Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyLeague/MyGm Thread

So after Simmons my first season of GM.... as stated I wanted to bring Jabari back home to the Bulls. He ended up resigning to the Bucks in the offseason and I couldn’t make a trade with them because he was either injured and the Bucks felt like they were contending so weren’t making trades. We finished 27-55 and I knew I wanted to get an established young guy in to help the rebuild without having to go for broke in the offseason. That decision was made easier when the lottery slotted me at 5 which ruined my chances at one of the big 3 coming into the draft. So my attention turned to trading the 5 pick and Lopez. Boston offered me Jaylen Brown and several pick swaps between me and Boston over the next couple years for the 5 and Lopez. Perfect. So not only did I get a young talent to keep the rebuild going.. but I’m also going to have 60 plus in space next offseason and that’s even after giving Lavine is money this past season. My top 4 players are all under age 25. All 82-84 overall. And I have a real solid bench as well.

    Starting 5

    Kris Dunn
    Zach Lavine
    Jaylen Brown
    Lauri Markannan
    Javalle McGee

I saw an interesting post by Bleacher report on how the cavs could get players like Kemba, PG13 and Whiteside this offseason so I thought I'd try it out in MyLeague
I went on start today and the first problem I came across was that that it starts you at the very beginning of the offseason, before staff hirings and the draft lottery, so I ended up having to faff around getting everyone the right picks. Then when I came to make the trades suggested in the post I had the huge problem that for some reason every players contract was 1 year into the future. For example, when I tried to trade George Hill it said his contract was expiring and that I couldn't trade him. I was able to get around people opting out of contracts by editing them but then the final problem was that Kyle Korver retired so I couldn't trade him. Any suggestions for fixes for these will be greatly appreciated.

Let me know how javalle McGhee is doing. For some reason I was gonna go after him in free agency too lol I’m a bulls fan and I have a my league now that I’m waiting on draft night to start so that I can do the draft manually myself, first and second round. I’m trying to figure if we should trade up to get a higher pick or should I see who I could get bc I feel like I may be able to land Colin Sexton but I created myself as PG using my stats from my career and dunn is already a solid backup. I’ll make that GM decision on draft day. Hopefully somehow porter jr falls to 7 and we can get him lol.

Actually I just started a new “start today” my league and the draft picks somehow were in the exact order as they are in real life which as dope. I did have to trade a few of them around for it to be exactly but it wasn’t much I had to do. The only thing that was time consuming was staff hiring. Although I’m only controlling the bulls, I put everyone with the right new coaches, (nick nurse and another coach I had to create since they aren’t in game. I added Paul pierce as an assistant to the Celtics as well. For anyone that has trouble signing coaches, I found a way around it. I ran into this issue when trying to put Dwayne Casey as the new head coach of the Pistons. He wanted more money so he kept declining so I had to brainstorm for a minute then it hit me. I noticed that lower rated coaches or staff will sign in a heartbeat so what I did was hire Casey to another squad, put all of his stats at F and then fired him. Once I fired him I was able to add him to the pistons with no issues. Worked for other staff as well. I had to screenshot his stats so I could put him back to his original form.

Also when players retire u can unretire them by selecting them and overriding it but it can only be done for one season. Controlling each team in the off season is kinda the best way to handle things in case something goes wrong bc 2k will make a lot of unrealistic deals for you lol

In MyLeague in the Team Intel there's the team status. Does the team status affect the moves the CPU teams make with their rosters?

Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyLeague/MyGm Thread

Just started my Alternate History MyLeague and started 1-2 with the Bucks. @ Boston was a close loss, vs Cleveland was a blowout where Middleton scored 5 points..., and vs Portland was a double digit win.

Im looking to bring in a solid big when I pop up the trade finder... and Denver offers me Millsap AND Jokic, for Monroe, Middleton, and I think a 2020 first. I mean I get it, because Millsap makes 31m and Jokic will get PAID, while Monroe is an expiring deal and Middleton is still decent. But Im just thinking, if I could do that and then get a guy like Avery Bradley, Eric Bledsoe, or a sharpshooter like Allen Crabbe, would that be at least a little OP? Or am I totally overplaying this.

BTW, Im using the SimWorld rosters and sliders

Why are the names of staff fake? Only the head coach and assistant coach names are correct.

Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyLeague/MyGm Thread

Just started a new MyGM file with current rosters using my Orlando Magic. Looking to rebuild them back to Eastern conference prominence.

