Re: NBA 2k18 - Another VC grind fest?

Unfortunately, things are towards the point where, as one Youtuber put it, "If you want to be competitive you either have to no life it, or break down and buy VC to upgrade your guy".

The My Career mode itself has also evolved over time. It used to be analogous to the "Be A Pro" mode featured in other sports titles; now it tries to be some sort of hybrid between "Be A Pro" and "Training for My Park/Pro Am", and it doesn't do a very good job at all of pleasing either fan base.

The only reasonable solution I can think of at this point is to scrap the interconnectivity and separate the modes already.

Handle online the similar to the way they used to do with Crew (proper matchmaking/tiering,multiple positions,"Grind it out against people or buy VC" type marketing, minus all the glitching and 7'3" PG's ofc) and add in My Park/Pro Am functionality, this would probably be more consistent to what the online fanbase is looking for.

On the other end, bring back something like Creating A Legend mode(Offline, no/minimal VC involved, minimal storyline with concentration on the experience of playing basketball at the highest level) with CAP functionality (FIFA does this and it works).

If they also kept in the old functionality of also being able to play as an existing, or even classic, player and I think that would do a better job of keeping offline fanbase happy.

To be fair, Free To Play is a bit of a misnomer, depending on the game.

As an example, I play Warframe. While it true that I can earn every item just by playing, if I want to have access to more than a small handful of Warframes(somewhat analogous to different characters, different abilities, etc.) and a small handful of weapons, I need to purchase more slots.

Slots are purchased with platinum...it works pretty much like VC. Now, while I could earn platinum on the trading market, it is fairly involved and will almost certainly involve grinding for hours to get desirable rare items, and then find someone willing to pay a fair price for it.

On the other hand, I can spend a few IRL dollars and just buy some platinum. And to be honest, this is what I do once in a while. There is a difference however; any slots I buy will still be there for as long as the game is available...to me this is acceptable considering the number of hours I have logged.

Right. The main issue is 2k costs $60, more for some who buy more expensive editions

This wouldn't even be a problem if skill really mattered. But it doesn't. You can't win with a 55. I spend enough time literally grinding irl (I wanna play pro ball) I don't wanna grind on 2k. And it's not even like it's fun, it's monotonous.

Re: NBA 2k18 - Another VC grind fest?

Is 2k18 another VC grind fest? Yes.

Would it be a grind fest if it was strictly offline/no VC? Yes (as other iterations have shown when you’re offline the currency is the same under another name).

My concerns with these threads are the amount of contradictions that come along with them:

“2k pushes you to buy VC in order to be competitive because your 55ovr starting player can’t dribble, run, or even pass”… as that being the primary concern, Prelude 2k18 shows that has been addressed so these arguments seem to be no longer valid, yet here they are over and over again as if it still exists though it very well may not.

“2k forces those like me without the time to grind, to pay to compete… I have hundreds of thousands of VC but that’s not the point”… so they force you to pay for VC, but you have no time and yet you have hundreds upon thousands of VC? Oooook. Literally, even with the inflation... you could go start a brand new MyPlayer Archetype... at a 55 and go to a 85 like the thread suggests... but 'I don't have time'. Lol sure you don't. Where the hairstyle/beard option makes you a 84.95 instead of a 85 but that's crossing the line with the time that you "don't have"... lol sure.

“Madden has you pay for MUT and 2k has you pay for MyTeam – keep VC there! Keep VC in MUT or MyTeam!”................. So it’s ok to purchase VC in one mode to be competitive but not in the mode that YOU play, it's ok in ONE mode.. but NOT another mode… this agenda is becoming more and more clear.

“COD does it this other way, Madden has you do it this other way, this other game has you do it this other way” – You’re right, 2k does it differently, as a different company… in a different genre, working on a different game. That doesn’t make them wrong. They may do it a way that you disagree with, and that’s fine, but them doing it differently doesn’t mean they’re wrong or that they “don’t care or don’t listen about /to their fans” because that’s false.

