Manual contest is a game changer for online head to head play. It takes absolutely no skill to contest shots with intense d or auto contest. When you force people to use manual contest, you see who is and who isnt skilled contesting and anticipating contests in 2k. 2k needs to allow MLO admins to globally control settings like auto contest, box out assist, and defensive assist options. Even though we enforce a 0 0 manual settings approach in our MLO, it would be nice to be able to globally control those settings from an admin perspective for 18.

His point is that Tony Allen / Andre Roberson behind the arc shouldn't need good defense. They shoot so poorly they barely need bad defense played on them. These guys can not shoot and should not be allowed to simply because they are open.
Defense should focus on the key threats on the floor. We shoud not have to waste a defender on a guy who literally can't shoot. Why would anyone guard Tony Allen or D.Jordan at the arc?Comment

I agree w/ both of you guys. That's why I did not even like hearing contested shots constantly being decreased because in the NBA it seems almost all of those shots would be considered contested in 2K.
I don't want to them to be dropping a lot but it seems most contested shots on this game is definitely off. I would like to see it raised a tiny bit NEXT year. Tired of any changes this year.

I agree. I just got done watching some of my old 2K11 Crew videos and I still think the shooting was amazing. I wish I had time to crop out all the plays but if you didn't really have your hands up or jump, there was a decent shot of them hitting in your face especially on a late contest. So on watching these videos you see a lot more jumping compared to now because you just have to walk into them.
Even though I believe the 3PT% should be raised slightly because almost all the top crews and players barely shot over 40% during that time.
I know that's realistic but I understand somewhat when people say it's a video game. You do have to raise those numbers a little for video game sake.
If you have time where you're just chilling or something watch this game and some shots that would be considered super contested in 2K17 and like you said possibly be an air ball. Also if you watch, check out how the big man can do a jab or something and face up and shoot. Don't really happen in '17.

I think 2K over did it on contesting but they did what they did in order to balance the game to ship this thing out.
The impact of contest a realistic contest of a shot is usually in the 2ft -4ft range. This impact usually reduces shooters on average about 5% from their open success rate. I am talking on average some players sometime shoot better when contested which is weird but it happens. Their was a study I read on NBA.com about it a couple years ago.
I looked up all teams and here it is
The entire NBA as in total
Open 4-6 ft 2pt 42%
Wide open 6 ft+ 2pt 44%
Open 3pt 4-6 ft 36%
Wide open 6 ft+ 3pt 38%
Tight contested 2-4 ft 2pt 38%
Tight contested 2-4 ft 3pt 32%
So basically
Open - Contest was 4.77% on 2pt jumpers so reduce by
Open - Contest was 5.21% on 3pt jumpers so reduce by
A contest should only account for something close to that across the NBA
If Green success wasn't automatic they wouldn't need to make contesting so dramaticComment

Certain aspects of gameplay were already separated. Even certain aspects of shooting, just not shot timing effects. So Yeah. This is the first time. With 18, I'll have even finer control over individual modes to make them exactly how they should be.
