First of all this game is a straight 9/10 easily!!!!! I like the transition of the offense, the low post action , the ai shooting when open and the overall smoothness. ..

Just freaking awesome....Now for the newer guys on this board if you love this game stay out of the impression thread and go straight to the slider thread..... trust me it will turn your smile upside down lol.....

Did they completely remove pre game intros? Haven't seen one yet. Only played one game, liking it so far. feels different, I feel like I have more control of my player, and that is the best way i can describe it. I believe in previous years, when using say Rudy Gobert, I would feel shoved, or pulled away from paint when moving, and I know those were animations trying to imitate weight. But this year feels more organic, and less canned. I also like shooting this year better. more fluid, easier for me to grasp.

Prob the worst playing NBA 2k game in years.



Luckily I have sliders galore I can change and I'm making it immensely better



But jeez this game is made for online play



Kinda disappointed



Animations are clunky

What console are you playing on? I feel like it def took a step back. Super bland lighting and textures. Player models are improved, but that's about it. Outside of player models, from broadcast cam, this might be worst looking 2k on next gen.

Gameplay is solid. Some clipping issues. My biggest gripe is it doesn't look very next gen. 2k got my hopes up with some early screens, but it looks pretty meh. I have a ps4 pro, but not 4K tv. I was going to buy 4K tv specifically for this game and FIFA, but now I'm not so sure. Has anyone played in 4K, and seen a noticeable difference?

Not impressed by visuals either.
I still think NBA 2K14 remain the best on current gen, so great court reflections which 2K toned down through years.
Live 18 impressed me better on visuals, courts lightning and texture are great, though 2K still vastly superior on animations.

Anyone thats been here long enough KNOWS what i'm talking about by now...

Ive edited NBA 2k ever since it was on 360.

Countless slider sets and full roster edits that helped with entire gameplay and animations.

Usually I praise NBA 2k and the out of box experience but this year?

I can not.

My impressions so far is that it was horrible out of the box.

My ongoing impressions are that NBA 2K supports the editing community so much that IF you wanted a better playing game you can darn well make it play better yourself.

personally i feel this years focus was about mycareer and getting online balancing done well

While also implementing the tools for us to further tweak til our hearts content.

Again i am not a fan of online gaming and gimmiickery i want simulation style basketball and although we dont get "sim" right out of the box. WE CAN get it eventually, but i feel that is becoming a dying breed of gamer.

last night at the pre release all the talk was about upping their mycareer player to 99 and getting haircut and dressing themselves up in shoes.

Nobody wants realism anymore so the focus isnt there at the jump.

US old schoolers here know what im talking about.

Can I get some examples because I have no idea what you mean? Just a few examples

Im all about play now nba simulation and unfortunately it just doesnt cut it for me.

been around this game series awhile(and no I do not like the other one any better at all)and it frustrated me nothing was smooth clipping animations shots that wouldnt go in overly difficult shooting. yikes even lebron height is bad

Its not all lost though

after tweaking with sliders and the newer sliders now available the game play is awesome

But thats after about 20 tweaks

Ok maybe if i just try and say what i see.

First off.

The gameplay speed is sluggish. Obviously toned down so that online play doesnt feel like a boost/cheese fest

Second.
Shooting and how players animations look releasing the ball. Its almost as if the timing makes for the games animations to be not in sync.

3rd.
The game's lighting is dark. Playing on xbox one s about to try pc soon ONCE it downloads (YIKES!)

4rth.
Player models still not that great. They can be made better by adjusting their heights in the roster editor but thats alot of trial and error but doable just more work which leads me to believ they just wanted face scans to be right nothing else rush job

5th.
Player and defender interactions. Last year off the ball and screens looked just better. Again this is out of the box PRO difficulty

6th.
Player likeness. As far as sucess rates. Again been toned down not for realism to actual nba stats but for online play so that ppl dont cheese one another.

That a quick few i got editing to do LOL

I recently played nba2k7(as i always do playign all nba titles up to relase )

and it even was good

I did play one game online and it was.....ok so far. There were some cheese issues so I won't be online too much this year lol.

I respect your opinion more than others here. I'll be playing offline. Hopefully your edits can straighten this out for MyLeague

Maybe it looks really good on 4K, but it looks avg on non-4K. Maybe they had to tone down visuals to account for smoother gameplay, or maybe they went for a more realistic palette, which calls for less shine and less strong lighting..I don't know. But it just doesn't look impressive as previous titles to me. Hope someone will do a comparison to last year or 4K vs non

I'm in the exact same boat as you.

I just bought a PS4 Pro, but no 4K TV yet.

On broadcast cam, the lighting and lack of court reflection may be the worst I've seen from 2K in the past 3-4 years.

Big time bummed.

Wow hot take alert. Question, most agree 2k17 played great out of box but patches hurt the experience in the long run. Would you say this is worse than post patch 2k17 or are you unable to compare because you typically play with sliders?

Interested in trying out your sliders and tweaks once you have them configured.

I saw intros. But there was no music playing so that seemed odd. Also, no lighting. When the home team was announced the arena lights went out but there is no spotlight on the player being announced. So you can still see them, but it's very dark.
