Possibly against a guideline. Or 2K threatened them in some way. Seen it happen sadly before. Saw a psychiatrist try to sue one of his patients for a bad Google review. 2K should take note of what happened to that psychiatrist (1000 1 star Google reviews after that news got out) and not escelate the issue.

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?

Well ID dont play online, so 2k trying to screw me with VC, doesnt impact me personally, because all they get from me each yr is what I pay for the standard version, but I can see why some are standing up complaining about this.
If I was a reviewer, and were to make a review right at this time, I would have to give it a low score as well, due to MyLeague and MyGM being broken, because thats the only modes I care to play.

As far as Gameplay goes, game is amazing in that regard, so if all you were to do is play play now games, you likely love this game, but I dont realy many or anyone for that matter who just plays play now against the CPU only, lol.

Seems to me now days, every game that comes out, typically needs a few patches before it really becomes playable. Sad now days this is whats its come to, compainies being able to put out games that arent a finished product, and then those who paid for the game end up being the beta testers. Honestly I wonder just how many testers these sports compaines have these days, my guess is very few, so we all end up being beta testers, that had to pay to become a beta tester, lol.

Do I think the game will be better than a 3/10, yeah, but when you have 2 of your offline modes, virtually broke and unplayable, it would be hard for me to give them to high of score.
I think eventually it will be likley a 9/10 or higher once they fix MyLeague/MyGM.

To some anything other than whining about how unfair VC is caping for 2K. Understanding business is caping for 2K. Buying VC is caping for 2K. Not caring about VC is caping for 2K. Opining about VC if without a pitchfork is caping for 2K. Simply enjoying the damn game is caping for 2K. LOL!

In order for that comparison to stand, CoD would need to focus all their attention on Zombies and make that the base mode, like 2K has for MyCareer. You do realize you have to create a darn player and play like 5 scenes to even get to the play now mode.

I get what your saying, a bit of a stretch imo.

I'm guessing something against the guidelines. I dont see why 2K would threaten them and only them when others have taken them to task over VC. The score is absurd but they are entitled to rate whatever they want for whatever reason. As for 2K, COD gets killed every year by users in comment sections and message boards. It reviews decent enough and makes a billion dollars. 2K sales have only gone up since VC was introduced. Given the uproar this year especially I'm sure 2K knows that VC has become polarizing and will tread lightly going forward.

Buying VC is totally voluntary, and 2k gives you 5k to start and you can earn additional playing multiple mode. The reviewer intent was to lower 2k overall average with a bogus score, and I am glad 2k went after them, it sets a bad precedence. Imagine gaming companies paying these small reviewers to post negative score of competitors game and offering BS reasoning for it.

I believe patches are what makes reviewing video games so difficult at or around launch. You can't give an arguably good game a high score due to bugs/glitches; however, you can't give it a poor score due to the possibility of a patch fixing the bugs/glitches.

As a side note and after being in this thread....No Man's Sky must have been one horrible video game, lol. To me, reviewers were basically saying that post-release patches couldn't save that game.

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?

Every year 2K inflates the value of VC a little bit, every year 2K reduces the amount of VC awarded and every year it feels like 2K tries to reach a little bit further making consumers pay for features.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the high-quality features of NBA 2K are probably partially due to the revenue that VC brings in as it encourages additional investment into the game. Perhaps not an additional investment in the features certain subsets of users want.

It does feel like the VC push has reached a bit of a breaking point. If the cycle continued it was inevitable that a reviewer like The Sixth Axis was going to post a very low review and if the cycle continues from here there will be more low reviews to come. Just like it's inevitable that consumers were going to get annoyed and start mass complaining about it because consumers are fickle and demanding.

Microtransactions in $60 games are a non-starter for a non-insignificant segment of the gaming community. I'm glad. If nobody takes that stand we'll be completely run over by microtransactions. It's egregious in this version of 2K but the game play is certainly outstanding.

They've definitely reached my breaking point. I love 2K and think the game play this year is great but if they don't dial it back a notch on the microtransactions going forward i won't be purchasing the game.

If this game reaches it potential, i dont think anyone will even have a need to buy the next one.. 2K19 is going to increase microtransactions and get beat by their competitor, 2K18...
