The only reason they'd do that, imo, is cuz they're so proud of their work that they're forcing people to watch it. To me, that shows a lack of awareness about what a good game storyline looks like.

Or maybe Michael B Jordan and Creed Director insisted that we be forced to watch their master piece?

I get it. And options are usually always good. But for me, if I was the decision maker and the person that wrote the story, I honestly would make everyone watch it just one time. For the reasons you said, that I believe people would like it and also all the work and money spent on this, I would want people to at least give it a chance.

This year wasn't as bad as last year at all IMO. The only thing this year was the prelude cutscenes was too long. Other than that, I looked forward to them. It wasn't what I expected though. I thought there would be a lot more choices that could change the story. Which is what is disappointing for me.

I hear you, but... I've played games with waaay cooler cutscenes, and they still let me skip it.

I traded myself away from Justice Young and the cutscenes make no sense now. I didn't like how it wanted me to play a 2-man game with Justice and I am a CP3 fan, so I wanted CP3 to be my PG over the fake Michael B. Jordan.

Since I traded away from Justice Young, the cutscenes have been completely ruined for me... I still see Justice Young, my Fake Coach keeps telling me to "squeeze the juice," etc.

Maybe that is why it feels that much more poorly done, to me.

Yeah, they do. I am just saying if it was up to me.

I agree. The story isn't all that good as I expected. And I haven't had those issues yet because I never left Justice yet. But speaking as if I was apart of the team that made the story and thought it was as good as they probably thought it would be, I would've made it non skippable the first go around.

I agree it would be boring if they just took out the cutscenes, but I think the original poster suggested REPLACING them with something better - not just getting rid of them.

I think they should focus their time/money/resources on recording more commentary specific to my performance. Record more anecdotes for me (talk about how my career is going, talk about how i'm affecting the team, talk about my future, talk about my stats).

Right now, I'm playing Ground Hogs Day 2k - EVERY DAY THE COMMENTARY IS THE SAME. It's damn annoying.
          Exactly.

It seems some small minority of posters are confusing "getting rid of cut-scenes" with "getting rid of my-career". I'm suggesting the first thing, not the second thing.

They could take all that time and money they spend developing cut-scenes with NBA celebrities and movie directors and put it into something that is going to make the my-career mode waaaaay better than a really boring movie.

For example, with-out the limitations imposed by having to "fit" your character into their cut-scenes and narrative, you could:

          - Customise your own physical build (fat, skinny, muscular, etc) - it's very hard to do this with pre-recorded cut-scenes.

          - Choose your own voice.

          - Choose your own background (European, Australian import? Drafted from High School? 4-years of college?)

          - Have social media that made sense (i.e. not everyone trreating you like "the star" from day #1, even though you're only rated 57 and playing 5 minutes a game, because that's the story the cut-scenes are telling).

          - Have commentators that made sense (i.e. based their comments on you statistics up until that point in the game, not based their comments on the story being told in the cut-scenes)

          - Earn selection to the national team (wouldn't that be cooler than being "scripted" into it automatically by "the story")?

          - Play for a different national team than the USA (I'm Australian - there's plenty of European players too ... I have nothing against the USA, but I'd rather play for my own country)

          - Play out a totally different experience ... maybe the first time you play my-career you have no VC, you're just struggling to get drafted, you get picked up in the second round and the "game" is just trying to make the starting team and becoming a decent player. The commentators, social media, etc. all react realistically to this. The second time, you might buy a bunch of VC, start with an 85OVR player, get drafted 1st and have the experience of being the next coming of Michael Jordan (again, social media, commentators, etc. all react realistically).

These things are what make a game immersive, fun, challenging, realistic, varied, re-playable, etc.

Watching a boring movie that you have no control over and has nothing to do with what's happening on the court is not immersive or entertaining. But instead of implementing cool features like those listed above, they're wasting time and money on paying movie directors to make more cut-scenes.

I went into this in the OP.

Firstly, it's totally illogical. If they think people will just skip the cut-scenes and not watch them, why are they even including them in the first place? Let alone including them and forcing you to watch them. If they're good, and they add to the game, people won't skip them.

But I think they pretty much know they're not good and everyone will skip them. So they force you to watch them.

Why? There is a reason. Because without the cut-scenes, 2K16 is almost identical to 2K15. Without the new story, 2K17 is only a mild upgrade from 2K16. With the new cut-scenes they can claim it's a "new game" instead of a roster-update and a sprinkling of small improvements to game-play (i.e. a big "patch").

If people could skip through the cut-scenes, they would, and they'd quickly notice that it's not really a new core game at all. It's a patch on the previous game with new cut-scenes. And that wouldn't get good reviews.

Re: 2K18 - one wish: no more cut-scenes.

Would be fine if 2k go back with 2k18 to a more realistic and more customizable MyCareer. And it would be fine if we had more choices and real decisions.

What i mostly don't like besides the unskippable story-videos are the cut-scenes in-game. every game i play i must watch the same time-out cutscenes, i press 100x the A Button (xbox-controller) to skip the same scenes over and over again...i miss the flow, i want play and not watching every minute all the time the same scenes when i play a nba-game....sry for my bad english

No need to take this thread seriously. remove the cut-scenes and 2k sale numbers drop. Just because a vocal minority dont like it, doesnt mean there arent people out there who wanna watch and enjoy it. Remove the cutscenes and the same people here will make threads next year about how Mycareer is boring after a while.

Erm ... I don't think so. It's the "vocal minority" that do like them. Actually, that's not fair. They're not "vocal" about it. But there's a few guys who do like them. But definitely most people do not like them. Read the tread dude.

Don't get me wrong ... it's not "cut-scenes per se" ... it's the way they're implemented. Linear, stilted, silly, scripted, etc. You may as well watch them all YouTube if you like them. It's not a story you have any control over.

What we want is a real my career. We want stuff to react realistically - or at-least believably (it is a video game afterall - to what's actually happening in (supposedly) "your" career. But these cut-scenes aint it. If they made cut-scenes that make sense and change depending on what you do and how you play, etc., then there wouldn't be such as issue.

The problem is that it's basically impossible to make cut-scenes that react realistically like that. And the other option is what we have. So best just to leave them out.

i get what you are saying except thats not quite what this thread started out to be. it literally says no more cutscenes lol but anyway since people claim they know how to make anything other than just a simple and linear "career" mode without the story part, i really wanna read their solutions or things they wanna replace it with.

We don't know that it's a vocal minority.

Also, if you use twitter or check out reddit or read articles about 2k (even the good reviews) - they've all said: "Please, let us skip the cutscenes!"

I can skip the Uncharted 4 Cutscenes, which rival big budget movies.... but I can't skip the 2k cutscenes, which rival the worst Lifetime Movies? And when I wanna make my 2nd character? Shoot me now lol

Ever head of the movie Groundhog Day? It's what 2k reminds me of.

You hear the same stuff every game with very minor differences. It's obvious they recorded commentary for Exhibition Style games and then recorded 10-20 (that's probably being generous) more lines for MyCareer mode.

Like someone said, the only story there is happens in the cutscenes. They're not "choose your own path" or "dynamic" as advertised. The same thing happens for all of us - no matter what decisions we make.

The only thing good about those cut scenes is that I would go get things done around the place during, and then come back whenever I wanted.

Maybe 2k is trying to lowkey enforce the old Nintendo "Take a break every 30 minutes!" rule.
