Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyCareer Thread

MyCareer is getting worse year by year in 2k. Best experience was 2k11 till 15.

    So to MyCareer in 2k18:
Im in my 3rd Season and Im still the Rookie for all other players, Shaq and Kenny are always ask me the same questions over and over.
After 200th interview, my player is still surprised that he should or could talk to the guys in the sudio.

BTW I have a super Team with the Bulls, because Salary Cap is not existing.
    PG me
    SG Lavine
    SF L.James
    PF N.Jokic
    C H.Whiteside

the complete Starting 5: every player has a contract over 25+ millions/year!

My complete Team Salary Cap is -120.000.000 $ wtf?!!

      Kevin Durant-pf
      Anthony Davis-C

Lol then deandre jordan is coming off the bench.

It’s a pretty neat feature but you can literally can anyone you want. Not real at all

Fully agree. After 2k15, it went downhill fast. I always create two players. But this year, i don't plan on it. I don't want to go through story line, slow development, bad team AI and playcalling.
Where I'm grinding now, not to improve my player. But to be able to influence trades. I shouldn't have to suggest that we need a backup PG and SG because we have none. That we have 5 bigs on the bench that all plays over 15mins. No bench scoring. And backcourt plays 40+ minutes.
I'm going to stick it out. but if it is more of the same next year, I'm skipping next year.

Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyCareer Thread

I'm 4-5 games away from next cap breaker. It could have definitely been 4 games but I simmed quarter of last game we had a blowout win. We are on a 10 game winning streak. I still might get it in 4 games, if I have good games and do good on drills. I still have doubts that it will get my to 90 OVR. But even at 89, i don't have too many upgrades. So i should get it to 90.
Wierd that Shumpert has been our 11th man all year so far. He got recently and moved up to 10th. But last game, he got the starting SG spot over Hield, moving him to 8th man. We had a blowout win in that game and they moved him back to 11th man. That is a Lineup I'm considering once I get to 90. Adding Shumpert to starting lineup or at least give him 20-25 minutes, it adds more wing defense on the court. So if I move Cook to SF and IBaka to starting PF, we could have every guy on the court with at least 80 On Ball Defense and 4 with 75 3pt.
I just want a backup PG and wing. Our main problem on offense is that backcourt plays too much and takes more shots than they should. Then since we have nothing but bigs on bench, we have 3 bigs on floor and the Fox and Hield stay on floor and still take bulk of shots. If we can get 3 more backcourt players, I would be Bogdanovic as 6th man, then backup PG, new SG/SF, Shumpert, other New SG. I would drop my minutes to 34 from 39. Amd even out the minutes for all others

Good thing y'all say that cap doesn't matter. Besides me, starting 4 are all on rookie contract. But we are 30 mill over the cap. I was surprised to see that. But its our bench players. Mozgov has a 16 mill cap hit and Ibaka has a 23 mill cap hit. I'm 3 games away now. Our 10 game winning streak got snapped despite leading by 20 most of 1st half. I got into foul trouble early and fouled out early in 4th. But we lost lead because of bad lineup. Labriesse and Cauley Stein come in With me, that really limits offense big time. Because great chance Bogdanovic and Hield are on cold streaks and Fox can't really create for himself. Despite not getting the amount of XP i was expecting. I'm drills on pace to get cap breaker in 3 games. I either have to go all out in those games or have to do alot of Gatorade drills after 3 game.

We just gave up 174 in a quadruple OT and my dude is out here about how we’re ‘stingy’ on defense lmao

Brad Beal put up 63 points. A mix of him being a genuinely great long distance shooter and 2K comeback code meant that while I was sat for the first half of the 4th, they cut a 17 point lead to 9 and then by the end of regulation he and Porter had rattled off another 5 or 6 threes. All of this without John Wall. I got my first 30 point game of the year (through choice, I’ve limited myself to 10-12 shots per night but Durant is out so I’m back in my usual position at the 3). Cousins came in clutch when KAT fouled out even if Alan Williams was bullying him, literally receiving the ball, pivoting and bursting past him for easy buckets.

It totally sucks how difficult it is to progress once you pass the 90 overall mark.

I get like .7% increase after winning proam games with an A teammate grade? Seriously?

I give them a pass for salary cap stuff in mycareer, because it affords us the opportunity to have a decent roster. I've lost track over the years how many career saves have been ruined by CPU trade/FA logic. I've had saves where I've been the only PG but we've got practically every other trash center in the league on our roster. I'd rather have this unrealistic aspect in the game, than being back at the mercy of the CPU AI.