Haven't played a game yet, but made some roster moves to clear out some of the bad contracts. All in separate trades, I was able to move Evan Fournier, Bismack Biyombo, D.J. Augustine, and Terrence Ross (along with various picks to the other teams to take on these bad contracts) and bring in Isaiah Thomas, Vince Carter, Tony Parker, and Dewayne Dedmon. While none of those are pieces that I want to build with long term (outside of possibly Isaiah), they are all 1 year, expiring deals. So I have a ton of cap space to work with for the coming season, more than enough to allow me to keep Aaron Gordon long term, as well as Vucevic and Thomas if I choose to, and should still have enough left over for another significant free agent to add to the mix. With those trades, my roster looks like this heading into the 1st game:

                        PG - Isaiah Thomas
                        SG - Mario Hezonja
                        SF - Jonathan Isaac
                        PF - Aaron Gordon
                        C - Nikola Vucevic

                        Rotation:
Jonathan Simmons, Tony Parker, Vince Carter, Mareese Speights, Dewayne Dedmon

I also committed to Frank Vogel, who's preferred style fits how I want to build and play. I have no current plans to replace the coaching staff.

My long term goal is, build around Aaron Gordon and probably Nikola Vucevic and Isaiah Thomas. Develop Jonathan Isaac, and either draft or sign a 2 guard to carry me into the future.

Parker, Carter, Speights, and Dedmon are all sacrificial pieces to help clear up space that are just there as stop gaps, although I would like to try to develop Simmons and Hezonja into good role pieces for the squad.

Long term vision, I think that Gordon, Vucevic, and Thomas can be a worthy "big 3" to carry me to the playoffs, with strong support and contributions from Isaac, Simmons, and Hezonja. Then add my future SG into the mix, and I'm hoping that can be enough to carry me to another 2K title (My last NBA 2K championship was in 2K16 when I signed LeBron James and Kobe Bryant in 1 off season to join a developed Victor Oladipo, Elfrid Payton, and Aaron Gordon, to dominate my way through to a championship)

Short term, I'm hoping that that Gordon, Vucevic, and Thomas give me enough fire power to get me to the post-season in year 1. However, if for some reason the Isaiah Thomas project doesn't work out, I can also try to deal him at the deadline and see if I can get some sort of pick out of him, if he doesn't look to fit into my long term plans. I think I gave up a lottery protected 1st in the deal with Fournier to get him, so if I miss playoffs I at least won't lose my pick. And if I do make playoffs, I won't mind losing a lower pick. It will have been worth it.

The season began in disappointment, as the Magic dropped their opener to the Heat 116-109. However, it wasn't without its positives.

Mario Hezonja led the way for the Magic offense in his new role as starting SG, putting up 25 points, including 6-10 from beyond the arc. Isaiah Thomas put up 23 points and 13 assists in his debut with the Magic, and rookie Jonathan Isaac began his career with a double double, with 15 points and 12 rebounds, including hitting the first shot of the Magic season; a 3 pointer on the game's first shot attempt. He did shoot a low percentage, only 6-17. He also suffered a sprained left toe in the 4th quarter that will keep him sidelined for about 2 weeks.

The Magic have a day off before hitting the road against Brooklyn and Cleveland.

                            Jamal Crawford 4.54M

Alright As I have played a month into my season. One of the things I noticed, is that I created a monster in San Antonio unconsciously. The Spurs now have Mike Conley, JJ Redick, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge, Pau Gasol. I personally, think this team is a title contender.

Derrick Rose, has seemingly found his old form putting up 21ppg, 10.2apg, 3rpg. Paul George, on the other hand has struggled to find his place in the offense despite scoring 20+ppg. We also decided to make a trade. We traded Center Daniel Theis to Phoenix for Tyson Chandler, and a swap of second round picks. After Chandler appeared in approximately two games for the Liberty they decided to give him a two year extension worth roughly $7M. The second year is an player option for Chandler.

The Magic got off to a slow start to the season, dropping their 1st 3 games. They didn't expect to have to wait until 4 games into the season to get their 1st win, but that win finally came in a home matchup against the Nets, getting a bit of revenge for the loss they took in Brooklyn the week prior.

Isaiah Thomas led the way for Orlando with 24 points and 11 assists, while Mario Hezonja continued to flourish in the starting role, contributing 21 points. Both Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic added 18 points (with 14 and 16 rebounds, respectively), meaning 4 of the 5 starters scored in double digits. Tony Parker continued to be a spark off the bench with 8.

The 119-105 victory puts Orlando at 1-3 on the year. Next up, they host the Spurs before taking off on a 3 game road trip.
