Guys do yourself a favor and watch Sam's video about Hedge defense. He does a good job explaining how to tailor it to each type of player.

The help defense didn't make sense out of the box. It is not like the Dev's gave us a full glossary or blog on what each setting is supposed to do.

I mean they even added more options this year and didn't even explain what they were supposed to do. Now if the defense behaved more of what we expected out of the NBA basketball out of auto then there would have been minimal complaints.

Yes. This. There are SOOOO many options in defensive settings and its great that guys like Sam make these videos - with evidence of what certain things actually to in NBA 2K. Otherwise we've just been left to set them and try to notice the difference.

Something so deep should be broken down/explained IMO. 2KU but for the deeper stuff.

Anyone explain to me the difference between deny, tight and smother? From an "english language" standpoint, they seem as though they'd all do the same (or similar) things.....

The word broke is a crutch around here. Now saying "I don't know how" is more appropriate than just automatically saying everything is broke.

"Broke" just means the feature, control mechanism or whatever is not working with the design intent of the game the way the Dev's designed it. In this case you can "fix" it from a user side but I don't think you can fix it for the CPU AI side. I am not sure you can exploit it against the CPU but it looks like it happens. I am not sure what level Sam Pham was playing on against the CPU. I didn't find the CPU blowing all these assignments on Superstar and HOF in play now games. Could be me not noticing it or my style of play.

HOF against the CPU play now is about 9 to 1 Sim to cheese ratio lol. This ratio has never been this high in a 2K game on this level before as far as I can remember.

Edit* There have been broken game play mechanisms in 2K games before that you could not fix or didn't get patched.

Edit* Myplayer may be in worse shape than play now games since the offense and defense is controlled by ACE or auto these are indeed broke with no option to fix probably a patch or behind the scene settings change.

Offline player here. I've gotten pretty effective at guarding P&Rs but now it seems my big men are always out of position to get defensive rebounds. I have a season going with the Cavs....you'd think LeBron, Love, and TT is a good front line to have rebounding wise but I've been killed my last 4 games on the boards. Every opposing front line looks like an All-Star simply because they killing me with offensive putbacks once I get a good perimeter stop. Any advice on fixing this? Maybe playing opposing big men very tight off the ball???

Turn ACE Off. As soon as I did, my teams playbook just opened up. They started to call more than the same damn play.

As for defense, I did like same mentioned. I set help to all and switch to all. I also set off ball and on ball d to tight. I go over all screens and I use soft hedge only. So far my experience has improved tenfold. It definitely is the settings. The Auto setting more than likely.

The rotations are light years better with these settings. One issue I still see is the Center allowing their guy to get open under the basket for no reason. This was an issue in 2K16 as well. Seems to be a hardcoded issue that cannot be fixed on our end.

Sampham- Question for you... Should we only set the opposing team Center to (Pre-Rotate- Yes / Screen Help Rules- Auto).... Or should we include the PF with these settings as well? The reason I ask is some team will use their PF at Center from time to time.

Thanks Sam Pham for the help. I still have the same issue with players allowing their assignments to backdoor them with reckless abandon as the opposing player brings the ball upcourt. This is epsically pronounced when the player is attempting to inbound the ball near half court and turboing the ball up. This is super furstrating epsically when that's the opponents whole content of an offense. Anyone found a remedy besides manually sprinting you center upcourt to contain it?

after testing again and again the settings online, to be honest I really solve one issue, BUT, it just creates another.

PG-to SF not rotating at all, could mean that a player that will play and pick and roll and get to the rim all time will bash you, as they will pass to the other open big for ever.

Switching all guards help minimizing the impact of this whole mess though. I will keep only this option available.

It is evident though that defensive rotations are bad. Some alternations in the game are not going to fix it (especially when most of the alternations, lead to very limited rotations.

I hope in the patch most of these issues are fixed.
