NBA 2K18 Video - Developer Diary: The Art Behind the Game

A lot of people mentioning stretch marks and we've seen that 5-6 years ago lol.

Graphics is amazing though especially the small details people point out.

I guess it depends what you look for in graphics. I remember when 2k15 came out and I was impressed with how the colors seemed to pop more than 2k14, but that came with some areas looking "downgraded". Even looking at some 2k17 vs 2k18 shots I can see an argument for 2k17 having better lighting because there seems to be a higher contrast with that game. Then you can get into comparisons about body types, skin tones, jerseys, shoes, courts, accessories, and other finer details and there might not be one clear cut winner for each.

Right now I'm pressed to say 2k18 is the best overall because the body types and jerseys really stand out, faces look as good as they ever have, and there seems to be a ton of detail in even the little things (you can see the seams in socks). The only thing I'm waiting to see is the difference between PS4/XboxOne and PS4 pro/XboxOne X.

Lol thank you. 14 got surpassed years ago.

Hahaha shows just how far we've come with visuals, even in just one year. Last year was all about overly skinny players, players with no necks and huge traps/shoulders, cankles and thick legs, and poor fitting jerseys (especially the shorts).

This year butts is amongst one of the complaints (which I can see what people are pointing out). If this is where we are at with graphics we are seriously becoming spoiled gamers.

Tee one thing that really stands out tho that I don't like is how small they made these guys waists and butts (I know, here comes the jokes). Sure, it may work with some players, but not most.

Lillard just looks weird. No butt at all. Size 30 waist.

And Dray is a big boy. In 2K he has tiny lower body.

Dude I've been trying to stress the butt issue. They don't look as athletic with out any butt at all. Guys like harden and cp3 look much different than say Jamal Crawford. It's especially glaring when playing in broadcast cam. IMG_5650.jpg

They Draymond example is surely an angle representation making it look that way.

                    Agree.

People can laugh all they want, but if we're comparing every other body part, why not butts? Oh, because it's "butts"?

People want accurate player models. And that is part of it. As well as waists. To give these guys flat booties and tiny waists just look weird to me. Not saying the models as a whole look bad, because they don't.

And like you said, CPS, Harden and even Westbrook all have bubble butts. And most players have something in the trunk. But these models look to have absolutely nothing back there.

OK, enough butt talk. Carry on.

Better movement and more freedom for the players. Sounds dumb but it's true

I get people wanna make jokes...I get it. But as an art minor, who studied and recreated the human anatomy extensively. It's something that stands out. Game looks great..but it will make just as much of a difference as something like skinny legs or longer necks. That is all. IMG_5659.JPG
