Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Ugh...
I was so hopeful. Ready for a revival of MyLeague in this game with the updated non garbage slider gameplay. Absolutely the worst two games I've ever played. I don't care what difficulty you're on, there is no world where a team with Nikola Jokic, Clint Capela, and Kyle O'Quinn should be giving up 20 offensive rebounds through 3 quarters, most of them to ALEX LEN. The AI is just so dang broken. Jokic literally stands around and watches balls fly right past his hands. He even turns around and runs the other way when the ball is passed to the paint. Whatever 2K did to the game (I saw it, it was an update I got a few days ago on PC), undo it. Undo it now. This is without a doubt the most broken and trash game I've ever played.
You guys are totally right too, the fastbreak is completely trashed. I think that's what's the most frustrating. You know what was fun last year? Getting a block and having your guards run up the court. I remember throwing one to the PG, having him fire to the SG, and him throwing a bounce pass to the slashing SF for the dunk. You could move the ball up the court and have a fastbreak without the ball even touching the ground. Easily the most satisfying thing.
But not this year. This year, you can't have a fastbreak because there's always someone standing in your way under the hoop and/or none of your guards ever beat their guards down the court. Plus, no guard ever runs the floor and fills the lanes. Huh, I just realized, I have never seen a guard fill the lanes in this years game. How about that.
And about a third of the problem is that I have yet to pass to a guy and have it hit him in stride. He ALWAYS has to pause to catch it.
I just don't know what to say anymore. I've given this game every single chance I can muster. I've worked with it, defended it, been patient with it, but we're a month in here folks, and it's just about worn me out. There is absolutely no aspect where it is superior to 2k16. The crappy optimization even makes it graphically inferior to 2k16 because I can't run any settings close to max.
Sorry 2k team, but this is your worst effort of all time (and I've played games all the way back past your ESPN Basketball game with AI on the cover)."The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws."

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
An improvement needed is how often ball recievers need to slow down to catch the ball. I find breaks perfectly fine if you get the ball to a player already moving.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Just had a fantastic couple of games last night. CPU teams that should play slow, did play slow.
FYI: This is the time of the game (about 1 month in) when the negativity on OS is at a critical mass. Ignore these people. The game has shortcomings, but it's not "broken", and is much better thn any preceding 2K.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
They release a whole segment of info around 'Authentic Sounds' which included crowds, net/rim sounds, bounce of the ball etc. Yet 4 patches later, and I am to hear ANY of this, apart from the different buzzer beaters. I have my sound effect setting at 100, and the net/rim sounds are so faint you can barely hear them. Talk about false advertising and false hope. If they dont fix this in the next patch, I am done with 2K.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Gonna drop this here where I know it will get in the list of what 2K devs see.
These are legacy issues, and I know Czar says transition coding is more complicated than most people realize, but it is what it is.
I also want to quote some stuff I put in another thread to go with this:
This example is against the CPU on AS with the user on offense, but I could just as easily break down similar issues with user on defense. A lot of times that defender animation where a guy pauses to look for a guy to guard ends up taking a guy right out of the flow of a play. I actually think that's what takes my PG in this video out of the play, even though he is on offense and shouldn't be looking to guard anyone. That would make it a bug in this instance.

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Heh. You're right that it was a dumb shot to take. It should not have gone in. With the way AI works this year, transition shots are better found on the perimeter, and I should have kicked out to KP.
Even with the bad shot selection, the transition issues around player movement and AI still stand,Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Figured I would give my career another try. Can't do it. Aside from the fact that starting as a 55 overall top 5 pick is just idiotic, the lack of ability to skip cutscenes is a baffling design choice.
They added a lot of cool things, but they ****ed up the most basic aspects of the mode.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
The game is terrible in it's current state. It's just not a very hoops experience. You simply can't try to please 2 different audiences (Sim and Casual). It just doesn't work. In the end we all just end up getting fudged over. We have this weird Frankenstein creation of a game that has no idea of it's identity. All of these nice animations that take the control right out of your hand.
Thousands of screens but not one trace of a moving screen call, Realistic foot planting but sliding the other 70 percent of the time, Game forcing certain outcomes (scripting) for the sake of a challenge and artificially setting the stage for close type games (Yeah 2K we're not stupid, we know what you're doing). Casual hoops fans probably won't notice that stuff or even care, But for the sim guys out there you're screwed. 2K Is Bringing in so much revenue from VC which is driven by casual modes like my park and my career (though do i wish my career was more of a sim than a NBA parody).
All in all NBA 2K17 is just not a very good basketball game, and is definitely not a true simulation. A patch is not going to fix this game. It's over people. What we are playing now is pretty much is for the year.Comment

Also, speaking of, here's something. I was under the "impression" () that the freelance offense would trigger certain cuts/movements and I'd be able to see them in playvision. I cannot. I'm also not certain that all of the motions work. I pass to the forwards in the horns set with motion cuts/scoring actions active, and nobody moves. I'm playing offline on the PC if it matters.

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
This is a serious post and I'm not trying to rag on the game because I'm really trying to figure it out and I do occasionally have super awesome games. Any insight here would be good.
So I'm trying to get sliders that work. It's super obvious that the game doesn't just play one way and sliders across the board will not make the game always play the same. My confusion is to what kind of momentum or logic is behind how the CPU plays? It's so super random and the swings are huge. It's not based on wins in a row as in a team is hot because I just played Utah and they had lost 3 in a row I had won 2 and they were literally impossible to beat. I restarted the game a bunch of times out of frustration and every time they were shooting mid 60% and I was at 30%. Every game for at least 7 tries. Then I tweaked the sliders a bit and got a real close game that was fun but I lost which was OK because it was fair. Next game I play Cleveland who's on a five game win streak and I win by 38 and I shoot 72%. Next game I blow out another good team than the next one I can't do anything again against a crappy expansion team.
I would just like to have some sliders so that I can have good games with realistic shooting percentages but the swings from 30% to shooting %70 are massive and don't make sense. Is it maybe player confidence or team chemistry?2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Must admit, I am very disappointed in '17. The game just feels off. The passing is so arcadey. The shooting is just overpowered. Sounds on the court are just aweful. I literally have spent hours adjusting sliders, just to get the speed and movement accurate. I still cannot. I change shooting attributes, it throws off something else off.
15 and 16 weren't perfect games, but in comparison to '17 they were phenomenal. I really wanted to like 17 and gave it a fair try. Been playing since release but it's time to put it away or sell it. I seriously wonder how this game was released this way. Patches are not going to help the core gameplay.
IMO this is the worst 2K basketball game I've played in the post 2K10 era.
**EDIT**
I felt the need to edit that this is my opinion on strictly the offline game. 2K does have options on this game out the wazoo, but it comes down to gameplay for me and that fails miserably this year.Last edited by Rubio809; 10-21-2016, 10:33 AM.PS5Comment