I only play career these days after trash archetypes were introduced last year, and I didn't find chasing sharps round HoF screens to be a completely satisfying basketball experience, but i was watching some YT the other day of 14/15 careers.

                  We had decisions that matter:

2k14 - Changing agents meant you wouldn't get a certain shoe deal.

Refusing to complete part of your rookie duties, then complaining about the player that asked you, would get you traded off the team behind our backs.

Recruited by Lebron (even though it didn't really ever work out)

Jackson Ellis rivalry, and then he tries to recruit us at the end of our 2nd season - imagine that; part of the story that goes beyond one season.

A groundbreaking story mode as the first sports game to go down that route.

                  Regular locker codes for VC

2k15: Great premise of the undrafted rookie getting a 10 day and working up from there.

Choices that matter - answering questins in certain ways would earn you badges.

                  Team conflict over text messages.

Social media interaction with other stars

Recruited by other teams players in the off season

Regular locker codes for VC and in-game items

2k16: This is when the mode hit the skids. I admire 2k for trying to be ambitious with Spike lee, but trying to write a gritty BBall story with 14yr olds in mind leads to goofy characters like Vic.

Basically it was just watch this terrible story with corny dialogue

2k17 - the whole games should have been aborted before birth.

2k18: I want to thank 2k; I didn't think I could ever despise a character more than Vic, but you've completely proved me wrong on that.

Decisions that are just inane and unnecessary - "how many phones do you have?" Joke about shammy or don't joke about shammy? "do you want to play a game where we can only ask questions?"

One long infomercial dressed up as career mode, which also happens to be highly inappropriate - advertising unhealthy cereals, sugary drinks etc to 13yr olds in a game, whilst obesity is becoming more of an issue amongst young dudes is socially irresponsible.

I think they're purposefully watering down the mode to the point where they can make it so bad that people will turn around and say "scrap the mode" and they can knock that creative expense off their bottom line. 2k18 has shown us that profit is an increasingly worrying motivator for the suits.

The neighbourhood is a great concept though, and if they stick with it I'd be interested in seeing where it's at in a couple of years time.

Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyCareer Thread

Really disappointed. I managed to get my cap breaker in 3 games instead of 4-5 like I thought. I had a fear that this cap breaker wouldn't get me to 90 because it took 2 cap breakers to get to 89 from 88. So i was upset that I stayed on 89 OVR after grinding for a couple weeks to go up 2 points. What didn't help was that I only got 2 upgrades like the last cap breaker. I understand it will get harder to upgrade player. But I thought since i didn't have a lot of upgrades left, even 2 would move me up to 90. It took me 14 games to get last cap breaker. Now it might take longer since it takes longer after a cap breaker. I only play the career games, so it might take a couples weeks to get next cap breaker since i don't have time to play game daily.
This has me contemplating about continuing my career. Where I know next cap breaker would definitely get me to 90. But now to have to play another 16-18 more 12 minute quarter games just so I can go up 1 point and finally start to enjoy the game. Since it is harder to grind with a Big, it would take longer to upgrade. I just wished it waited until 92 before it got ridiculous to upgrade players. I just wanted the abilty to change rotations and influence roster movements. We have depth issues. Now don't Want to play as much because my favorite teammate Cook lost his starting spot because Ibaka got "hot" the last game I played. I thought after getting cap breaker, i could change it back. But not only do have to wait until next cap breaker, but he dropped another spot in rotation because another player got hot. So he'll barely play.

Not sure I focus heavily on grinding anymore on this player. Won't have much time and other video games will come out soon that I want to play. Once playoffs end, i don't plan on playing. The problem with me is that the whole grind part is difficult when you don't play online as well as career games. Where I'm potentially stopping this career just because of poor AI team management. I could manage without adjusting minutes. If the AI was smart enough to realize that we have too many bigs and only 2 backup wing players and only one plays for only 8 minutes.

Don't really want to start up another career. Mainly because when I started this career, I waited until February and saved up a ton of VC. So now I pretty much will start from 60 and have to grind just to have a decent player. I have no desire to fork out money just so I can avoid the initial grind. I will play a couple games just to see how long it would take. I can tell after 1st game and practices how long it would take to get next cap breaker. If it is something I can do in next 12-14 games. Then I can deal with it, if not I might be done with this career.

