Maybe I'm not understanding your statement, but With DLC, MUT, MY TEAMS, Diamond Dynasty, ect. companies are looking for revenue streams, seems like early adopters fit that niche as well.

I guess what I'm not understanding is the sentiment expressed in this thread like people are being penalized cause they can't get it early; Like the company is somehow doing you dirty cause you can't play it early at regular price.

2K took a chance by changing the early play to the more expensive edition and their has been a pretty negligible amount of push back from fans, so it is hard to fault them.

2k is so bad for doing this, but the people paying for it are worse.

No. The people paying for it are doing and getting exactly what they want. 2K, like any business, is just accommodating it. There is no "good guy" or "bad guy" here. Why shame people for spending their money how they want?

And it still managed to sell 9 million copies and make more than the previous year. The market has clearly spoken. They should abandon that though because people are sick (not enough to stop playing or spending) of "greedy" companies that exist to make money.

Re: NBA 2K19 - Playing Four Days Early Only Achievable From $99.99 Anniversary Editio

I don't think it's a good look for 2K that I was just reading a few weeks ago, an interview with Take-Two's CEO talking about learning from their mistakes with the microtransactions and the backlash the game got last year for the money-grabbing direction consumers are saying they're going in to come out with a decision like this. Now if doing this was the trade off to scaling back the VC throughout the game in a major way, then I'm all for it. But if we've still got the same VC riddled mess that the game has become over the years, plus doing stuff like this, that's a really bad look for the company IMO.

Here's some of Strauss Zelnick's comments from an interview at E3 last month.

"Unquestionably we pay attention to consumer response because we’re so focused on engaging and captivating and entertaining the consumer," Zelnick said. "Any time we get feedback that is anything less than 1,000-percent positive, we stop and say, what should we do differently? I think there’s a small sliver of the consumer base that basically wants everything for free, we can’t really help those people. I think most consumers just want a fair deal and we do think that part of a fair deal is, you know when you get the check at the end of the meal, it’s not enough that the food tasted good, it has to be a fair deal for what you got. So we’re very focused on it being more than a fair deal; we want to give consumers much more than they paid for."

"We do learn every time and we have to balance monetization with the experience," Zelnick emphasized. "In our case, we sort of all regrouped and said, wait, let’s remind ourselves that we’re in the business of creating the best entertainment on Earth, across all types of entertainment. We’re focused on engaging and captivating consumers. If we do that right and that’s our entire focus, the revenues and the profits will probably take care of themselves, so let’s not overemphasize those. So I’m asking questions now like does big data and having lots of data scientists on your team allow you to enhance your monetization? And the answer is, technically I suppose that would be the case, but are you a monetization company or are you an entertainment company? We’re an entertainment company and when we get that right, everything else flows from it."

Your not actually getting the 20th anniversary edition 4 days early, you would just be getting the standard edition 4 days late if you went that route.. Live releases on the 7th as well, and thats likely the earliest date the NBA gave them for release. EA is doing this nonsense with Madden as well.
It is sad that the obvious money grab is in full effect. I have EVERY single installment of 2K and would usually not think twice about day 1 purchase but I'm grabbin LIVE 19 on the 7th. This will be the 1st time in a while that did this. Yes I'll have both regardless but 2K is making it way to easy to choose.

The list is longer, all you have to do is play offline on a difficulty higher than Allstar against another user and the game shows its face

Exactly! If they're doing something people don't like, don't buy the game and the market will correct itself, period. If that 9 million sold goes down to 6-7 million, then they'll have to evaluate things to determine what's happened.

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Dude why would you do that, why would you pay 40 $ extra to play the game 4 days before the official release date. You can buy another game for 40 $. And don't you know that there is going to be a day 1 patch and that the game is probably going to have certain problems that are going to take some time to get fixed.

I mean it's your wallet, do what you want to do, but I just don't understand it.

Why don't you ask the people who pay $800 to $1200 to play Call of Duty early?

We've seen people on this very site sell those games for that much money and we don't need the pocket watcher patrol trying to tell people what to do.

People do what they want to do with their money, why do you care?

because someone buying this for the four day early release has terrible impulse control. i mean, how bad do you have to be to pay an extra forty bucks for something you can have four days later. i just think it'd absolutely ridiculous unless you're a teenager. even if i were a millionaire i still wouldn't do it just for the principle.

I’m not going to judge others but I’ve always had the following impression.

I think it’s a combination of various factors. One, impulse control along with the brand new smell. Two, a reflection of the previous title. If a sports title can’t hold my interest until the next iteration is officially released, that says a lot about the quality of that game. A great game should be able to hold me over.

I stopped playing 2k18 after a few weeks (too easy on HOF, CPU defense was lacking), and then intermittently only a few more times over the past year. I have no intention on getting 2k19 until transition and pick/roll defense improves, dare I say fixed. 2k18 could very well be my last 2k basketball game. They said the focus for 2k19 was defense; I’ll see if it lives up to that.

I’ll wait for real video evidence; written reviews are cheap. I don’t trust written reviews anymore. Show me it’s been fixed.
