Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread

Got a few more games in, my main takeaway is that its just so smooth to play. Gameplay wise this may better than 2k16

I actually enjoy playing defense.
Running a fast break feels great.
Dribbling is great.

9.5 out of 10 so far. I'll play some more later though.

So something thats annoying is the fact you cant add 2-way players to rosters yourselves. Unless I'm missing something there isn't an option,

One quick impression is that they might want to tune the draft classes. I went in and created a bunch and saw 90+ overalls as the top player about 20% of the time.

Very good first impression. Game is so smooth.

One gripe though is there's an enormous amount of clipping which is a little frustrating to see.

I'm really liking the game so far. I played a couple games against a roommate on Pro that were pretty smooth.

Then I had the PS4 to myself and played against HoF - so fun, yet pretty challenging too. I'm probably gonna hold off on starting MyGM until the patched CAP version comes out or maybe I'll see if the draft classes from the best creators on here turn out ok.

Maybe one thing I noticed is that the first steps after triple threat moves are really quick, almost too quick since they usually allow you to easily blow by the defender. Not sure how they'd adjust that since they obviously tried to take out defender warping.

I'm also not a fan of some of the court colors (like Boston's and my Nets') - they seem off.

Another minor thing is that it seems theyve moved the MPG stat to after FT%. Weird placement

Do we not have the option to call 20 second time outs anymore??

I'm kinda liking the vibration in the jump shots.

NBA took out 20 second timeouts this summer.

Looks like we're back to 2K16 in the dull courts/lighting dept. It looked better last year. I don't get it at all.

Warriors and Lakers' courts at least look brighter than all the others. But still, lack of reflection is quite an eye sore.

Very first gameplay impressions (playing on superstar, day 1 patch not installed yet cos still downloading. I’m playing as Blazers vs Lakers):

-Lots of players walking through eachother in the introduction scenes lol. Looks silly.
-Defense is SOOO much better. On so many levels.
-Pretty cool how defenders can’t see the pass coming if their back/head is turned.
-Loving the “live ball” feel.
-Maybe i’m sleep deprived, but the game feels chaotic and intense. I like that! You gotta be in the moment to keep up.
-Loving the cpu fastbreak AI in regards to passing.
-I really like that players with bad defensive awareness don’t choose proper positioning with team defense. That’s great. It’s such an important and impactful distinction to have. Remains to be seen how frequent that is yet though. Who knows if it’s overdone or underdone or just right.
-Contesting shots has a big impact. I like that.
-It’s really hard to skip through the quarter time and half time breaks. Takes a while for the button to do anything.
-Lots of missed shots. I gotta learn how to score.
-Where’s player of the game package??

This game is great. It's real basketball. If you take a step back it’s actually amazing how far this game has come in the past 5 years. Lets hope the gameplay balances don’t get patched into trash again.

This game is so much insanely better than 2k17 it's ridiculous. This a 2k11 like jump

Played my buddy in 2 games online. Boat raced him the first game because if I got open shots with good shooters I made a ton of them, and he was still trying to play it like the arcade-ish game it's been in the past. So that was nice.

Another positive: Ball physics and player collision effects. I thought any shot my player should block or at least make contact to commit a shooting foul, that's what happened. Way too often in past games, it was like bodying a player had no effect, or balls that should have been blocked practically went through the players hand who was attempting the shot block.

Con: I don't think this is being nit-picky at this point..2k16 subs were tedious and it seemed like it'd be an easy fix for 2k17, and that it couldn't be worse. 2k17 subs ended up being more tedious and worse. Again, thought that they had to get enough feedback from people to recognize the sub methods were way too complicated the past 2 years, and they'd be able to really simplify it and make it easier to make subs in game. This years subs fall somewhere in between 2k16 and 2k17. It's incredible how in depth this game is, how much detail is paid attention to, continuing to make gameplay and game mode enhancements..but they have totally whiffed on maybe the easiest element of this game THREE years in a row.
I distinctly remember the POE edit screen was missing from the game at the beginning of 2k17 and then they ended up patching it in about a month later towards the start of the season after a few guys mad a big deal about it so there might be hope that later on down the line the body measurements sliders COULD BE patched back into the game if we say something about it... and who knows... they might be able to fix the CAP feature too... so yeah... we have to let them know what we want and hope that they fix it... still no excuse for them to regress on certain features that we've had for years now...
2k devs on here: please patch this stuff back in! At least by the start of the season
