Well yes, I know the control in theory. Triangle is rebound, square is for putback. I have great rebounding in general. I got lots of 10+ REB games in the park last year and this year I'm averaging over 18 REB/game in career. Just can't ever get a putback...like ever lol

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Can someone explain the protected pick trades to me, please? What is better for me to receive, such as a top 3 protected pick, does this mean I keep it if its in the top 3, OR outside the top 3?
And what happens with the receive best/worst picks?Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
I hope this is the right thread for my question. Since I can't open a new thread I'll ask here.
In NBA 2k16 you were able to set a gameplan for your team in terms of offensive rebounding, defensive rebounding, running the fast break and so on. I can not seem to find that anymore. Is it still available? If not is there a possibility to gameplan those details any other way?
I'm also a bit confused by the lack of a sim slider. Now I have read that 2k decided to forego that. I'd very much like to have my old gameplay experience back in terms of it feeling less like an Allstar Weekend. Would anybody be able to provide me with the slider sets for Allstar and Superstar Sim from 2k16 for user and cpu? I'd really appreciate that as I don't have enough space on my hard drive to have both games installed at the same time.
I'm also looking for a well balanced playbook. I favour pick and rolls and screen action along with a good amount of pick and pops and corner 3's or at least some sets that alow for a good high percentage 3 point shot. I'm not much for isolation, in fact I don't want any isolation sets whatsoever (which is fine since I know I can simply change it in the player assignement menu). I ran best last year with the Milwaukee Bucks Pick and Roll heavy playbook and sometimes with the Mavs. I do like to push the ball as well and generally play more gritty defense. I don't mind mixing and matching playbooks but if someone who has a better grasp of playbooks could maybe give me some advice I would be grateful.
Thank you.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Receiving a top 3 protected pick would mean that you would receive the pick if it lands outside of the top 3 (so 4-30). If it lands in the top 3, then the team trading the original pick, would retain its rights, and you would receive their 1st round pick in the following years draft, without any protection. The protection is for the team trading away the pick, not the team receiving it.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Anyone know if there is a way to turn off the cutscenes? I feel like I spend half the game hitting buttons to get to gameplay. The timeout scene that you watch the players slowly walk to the bench is frustrating. Hopefully I am just missing a setting to turn them off.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
1) Yes, you can set your "POE" for rebounding and pace. It's a pain in the ***, but you can use the R1 / RB then a little screen will pop up on the right. You should see the options for rebounding. You then use the right stick to select your preferred option. However, right now, it appears that the game auto changes your selection whether or not you have ACE (Adaptive Coaching Engine) on or not. After you select your option the menu will close. If you want to select your pace you have to option it up AGAIN then hit RB / R1 a second time then you'll be able to chose your pace. Use the right stick to select your option, and the menu will close..
You can also set the offensive focus using the same menu but you have to press RB / R1 three times to get there. But you can't do these things in one go since the menu closes as soon as you select one. So adjusting these things on the fly means you'll likely burn a possession.
2) The idea of sim, arcade, etc. has gone the way of the dodo. Instead 2K is now using a single slider set that is adjusted according to difficulty. Pro and Allstar gets boosts to the User stats while Superstar and Hall of Fame gives boost to the CPU's stats. However, what translates to whether or not you get a "Sim" experience is certain sliders such as:
Defensive / Offensive Consistency
At superstar it's so high that I had Marc Gasol put up 31 on me in a 12 minute game. He was hitting everything. It's frustrating, but makes great players feel like great players. Though he shot 73% from the field for the game, and made a gaggle of contested shots.
Defense / Offensive Awareness
Determines how smart the CPU (on both sides) plays. At superstar it's so high it's like the other team has ESP, or something. It's a real challenge, and bad play is severely punished. Do not try to make bad passes into the post like in 2K16 because you will be turned into Bar Be Que Chicken, Ernie.
What I've seen suggested for sliders is to match them up however you like for the CPU / User (say put 50 for all stats) then adjust the two sliders above until you get the game you want. But there are some slider bros who are working on making the game more sim like, and those should release soon.
3) Can't help on playbooks since I always create my own based on my team's composition in MyLeague.Comment

I have them off but still see the time out cut scenes, so you may be stuck with those.Shout out to The Watcher! Where you at bruh?Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Can someone help me with defensive settings? Like some sort of tutorial on what the Points of Emphasis in the TO menu really mean. I understand the formations for defense and offense but the adjustments I'm having a little bit of a hard time understanding.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Does anybody know how the team finances in myGM work??
I started a test run with the san diego surf and the mavericks.
I always have a negative profit, even with adjusted prices, high fan interest and near 100% attendance.
E.g. with the mavs:
- I have 13m of free cap space
- I have >6 m in staff budget
Yet, I loose about 1m per away game. My player payroll is nearly twice my gate income.
Also, team and arena operations are eating up all other revenues.
I actually stayed below my maximum budget on all categories... but stilm the media asked if it was my fault to loose money all season long.
How is this supposed to work? Did I miss something??
Thank you for any help here!

Absolutely kills my enjoyment when the CPU has a clear advantage in this area. This plagued 2K16 for me.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
How do I disable that new Dynamic Rule Change feature? In MyGM/MyLeague there are team meetings that decide on changes like reducing the shot clock or getting rid of goaltending etc... I just want to disable this feature in MyGM but I don't know how.
Step by step directions would be much appreciated.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
I've only seen it a handful of times with teams that have REALLY fast guards. If you're playing a halfcourt set it shouldn't be happening that often.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
What I've had to learn to do is as soon as I make a basket. I immediately switch to my PG using the LB(XB1).
Problem seems to be that depending on the camera angle you use(I use Beluba or broadcast) you can't see the C running up the court to get in the right positions. Switching to the PG alleviates this problem just a tad. I still get caught off guard every so often. This is the only type of CPU cheese I see. They seem to push the ball so fast that if anyone is out of positions its a wide open J or layup.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
