yeah. It is a useful crutch to quickly lower or raise OVRL structures but nothing more. I am currently running a test with it at 25 in Roster and my edited draft classes (that are in line with the roster in terms of strength, i would wager), while also lowering potential for all players by 5, just to see if it ("it" being OVRL being lower by an average of 4 across all players not the effect of INTGBL as such) helps with the cap situation across the league.

My bet is it does, but not really in the way one would like to see happen. All that'll happen is a few less max contracts but still not enough players signing mid-sized contracts, meaning the 2,3 albatross-contracts on teams will still wear them down ...

Quick question: I have been seeing a few contract extension before the last season on the contract (so not during the 17/18 season for 18/19 but for 19/20), not quite sure if that is correct in terms of the cba, but could not find out quickly.

The simplest explanation is that any player can re-negotiate and extend after a certain period from when the last contract was signed (3 years). They're used either to overpay players who were underpaid on their current deal (might see one with Robert Covington when he can extend in November) to mitigate a future larger cap hit by using free cap space now, or extend players who you don't want to reach free agency -- Harden, Westbrook, etc.

There are nuances to it from there, but this should mostly point you in right direction.

The way its supposed to work is this:

Rookie Scale Extentions (players coming into their 4th year on a 1st pound pick contract) and Designated Veteran Extentions (players with 7-9 years experience that meet the criteria to get an extra 5% of the cap per year i.e. "Super Max") are due before the start of the season.

All other veteran extentions can be signed up until June 30, including right before a player becomes a free agent. There is no March deadline IRL.

Vets who signed 3 or 4 year deals can be extended after theyve served 2 years of that deal, from that offseason all the way through June 30. Vets on 5 or 6 year deals, (6 being the Designated Rookies or Designated Vets) can be extended after theyve served 3 years of that deal. These rules also apply to contracts that were already extended, in relation to when the extention was signed, how many years remain.

Also something of note, teams are only aloud to have 2 Designated Rookie Extentions and 2 Designated Veteran Extentions on the team at a time and can only acquire one in a trade. Again, these are the "Super Max" extentions and free agents.

Have you tried altering the ratings..... making many more players in the 60-75 range? Really stretching out the ratings like they should be

I wonder what a low 70 rated Jordan Clarkson for instance would go for?

Re: MyGM/MyLeague : Bird Rights not working/displaying and RFA not functioning

I noticed in 2k17 salaries not only depended upon rating, but intangibles and potential too. James Young for example, finished the season as a 68 overall. Played maybe 10 games. I control all 30 teams so I declined to re-sign him to the Cetics. Despite still only being a 68, somehow his potential was at an 85-90(don't remember his exact potential but around there) and his intangibles were in the 80s as well. I was gonna sign him to a team on the min but he demanded a 4 year 45 mil contract and nothing less despite not playing and having a low overall.

It's beginning to seem like the 2K team is having the same issues that the Madden team is having.....that there is massive amounts of old code behind all the new stuff they put in, and it just doesn't interact correctly. The problem compounds itself very year.

These companies really need to figure out a way to scale up these games every year without it getting worse and worse.

There definitely is a disconnect between performance and conpre on 25 million a year plus contracts. Now granted the salary cap rose during those six years, but the inflated overalls were causing the problem of no mid level contracts. Every team, no matter how bad or in what stage or rebulding had 3 large contracts and the rest of the team making less then 9 million per year with 5 or 6 per team pulling down the minimum.

2k has to figure out 3 things:

                  1. How to get away from overinflated overalls. They are the bane of the entire trade/free agency/contract system

                  2. How to make production impact contract negotiations a lot more than overall rating or potential (or age/potential).

                  3. How to prevent teams from overspending when they are trying to rebuild. Too many teams that are feeling their way through "the process" are throwing 20 plus million per contracts at players that aren't going to get anymore than an 8th seed. There seems to be some coding that pushes teams to sign free agents until all the players above a certain level are gone. Combine this with the overinflated contracts due to overinflated overalls and you have a recipe for bad teams struggling to get better as they pile on bad veteran contracts and often leave 1st round picks without minutes or barely playing behind 34 year old vets making way too much money

No problem brother, Im the resident CBA nerd lol. I think 2k may have confused that deadline with the last day that players are able to be signed and still be playoff eligible, not sure.

The original glitch in this thread......does it happen with imported classes too, or just the game-created ones?

His intangibles had nothing to do with his asking price, except in how they affected his overall rating. It was his high potential and very young age (21 in 2k17) that made him ask for that, even though he had no record of performance for it.

This is one of the ongoing issues with how the game calculates player asking prices.

And it's all stemming from the overinflated ratings 2k gives out to be buddy buddy with the NBA players. They only care if it works right in a quick game

They won't fix the roster ratings, that we all know. So we'll have to wait for simworld or someone else to put out a rebalanced roster which utilizes more of the rating scale than 70-99

                            I disagree to an extent.

I do agree the game is too generous with ratings of current players (these rookie ratings this year are a joke), but the ultimate ML/MyGM free agency problem is because. . . it does not simulate free agency.

The current system basically lets players set their market value. Period. But that's not how free agency works. Teams also set market value.

Until the game builds some kind of supply/demand bidding system for FA's with CPU teams making reasonably intelligent roster construction decisions and cap decisions, it will have this problem. I like the league to have some real stars - they usually can set their market values. But guys who are #2 and #3 options on a roster don't set their values and get max in real life.

How about if CPU Teams could be assigned cap strategy categories based on their team strategies (rebuilding, buying, contending, selling), that would be a start. Those cap strategies could be something like "all in" (tolerates luxury tax), "max out" (will go up to the luxury tax), "competitive" (will go up to the cap), "flexible" (save some cap space anywhere from 1-15% of cap), "dump salary" (try to be >15% below the cap)?

Along with that, how about if only stars or superstars could get max offers from a team? Guys identified as "core" don't get max offers from teams.

Also, what if players could become more flexible with their signing prices as free agency progresses over time and if they have not received acceptable offers yet?

If all those three things were coded into the game, you'd be a lot closer to a simulated supply and demand free agent market, even with a reasonable number of stars (90+) in the league.

If you also made CPU teams do better roster construction to fit their coach's systems and avoid signing more than 7 guards or more than 7 PF's and C's, that would also help. Or make it a roster AI rule that a team must have at least 3 guys who can play any given position, either as their primary or secondary positional assignments.

I'm with you and I agree.

I'm talking about potential ways to at least potentially make free agency work a little better with what we have.

They're not gonna overhaul free agency in a patch, so your ideas, which I'm all for, will hopefully be implemented in a future game.

As of now it seems that there are few mid level contacts, because simply there are few mid level rated players. Everyone is close to "all star" rating.
