      It's so interesting how every development team, no matter good they are, always have certain problem areas that they have such a difficult time getting right.

        per passing, i think its because they simply dont know how to program an intuitive passing system. i cant tell you how many times in 2k16 an open man was no longer open because of a lobbed pass or the "let me turn my body all the way around and whip it with my off hand" animation. certain types of passes should just be intuitive.


        if you've ever spent any time in shootaround(like most myteam guys have), you know the problem with passing is that its simply point a to point b with no regard for whats in b/w a to b.

          This might be one of the times I get to wholeheartedly agree with you. A lot of context doesn't make sense in some situations. Some animations trigger for no reason. If I drive and kick out of a shot, sometimes I want a dump pass to the center. Sometimes I get it, others I do an under the legs behind the head pass to a guy that's covered 20 feet away.

          It's nothing I lose sleep over, but sometimes it's the best option available and it fails for what feels like no reason.

            almost every one of my gripes on this forum are about their gameplay issues like this lol. a little inside info, i worked for 2K in 2009 and having been around this game for 8 hrs a day for 9 months and seeing some of the same issues, 6-7 years later, is a bit unnerving.




            i tweaked the passing options all year on 2k16. you can play with the passing default vs open man settings. open man felt like i still couldnt really control the outcome so i was stuck with default. I also think court spacing has a lot to do with some of these passing issues we have as well. still a ways to go.

              There's where our disconnect is. It makes sense now. As a consumer without inside connections I base my theories, gtipes, and praise off what I see. I also base it off the development cycle, and the little programming knowledge I have. You base it off stuff you've been around for a long while. I manage a bar, so in other bars I'm very similar("Wow, they're doing THAT?", "Do these guys even get the concept of...."). I'm still very analytical and forgiving, but I do the same thing.

                lol yeah its a bit different when you see under the hood i guess. But a lot of these issues that i bring up are legit glaring to me as well. i try to articulate them here but OS has a very particular culture...to put it nicely.

                  I'll say it for you. There's a lot of diehard 2k fans, and there's a lot of blind faith. I know what *I* come off as, but in reality we both want the same thing: An awesome basketball game. My goals, likes, and wants don't line up with yours, or a lot of guys, but I get it.

                  There's things I brush aside because to me, It's minute. To another guy it's crazy huge. I don't give a damn about shoe authenticity. Some guys will cancel a pre order over it. I care tremendously about a balancedgame for park and pro am. Some people think the current incarnation is fine but that want X.

                  That's why I can go into the park thread and rationalize the gameplay changes vs. Cosmetics. Man, wish you would've said that sooner, LOL

                    LOL bro i was TRYING to say a lot of things earlier on. I got ransacked by the blue crew and their homies hahaha. its funny cus the 2K diehards can be just as ridiculous as the trolls or guys that over-complain and they dont see it. its fine i guess. ultimately(like you very well stated) we all want the same thing. less exploits, more intuitive gameplay, and for it to *truly* be sim. not to much to ask, is it? haha

                        Wouldn't that depend on the type of icon pass? If its a a mediocre passer, who is defended and you are passing from the deep wing to the opposite corner while leading the player back to the three point line or to the corner, what pass could you do but an overhead?

                          Hey Mike I agree man those overheads just need to be scrapped the chest passes comes to mind when thinking of the most fluid looking animations if not THE most fluid looking pass animation in terms of game flow maybe trigger those more to offset the overhead passes.

                            Gamebreaker.. for me... to see passing regress from 16 which inn 16 was already a regression from 15 😒

                            I haven't preordered and am quite certain it'll remain this way until this is addressed or I'll simply sit 17 out. Passing is too critical and an essential part of game flow for its hindrances to be accommodated with aloofness.

                              I'm throwing in my two cents. The lofty passes are really problematic with icon passing. I agree that the lofty/overhead passes are commonly used when feeding the posting.

                              Can I make a suggestion? Can when we remove LS as lead pass option? With the advancements in the AI movement and logic, it feels and seems that the AI players naturally move to their positions or cut when appropriate. Plus, the play calling and freelance offense is so freaking deep, the need to "manually" move AI teammates is really not necessary, and I believe that the LS brings an unintended level of frustration.

                                Overhead passing should be only for lob pass in the post from guards, and from PF and C passing from the top of the key (usually when the ball is quickly changing side to punish rotations) that have defenders close to them. Also it's very rare to see it IRL after a driblling or while moving.,it's not functional. Since it's basically used to prevent interception from close defender as there's no need to lower the ball to do it, it should be performed only by player that didn't take dribbles while holding the ball.

                                Of course there could be more situation in real life, but since seems so hard to be contextualized, is far better to limit it to very specific situations.
