Re: NBA 2K17 Prelude Feedback Thread

After taking a needed breather, I jumped into MyCareer...without all the random interruptions I was able to establish a flow and get a hang of the dribbling.

Its going to take some labbing but i can already tell I'm going to love the feel of it.You can really chain together some nice things. I cant wait to get my hands on an elite ballhandler..

Love the game so far. Obviously there have been issues with facescanning and in some accounts it doesn't let me play my career. But the ones I played I really enjoyed. 2ku is awesome. I love that the pop-ups start to adjust as you play. So it doesn't pause the game. I love the free throw follow through animation when you get a good timing. I really love the new net sounds. I love to hear that swoosh. Seen some tip ins that look amazing. The block in one of the pop ups looks amazing. Game play is very smooth it makes you want to play more. The different player builds Is pretty cool. I like that if you pass someone or someone passes you - you are largely doomed as far as I've seen. Recovering is much slower from what I've seen. Which makes defense very important unlike last year where with anyone you could recover and block shots easily from behind. Will update as I keep playing.

That awkward moment when you're Australian but represent team USA and play against your home country..

This year I chose my player as a rim protecting center. One thing that needs to be addressed (that has been lingering from past 2K titles) is the animation suction around the paint. So many times on offense, I'm trying to get out of the key so that I don't get called for a violation but my player gets caught in the animation 'bump' that I cannot get out of. On defense however, the suction isn't merely as powerful and I can move around much more freely.

Something I haven't seen mentioned in gameplay talks yet: Turning the corner.

I noticed so far after throwing a few bucks in to max out my Slasher playmaking, and I noticed it in 2KU as well. If you sweep wide to beat your man, the analog is sensitive enough to let you turn the corner around him to the rim. There's countless times going as far back as I can remember in 2k, where something as simple as running a tight half circle wouldn't work. You'd do it, but the turning was not nearly tight enough. The result is your man catching you on defense because you couldn't angle your curving drive to the rim quick enough or sharp enough.

The angles you can take are crazy in here, I can't wait to see the Havoc I can cause in park mode with little nuances like this.

The 2KU is great but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the same legacy issues in it.

CPU speed still an issue: players are running extremely fast to get back on defense.

CPU players are instantly sprinting before the user accelerates and bigmen sprinting past much faster players.

I also see the CPU cheese that makes the user crossover to slow you down to allow the CPU defender to catch up to play defense.

Am I the only one getting caught up on people trying to get around them a lot more than 16? I feel like if I run into someone and don't move the stick I keep running into them forever.

I know this is a skill thing and you can fix it by going around them but I feel like there's not really bump animations in these situations, your guy is full sprinting into a human wall and it's tougher to get past them. I could be wrong though I only played for 4 hours the other day.

You are not wrong, I've seen it happen a few times where I slow down or get caught into a bumping animation when nobody is in front of me. I think it's a CPU cheese because it happens to let the CPU caught up, slow you down, then put you into a animation.

Still can't blow by a defender when attacking their lead foot. In basketball when you attack their foot they have to open up and slide to stay in front of you. In 2K there's this force field that you hit while the defender just stands there and doesn't move then you lose the ball.

Only to get open and get to the rim is spam crossovers and size ups or pass the ball around and get a backdoor cut. Same issues as 2K16.

But I do think its a slight upgrade in terms of mechanics. Shooting with the RS is the one thing killing me, timing the lay ups in traffic and staring at the shot meter. But Ill adjust eventually, might take a month.

It was an automatic preorder going into September, but between the R2 Turbo glitch and what I'm seeing from teammate AI and the floaty passing, I'm in "wait and see" mode. My gut reaction to the Prelude is "I don't want to play anymore of this video game."

That said, this is not the full version of the game, it is not patched and these aren't even NBA players(including Prez) so a lot of the animations and abilities don't reflect the final game. So I'll wait and see. If the Prelude is reflective of what the final game feels like, I will either skip it, which would be a first, or I'll only get it so I can discuss what I think needs improvement. Not sure about that, because it either requires buying a controller specifically for 2k or learning how to use Icon passing/Turbo in reverse. With my schedule and the prospect of using that time for Street Fighter, Overwatch and Mafia III, I could see for the first time in my life skipping 2k.
I'm glad to say I haven't got Prelude now..... more intrigued in what you say about it not being the full game etc. but now I think safe to just wait.

                          Very funny!

But believe me, when you get my age (49) and time goes by way too fast, you'll wish you could experience some of those long weeks!

Yeah it's too quick right now I've tweeted Beluba about it. Barely gives you time to cross someone over online while he's on pause. After a while you are able to identify what tips he's reading and for how long he will not be able to move his player. Just the mindgames that comes with it while playing a game online. Brillant feature.

I've noticed this as well. Hopefully it will be fixed in a patch.

Yup, unfortunately this seems to be an issue again.

If you're a PG, you shouldn't have to pull off multiple dribble moves to blow by a slower, bigger guys.

That force field/bump thing the defense does is just a way to make the defense seem like they're better. But it's a cheap way of doing it.
