passes like Magic, regardless of real-life skills.Last edited by sportsgamer5761; 12-27-2015, 04:00 AM.Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
i have a question...
i play 100% on ball d but the offball d is so ******** that i often get scored on because of their mistakes
a big problem im having is the cpu helping off of shooters and big man sagging off stretch 4s even if set to deny
any way to fix this?Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
i dont think u can. u gotta mix it up to play some onball and offball depending on the pnr situations. i played offball so i can focus on adjusting to the 'over help' created by my cpu defenders.
playing offball is not that bad. sometimes, u can get steals especially those coming out if screensComment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
This. Shouldn't be happening on Pro.
As far as your AI teammates, you can't cover up 100% of the mistakes they make, but the individual coaching settings can help with things like leaving their man and over helping- I'd check out some of Phams vids . Setting your POE defensive pressure to conservative can help with some of the unnecessary dumb fouls they take as well....Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
2k16 probably has the hardest Pro setting ever all things considered...
But 90% shooting all on contested jumpers?
It's either an exaggeration or something else is going on..Comment

Re: On-Ball defense tips.
I play pure on-ball D. But getting sucked by the "Who to guard arrow" isn't helping. Makes rotating on D so difficult and puts the other team on an advantage. Also, why play on-ball D when off-ball gets advantages like this.