So many contradictions and self-agendas in these threads, which is why I’ve always stated implementing a matchmaking system (long overdue) of 60-69, 70-79, etc. would be a good middle ground (let alone a more realistic one) for those that pay to play, and those that play to grind.

See? That is a nice idea you have there. Tiered matchmaking so people with 55s are not playing against 85s. One problem though. Do you think 2k is interested in that? After all, if people don't have an advantage by buying their way to 85, what is the point? They won't buy VC. And all these frustrated 55 players won't spend money just to level the playing field. And we can't have that, can we?

I made my point. The fact that the only retort so far has essentially been "its not fair!" speaks to that. That Dolphin dude has nothing of substance left to say. But y'all have fun with your pitty party and little protest. I'm done. Looking forward to enjoying the game in a few days.

Dude. Its not about having a pitty party or going against 2k super stans blinded by their 2k love.

Its about being fair. I love 2k basketball, not really a fan of their shady tactics.
Im not against vc but im against putting things that were free the year before behind a pay wall. Come on man how you feel about having to pay a game worth of vc just to change a damn haircut or a beard ?
Attributes will apparently cost more vc to max out your player this year for no damn reason mind you the max overall will be lower...am i supposed to feel ok with that ?
Oh you can customize your t shirts now ? thats great !!! That will cost 5k. Thank you !

I feel for the My Career guys, I really do. I don’t really have a stance on this issues since I don’t play my career and have never purchased VC at any point in my days of playing 2K basketball, but reading through this thread, I definitely see where you guys are coming from.

I can see MAYBE paying 100 VC for special cuts or beard styles, but 1000 VC for basic hairdos? That’s taking it WAY too far.

I feel for you guys, it sucks and is totally unfair what they’re doing when it comes to VC and the my career community this year. Keep up the good fight. I hope 2K realizes that it’s borderline insane what they’re charging in terms of VC prices this year and comes to their senses.

Re: NBA 2k18 - Another VC grind fest?

If there is a monetary system in 2k(VC) there should also be a way to make tons of it without grinding myplayers 24/7. I mean, being able to farm for VC should be a thing to be honest because 2K makes it so hard to actually earn alot of it on our own. can we get easier and more rewarding ways of earning
Virtual coins in 2K so we don't have to pay Real money for it when we are running low? I mean seriously, some people don't like going to the stage where all the glitchiest people have been at since 2k15.

I was thinking like being able to create your own dribble moves or having events or playing walk on/pro am games or park games which reward us with a higher VC wage. I mean, the cost of VC is rising, but our reward for winning games isnt increasing alongside:

I'm basically asking 2K for a virtual Raise. We've been contributing to this game and VC for quite sometime, and yet the cost of Virtual living keeps increasing. ALot of us arent children and could use our hard earned money on more important things, like bills, family, etc..

So if you guys agree with me that the 2k Community deserves a raise, and that our VC earned, and in General VC purchased needs to do alot more for what we pay for in REAL MONEY, lets get this thread going

I don't think we really need to justify our thoughts to some of these people anymore. Some people just like to argue. Strawman arguments will be made just to keep the endless cycle of nonsense going. There's only so many times one can say "That's not my point" or "I didn't say that" before you realize it's a waste of time.

We'll see when the game comes out just how much is earned per game, but we've learned enough about the game to know that we aren't getting a raise, but they are raising the prices of everything and giving less VC out via mobile app.

its funny man, if i were to go into legends thread or myleague thread and say "who cares about realistic legends, who cares about releastics stats or a sim experience or audio experience" (i dont feel that way at all lol) i would be chased out of there so fast..

but if there is a part of the community that is displeased with a certain mode - why arent they allowed to express it just the
                            same?

even if you see it as annoying - dont read it?..

it doesnt make us kids or immature that we're upset with something but what i do agree with is we either have to do something about it? or say "hey OS bros im just venting"
