    Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.

I feel like the spacing issues are due to the archetypes and combine set-up. There are only two big archetypes that have decent/reliable shooting. The others don't so you tend to need to camp at midrange. Also everybody is trying to stat-pad. So everybody is going for every board which compounds the problem. If somebody is running a playmaking Slasher and if the bigs aren't mic'd up/aware of the floor situation it's a GG towards spacing.

Everybody trying to run a free-lance offense doesn't help.

      Official 2k Combine Thread.

If you got the patience to play 40 games with one position then you need to get drafted on god lol

I lasted around 8 and had to retire this mode.

What this has shown me tho is the immense value a game mode like this could have in choosing archetypes and deciding which guy to main.

You should absolutely be able to “try out” a 88 to 90 overall guy before having to spend 50 bucks on a guy. I know some ppl who spent their preorder VC on a guy and a week later found out they HATED HIM and made another one and spent ANOTHER 50.

A game mode like this with ALL archetypes available would’ve helped me because my first ever guy was a 6’ 10” playmaking post scorer, who i got really good with but all things considered was pretty useless.

This idea needs to be expanded on and the idea of tracking advanced stats needs to finally be introduced in the Park. Players with great advanced stats could be marked with a star or something

Guys like you are super rare in this combine, as I've only played with 3 stretch bigs in 28 games (PF or C), and one of them immediately swore off the archetype after he kept getting "white" meter releases and ended up making around 3 of his 10 open threes.

My original plan was to play 40 games as a sharpshooting shot creator SF and 40 games as a two way stretch PF, but I don't know if I'll be able to get that second set of 40 games in with so many of my games not officially counting.

Exactly why they WON'T be adding this, as sad as it sounds! Personally paid $60 for the disc, $100 for the VC, another $50 for my younger brother to play. $160 profit and multiply that by the amount of people that does the same? The XMas profit? Man that's good business but terrible for the consumer.

I have to say that 2k choices about available archetypes in the combine make sense.

They excluded any type of point forward, because he would have been pretty useless since the designated ball handler has to be the PG.

They excluded any archetype with defender as secondary, because probably he would have been selected by a LOT of people, with a LOT of steal spamming.

They limited the types of strechting 4 and 5, for avoiding the 3pt feast you usually find in pro-am

Is it true that point guards can not change defensive match-ups like they do in pro-am/walk-on?

Sadly you can't. I'd put the defensive wings on the point guard and hide myself on a wing if we were allowed to change mathups. It's smarter to have cross matchups then to play positions straight up

                  Three thoughts:

                  1. If you assume your goal is to make it to the 2k league, and the games won't start because there are no PFs, and when you get into a game the games are poorly spaced due to both bigs camping in the paint... wouldn't the most logical thing be picking PF and spacing the floor correctly? Not only as a stretch, but actually using IQ w/ another archetype? You could also assume that there might be an actual shortage of PFs for the league, so you might actually make it.

                  2. Yes, make this a game mode.

                  3. You can tell a lot about someone by watching how they play. I would focus on adapting to the situation and making the right play instead of getting frustrated that you can't showcase your skillz. You have a set situation in each game, all you can do is perform as well as you can given those limitations.

Well, it doesn't make any sense, because without switching there's little point to take defensive first characters.
Half of my games with def+3pt sg I was guarding an opponent with the same archetype, but sharpshooting wings from both sides kept draining threes against each other.

I haven't come across any Stretch rim protectors yet. That's the only shooting archetype in the PF build. Everybody is using a slashing build at the 4 and 5 which is making it tough on a lot of PG's. Also gotta realize majority of the players in the combine don't have the IQ to space the floor or fill lanes correctly. If 2k can draft from this setup they are not human at all lol.

I don't recall what this one PF's archetype/number I ran with was, but I have to assume his was a stretch rim protector. I had no problem passing to him, but he had to go 1 for 8 from deep, if not worse. He got pretty much iced out by everyone else. I mean it is aggravating seeing someone brick wide open shots, but I've missed my fair share of dunks/layups in traffic during the combine, so I get it.

Sadly, a lot of people in this will say "You're trash, stop shooting" instead of encouraging the person to find their rhythm.

But you can also kind of tell if people start freaking out and forcing up bad shots because they just want to see one go in.

Didn't hate myself enough to do 50 random walk-ons in Jan, how is the connection for the 2K league?

2K has always felt like my ping is somewhere between 200-300ms, very sluggish and unresponsive. Typically I can play Siege or BF1 (and other games) online and my ping is in the low 30s

I'm curious to hear some feedback on this too. I was on a hotel connection (which wasn't bad) for the Saturday/Sunday combine and I had a noticeable delay. I don't know if it was the connection or just the combine itself. I'm hoping tomorrow will be much better since I'll be home and on really good internet.

Why can't you talk to the PG and switch matchups? I assume you are just taking the direct matchup the game is giving you. Could you turn off the defensive help arrow and D up on who you need to?
