Re: LEGENDS Thread - NBA 2K18 & beyond: (Accessories, jerseys, sig styles etc)

Random but... for any Spurs fans, the 1998 team can be turned into the 1991 club pretty easily. There's already eight players available (David Robinson, Sean Elliott, Rod Strickland, Sidney Green, David Wingate, Terry Cummings, Paul Pressey, Avery Johnson) and they really only need Willie Anderson to round out a pretty deep rotation.

Making such a team can work on a couple of levels. For one, it opens up the opportunity to use the prime version of David Robinson (or at least, closer to prime than the '98 version). Secondly, there's a lot of clubs around '91 that are already available, yielding a lot of competitive options ('89 Pistons, '91 Lakers, '91 Blazers, '89 Cavs, '91 Bulls, '91 Warriors).

Does anyone know if there's a roster available to download with missing players on their teams? I'm so pumped to play with 08 Hornets but no Pargo, Butler sucks.

It depends what system you're on. If you're on PS4, OS users gu8lal8 and MJWizards are working on completing and expanding classic teams. I believe their PS4 names are crazyh16 and GUMO73. A thread on their work can be found in the OS Rosters section (for some reason links to threads don't work for me or else I'd link you right to it).

If you're on XBoxOne, things could be tougher. I'd offer up my file but I opted to only fill out playoff rotations this year and even then it's a work in progress (and a mess in parts - I turned some teams into malleable hybrids).

I was thinking of that Spurs team or maybe the 1992 version with Dale Ellis & Rodman. I liked that team.

Splitting hairs but 1991-92 would still be pre-Rodman (same story with 92-93).

I like the idea of a Rodman-era Spurs team but I thought I'd heard the Rodman on the All-Time Spurs had black hair for some reason. I'll have to double check. If they fixed that, the 1995 team that lost to the Rockets would have a pretty solid roster already included:

David Robinson
Sean Elliott
Dennis Rodman
Chuck Person
Avery Johnson
Vinny Del Negro
Terry Cummings
Doc Rivers

Edit: I didn't think about Dennis Rodman on the All-Time Bulls. The Spurs version does indeed have black hair but the Bulls version has yellow hair with some extra colors mixed in. At'll do for a Spurs version.

I remember watching the Spurs a lot back during that 1990 - 1994 period. I remember the Lloyd Daniels experiment. He always intrigued me because he was so raw but clearly had talent. Fun bunch of players. I was a Ewing guy but Robinson was probably my 2nd favorite center.

Re: LEGENDS Thread - NBA 2K18 & beyond: (Accessories, jerseys, sig styles etc)

Question for you guys:

Is there an ideal or most realistic skill level to play on? Pro ended up seeming a little too easy so just to see what the game was capable of I bumped up to Hall of Fame. On that level, things felt pretty good with two exceptions:

1) Computer 3-pointers feel potentially unstoppable at times

2) Computer superstars are unstoppable

Sometimes it seems like the game just decides to turn things on. I was up 43-28 at halftime against the 1991 Trail Blazers last game (as a modified 1990 Pistons) and things felt pretty right. I was making sound plays and the lead made sense. Then Clyde Drexler shot 13-16 in the second half, scored 33 points in the third and fourth quarter and 23 (9-14) in three overtimes, finishing with 68 (27-38, 7-9 from three) in a 122-114 triple overtime win (10-min quarters).

Joe Dumars was guarding Drexler for a lot of the game. Things went well in the first half. Then it just stopped mattering who was guarding him (Dumars, Rodman, Salley, etc.). He seemed to make anything that wasn't blocked or an inch away from being blocked. Other times, he was able to coast off screens for wide open looks.

Admitting my video game defensive adjustment ignorance, are there 2K adjustments that could help mitigate superstar dominance on this level? I feel like double teams would just lead to the aforementioned automatic 3-point looks for guys like Terry Porter and Drazen Petrovic (the Blazers shot 14-24 from the arc even without double teams, Terry Porter finished with 24 points and 16 assists).

I had similar issues with Magic Johsnon. I think the 1991 version dropped 44 points and 18 assists on the 1991 Bulls. When I played the '91 Lakers with the '91 Spurs, it seemed like the game let Magic become a little more stoppable, even though it didn't feel like I did too much different (guarded him with Rod Strickland, even).

Will All-Star or Superstar suffice? Are those more realistic? Or am I just way worse than I thought I was? A lot about Hall of Fame seems really nice and like I said, things often go smoothly until the computer seemingly decides to stop being stopped. I held the Blazers to 39 percent shooting in the first half. They shot 62 percent in the second half, 74 percent in overtime (17-23, 4-5 from the arc), and pushed their overall field goal percentage to 58 percent by the time all was said and done.

This could be absolutely nothing but I had Magic backing down Avery Johnson. After I scored a few times, Sean Elliot starting guarding Magic. I didn't play long enough to see if that was just a nice coincidence. Throwing out a positive ! Maybe anyway lol

I've been playing exclusively on All Star since release day and have found that to be the level that gives me the most challenge and variety.

There are some games in which I slack off defensively from the opening tip and it's literally all down hill from there. In the same sense, if I come out and really give a great effort on both ends, I get the CPU either playing up to my level but not in an overly "cheap" way or I'm able to just cruise to an easy victory.

Like in any level All Star and up, there are going to be games that no matter what you do, the Terry Porter's and whoever else of the world suddenly transform into other worldy players. Such is life.

All in all, I'd say give All Star a shot, it might just be the right mix you're looking for.

I appreciate the insight. I think I'll give that level a shot tonight. Sounds like that's what I'm looking for i.e. the ability to compete and feel successful within the flow of the game of basketball.

I also play on all star. There are flaws but nothing too bad. That seems to be the sweet spot for me.

I've also subbed old school players on my teams. I tend to make "era specific" teams instead of "year specific" teams. I made a Washington Bullets team with Rod Strickland, Rex Chapman, Bernard King, Ben Wallace, & George Muresan. A fairly realistic lineup I think although I'll probably lower King's ratings a bit. Sometimes if I don't have a legend I can use, I look for a modern player, without tattoos, who is similar to an older player.

This isn't really a complain but more of wishful thinking. I played a game with the 90's Knicks & other than some model issues with Ewing, it felt really good. However, go from a classic game to a modern game. The improvement in atmosphere is huge. It was like that on last gen so I know to expect it. I just wish the classic team stadiums felt more alive. A little MSG organ during my game & I would've been pretty pumped. 2k has loads on their plate so I'm happy with what I have. Wish the arena sounds could be improved though.