Just did first gane after cap breaker. I fouled out early in 4th. But I still got 10000 XP. But i didn't even get 2 percent increase. Most games I get 12000-15000. So good chance I may not even get a 3% increase. So that would take even longer. So even if i play until I get it. It will be past trade deadline since I'm over 20 games in. So I'm pretty much done with that player unless to get VC. I might creare a new one

But no backup PG, only one backup SG that plays, no backup SF that plays. 5 bigs on our bench that all plays. So alot of times 3 bigs on the court with fatigued backcourt who played most of game. Where i have to grind to get to 90 to change it.

2k16 and on has seen a steep decline. Where the emphasis has been to try to add pointless storylines and advertising. Storylines that you can't skip and doesn't add any real life elements. Didn't like Vic and don't see the point in B Fresh or Byran who doesn't seem like an good agent to begin with. I dont really see any change for next year. They already make a lot of profit with micro transactions. I know there are people who is willing to spend $50-100 a year on getting VC or MyTeam cards. That plus the money they got from advertising, don't see a point for them to change

I think it's a terrible idea because it does nothing but make getting to where you really want to go take even longer. Pretty much serves no purpose.

Its one thing to lump ratings into badges that can only be upgraded as you improve badge. But it's another thing that it has NO impact on Overall. Where you can improve defensive ratings(besides block, steal), free throw, Hands, Reaction Time without getting the badges. But even when max badge, it has no impact on OVR. Where my center had Gold Defensive Stopper, so on Ball D and other ratings associated were at 89. But had no impact on OVR. .

I created a Sharpshooting Playmaking SF. But not sure if i will take the time to fully develop him. I had 12K VC to start with. But it will take a long time to get him to be playable . i don't want to spend money on this player.

I get that and I agree. I am hopeful that a neighbourhood setting gives them the opportunity to really fill it out and make it alive, incorporating things such as a matchmaker arena instead of got next. Pretty sure that ruffles this year was the introduction of the new software and running tests on it. I view it as the first year of this with something better as the ultimate aim.

Went on to have a sweet streak!...
While still blowing some easy wide open Layups...lol

We had a nice winning streak going on to start the season...17-0...so lets keep that thing alive...
Wiggins came back and Wells is now the 6th man.

                              Fast forward:
51Pts 5Reb 15Ast to tie the record the Lakers put up in '71/'72
And then 44Pts 13Ast to set the new one up...
2 more games until the 1. GS meeting...
                              Had a good month with:

                              This year so far:

                              1xPOTM

                              Wells
17.4Pts in 17minutes, while raining down Splashes at .617

                              League looks like this:
                              GSW 27-4...
                              HOU, OKC, NO, SAS, LAL...
DAL and SAC are the last two in the West and the Kings having a shattering record of 4-28!
                              East:
                              1.CLE 23-9...
                              PHI, BOS, TOR, CHA
Way behind are NY 8-23 and
                              ATL 9-25

Isaiah Thomas is the leagues leading scorer with 28.7ppg

What are the other big names doing?

                              Harden: 27.6ppg/5.7reb/8.5ast
                              Paul: 16ppg/4.2reb/9.2ast
                              Davis: 20.4ppg/9.2reb/3.2ast/1.7blk
                              KAT: 21.4pts/17.5reb/2.4ast/.638

Butler is the #27 shooting guard in the league: 11.3ppg/3.3reb/2.7ast...but still effective, specially on defense.

And here comes GS and the 2K cheese was in full effect!

                                1. KAT goes down in the 2nd Quarter, with an ankle injury (8-10weeks out)

                                2. i was allready in foul-trouble to start the 3rd Quarter with 4...2 of them came when i drove to the basket for a lay-up = offensive foul

                                3. TO-City...had like 6 or 7at the end of the first half...most of them happened when a teammate looked at me, lifts his arm/calling for a pass, you pass, they turn away as soon as the Ball left your hands and the defender jumps in between...and they score an easy fastbreak...

                                4. No Towns...and the defense just can't get any more rebounds...or let's say getting heavily out rebounded...

                                5. fouled out midway through the 3rd Quarter...just as we had getting back into the game, after being 10+ down...
Foul#5: Curry wants to drive to the basket...i run next to him = illegal block...
Foul#6 Curry runs across from one corner of the 3 to the other...i chase him through traffic, touching one of his teammates=foul...=fouled out...

                                Great...just great...we were up by 4 points...and lost 121-110 to GS and 2K...

The Streak ends with 34 Ws in a row...
