It is just the beginning unfortunately, its a symptom of I want it now and as easy as possible. It was reported that Take 2 made half a billion dollars off micro-transactions from their various games, so as long as people keep paying to upgrade their players faster companies will have a costly way to do it.

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?
I believe patches are what makes reviewing video games so difficult at or around launch. You can't give an arguably good game a high score due to bugs/glitches; however, you can't give it a poor score due to the possibility of a patch fixing the bugs/glitches.
As a side note and after being in this thread....No Man's Sky must have been one horrible video game, lol. To me, reviewers were basically saying that post-release patches couldn't save that game.
NBA2k18 devs will likley get the issues ironed out in time, and will be by far not just the best basketball game ever made, but also the best sports game ever made period. Heck gameplay wise it already is, gameplay wise it even puts MLBTS to shame, and thats saying a lot as MLBTS each year usually has great gameplay, but IMO, NBA2k the past couple yrs has past MLBTS as far as how closely it represents its respective sport. I guess FIFA could be thrown in this group probably, but Im not a huge soccer fan, so when I buy it, I dont really noticed its flaws as much as I do with Basketball,Baseball and football, since I dont know much about soccer, like I do with the other sports.
I do think the devs of NBA2k18 deserve a tip of the cap, with how good the gameplay s this yr.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?
My thoughts as well, hard to give a review nowdays, so early with all games now being basically unfinished products when 1st released. I think if they waited a 6 to 8 weeks before giving a review, that would be a much better indicator of how good a game is. Honestly most of us probably would be better off waiting 6-8 weeks before actually buying a game, due to game being unfinished products when 1st released, rather than paying to be basically beta testers, lol, but its hard to wait that long, I myself usually cant wait. And its not just NBA2k who puts out unfinished games, MLBTS also does the same thing, and these by far are the 2 best games made, as Madden pretty much sucks each yr, and why I never buy it until hearing all the flaws it has, and why Ive not bought it in probably 7yrs now.

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?
Personally, I completely UNDERSTAND the VC argument (hell I hate loot crates in COD), but it shouldn't be the main reason as to why the score should be so low. IMHO, it was a bogus score.
Yes, I recognize that there are actual bugs/glitches across various modes, but I think most of them can be addressed in a future patch.
From what I understand the reviewer has reviewed the games for a while and has complained about the VC thing. And it has gotten worse and worse every year. To where it was horrible this year. You literally can't play MyPark enjoyably without spending money. These 85+ overalls literally on every court will make you look like a joke for paying $60 at the launch of the game. And the game will tell you you suck with their teammate grade. Which makes you want to spend money on top of the $60 you just spent for the yearly game you buy every 12 months.
Would I give the game a 3? No but I get it. And even if I didn't it is not a big deal someone just has a different opinion than mines.Comment

This is one of the worst editions of the past 5 years, I give this game a 6.5 score and that is it.Last edited by alecast; 09-25-2017, 08:47 PM.Comment

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?
3 - 10 is completely unfair.
I think people are spoiled, especially basketball gamers.
The things some of the people within this community expect... When one takes them into consideration, in relation to other sport titles like Madden NFL, they are incredibly petty.
Considering how 2K market the game as one of a kind they should at least deliver good internet services, fair VC system, good creat a player feature, no issues like My Player disappearing, framerate bugs, etc, good portrayal of classic players (1/3 of them all look really bad, something I was not expecting from a company with such expertise) and so on.
These issues for me prove the game is considerably broken and leaves A LOT to be desired.
Sport titles today are generally pretty in bad shape and are usually an unfinished product but the time they debut. It is not ok to patch the game all year long if you have a good product.
I think people should reconize the game this year is far from an ideal experience. Very far.Comment

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?
Buying VC is totally voluntary, and 2k gives you 5k to start and you can earn additional playing multiple mode. The reviewer intent was to lower 2k overall average with a bogus score, and I am glad 2k went after them, it sets a bad precedence. Imagine gaming companies paying these small reviewers to post negative score of competitors game and offering BS reasoning for it.Comment

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?
purchasing vc is an option is it not? are some of the items priced too high...yes,
3/10 tho... NO. i do however dislike the delay when the ball is poked away, but still in play, the ball handler seems to not "recognize" where the ball is depending on their rating< dunno if that's a factor in this, but it's definitely weird along with the missing of point-blank range layups/or shooting wide open layups/ shots slowly which the defenders recover super fast to get a block. even still 3/10. NO.Comment

It is a fact that VC is an option. When we purchased the game, we are led to believe (by teasers, blogs, the whole marketing hoopla) that the product is shipped as a functional software. In short, that the game is playable.
Upon “opening the package”, unsuspecting gamers found they only have the “basic”, a 60 overall guy in brown shirt and can’t even pick beyond style. So as a basic product, it’s useless, a figure model that you need to “dress up” to be presentable - and playable - and hence, you “need” to PAY MORE, to PLAY NOW - in the neighborhood.
How many of you guys 60-65 overalls trying to queue (Got next!) beside credit card throwing guys (85+ overalls) and then these guys leave YOU and go as far away like you’re a disease?
Once again, we can have a long discourse of the economics of VC over beer [emoji481] and this VC and micro transactions will never disappear. Second quarter ending 30 September 2017 alone, they’re expecting net revenue of $400-450 million.
VC is a goldmine, which is respectfully optional - and the gripe remains that you purchased a basic game, and either enjoy it and grimace in misery - or buy VC and be happy.Comment

I don't think people are spoiled at all.

I get people being salty about features being bugged, but that's the nature of the times we live in.
Is 2K more bugged than other sport games? I honestly couldn't tell you because I don't play anything other than 2K.
What I can tell you is other sport games like Madden don't actually allow you to even play football. Little things like putting multiple players into motion is something that Madden has still been unable to provide the user and we are in the year 2017.
So when I hear folks whining about this game, when fundamentally speaking the game is as sound as anyone could reasonably ask, when the game even gives the users the ability to play without ever having to rely on an AI opponent/teammate for their experience, my perception is that it's petty.Comment

Re: 2k pressuring reviewers to remove low scores?
I wish more reviewers would give an honest review instead of trying to be the companies good graces.
This game is cool, gameplay is nice but the bugs and flaws all across the board are too much for a AAA game that is getting yearly releases.
Too many legacy bugs and lags and online issues that have been in the game for YEARS.
The game is a solid 5.5 to me
