Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4
Bird and Shaq both hit me up wanting to schedule events at the same time on the same day.. I accepted both, and now both are options on the calendar. Maybe they fixed that with the new patch since they're actually showing on the calendar now?"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that's why it's called the present!"Comment

Ya I'm plenty old and I'm referring more so to products in general (I played Live back then). I just don't recall my games having as many or crippling issues like this back on Cbox, PlayStation, dreamcast, Nintendo and so on and certainly not outside of video games

With any tech (video games/consoles/phones/computers/software) there is a risk that there will be issue at launch. Some of those issues dont affect you so you dont notice (Ex. I could give a **** about MyPark so if there is a major bug in that mode, I dont know or care about it). Some of those issues will affect you.
The beauty of the present is that now game companies can fix those issues. They shouldnt be shamed for fixing issues with a game and continuing to support a game after release.Comment

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4
Don't understand complaining about the patches, are you happy with the game, if not, then shut the hell up.
And about games not being complete at the release date, that's a whole another story which shouldn't take place here, let's keep it about this exact patch news.
Fully agreed and wasn't intending to derail as I am appeased by the patches and thankful. I just get frustrated with the sheepish responses people hand out about "just accepting it because nothing is finished anymore" because quite simply it is because of statements and acceptance like that. Stuff wasn't complete one day and not the next. It was a slow boogie. Stand for something or fall for anything. Anyway guys; this is the quickest and most rapid we've ever gotten support so I am optimistic and happy with 2ks support.

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4
On one hand, yes, it does get annoying. On the other hand, PC has a lot more variables to deal with -- everyone's rig is different and can be massively so. I can understand waiting, I'd rather not have to wait 2+ weeks for a new patch from the first time it's released, but it is what it is.
Sounds like we should expect the same treatment for the patch after this one as well. I'm hopeful that by opening tip of the regular season, all platforms are on the same patch and the game is as functional as the devs and consumers want it to be.
But I feel that we, as a consumer base, just need to tell 2K to not release until October next year. This September release and shortened dev cycle has played havoc with everyone. Give the devs that month back, the game needs it.
Plus, this is the only game I've ever owned where I consistently see this behavior (with every other game I can think of, PC is usually first or has an optional beta if all consoles aren't on the same page). I think we're simply last priority for support.
I wouldn't mind moving release back again. Though, if they keep the release date around where it is now it's not like it'll still necessarily be a short development cycle going forward, it'll be a full year between released like it used to be.Comment

The screen game is absurd right now. Something needs to be done to help defense there.PSN: Maserati_Bryan17Comment

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4
But ronyell got a point.
Why do they have to ship the game in September? I always thought early October was too sooo aswell. The nba season hasn't even started and rosters are not set. So why not wait some more weeks and test/fix some more things before the release.
Obviously I'm happy about every patch/fix they release. Espacially at this rate. They also could wait like 3 month before releasing a patch. But this also shows that they might sell it too early
...
Most internal testing teams are maybe 100 people at the most. They can catch a good deal of bugs. The reason why bugs seem to be identified quickly after release is because MILLIONS of people are playing the game. That significantly increases the likelihood that a bug will be found.Comment

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4s
I absolutely love that the patches come out consistently than no support at all after release. Shows you the dedication the developers put in even after the release. They are not required to put out patches but they want to improve the game so what's with the negative feedback? Would you rather have a broken game and have to wait till next year to see if things are fixed or just have to deal with downloads and patches consistently?Comment

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4
I'm very understanding of PC not being standardized like the consoles and more development being required, but I don't think that's the case here. There wasn't anything specific to PC in 1.03, and for a few years now there's been a consistent pattern of patches being released to Steam last even when there's nothing unique to PC in the patch.

I'm almost certain we're dead last in priority, but I'm also supremely thankful we still get sports titles at all from them. EA got out of the PC market with sports titles years ago and 2K could easily do the same if they wanted.
Good point on the release date, but I still kinda hate it. I appreciated the fact that the game came out the same month (generally speaking) the NBA actually started playing, but having it a full 6-7 weeks before regular season tip-off is just ... strange. I know Madden does a similar thing, but it always bugged me, too.Comment

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4s
I get the point here, but if the devs was a little bit more dedicated we wouldn't be in the dire and urgent need of patches in the first time. I appreciate the patch work, but at the same time, let's not act like they are doing us a favor because they are really only fixing their own mishaps in the first place. We deserve a game that functions in the intended manner. U don't get credit for fixing something where you contributed to its problems.
If they arent dedicated, that means no video game developers are dedicated.Comment

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4
If they released the game in November....many of the bugs would still be in the game.
Most internal testing teams are maybe 100 people at the most. They can catch a good deal of bugs. The reason why bugs seem to be identified quickly after release is because MILLIONS of people are playing the game. That significantly increases the likelihood that a bug will be found.
I saw tons of bugs and mistakes after only playing the game for a few hours. The bugs were so obvious that the only conclusion I could come to was:
"They knew this wasn't working, but it was due and they had no choice but to release it and fix it later."
Right now we're in the "fix it later with a patch" stage of 2k.Comment

Re: Patch 1.04 is out for PS4
I came to this thread to figure out what may have changed prior to the stream giving us the details...
I received several pages of bickering back and forth about patch history over the course of video games?

More people = more use cases = more data for developers.
Folks in here just simply don't understand the process behind developing software. It's not simply "write code > release to public".
I wrote an app, tested the living **** out of it on both iOS & Android for weeks. Sent the beta to the marketing agency, they came back with 4 bugs I missed in my testing. They simply tried things I didn't, and in one case it was something that was not presenting for me because I used a diff sign-up option in-app.
There isn't a single piece of software that has one version at launch, and zero subsequent versions (new versions = updates. 2K17 is up to version 1.03).
In the past video games just had "glitches" for that version's life cycle. Now, a version's life cycle is a lot shorter. Instead of cycles being the period between retail copies being sold, cycles are now periods between updates. Then they reset the versioning at the next launch.
It's really nothing to get upset about. Your computer's OS gets updates, your phone's OS gets updates, apps on [phones, computers, TVs, consoles, etc] get updates, TV receivers get updates, Smart TVs gets updates, consoles get updates.
Some cars even need software updates.
I mean...updates are a part of life. That's not anyone being sheepish, it's just not unnecessarily compartmentalizing what we know to be everyday life in 2016, for the sole purpose of questioning 2K's ethics.Comment
