Not publishing my attributes but I have Ayton at 84 OVR.

That makes more sense to me than having him come in lower than T.J. Warren (81).

84? This man has not played a lick of pro ball and you have him rated at 84?! Dude didn’t even dominate the summer league!

College production and scouting reports are unquantifiable now?

        He didn't?

He's polished and skilled. Compare this to tape of Jahlil Okafor if you want to see why I don't have a problem starting Ayton mid-high.

He didn't dominate at all, not in one matchup, Wendell Carter from the Bulls looked like a better player.

84 is way too high for somebody who hasn’t even played a pre season against actual NBA players.

Even using Summer League as a reference point, dudes have destroyed the Summer League and not transitioned well into the NBA at all.

For what it’s worth, 81 for Warren is about right and should make him the Suns second best player.

              1. Ayton averaged 15/11 in Summer League. Carter averaged 15/9. Of course if Summer League ACTUALLY mattered then Anthony Randolph would be MVP by now.

              2. An NCAA season is a wee larger sample than 100 summer league minutes. Ayton averaged 20/12 on 61% shooting in college, to Carter's 14/9 on 56%. Ayton is bigger (3 inches) and the better interior player, which is what the Center OVR cares about.

              3. Math time. In NCAA Carter committed 24 more fouls than Ayton despite playing 180 fewer minutes.
Ayton committed 2.4 fouls per 36 minutes.
Carter committed 3.8 fouls per 36 minutes. Against college athletes, where you foul out at five.
One of these players is a man ready for high-level NBA defense.

              4. Carter would likely register an 80+ rating from me. The average starting Center is an 82-83 Overall. He's a good player, and likely supplants Robin Lopez, but we're talking about a player who went 1st for a reason.

Warren is a SF yet hit only 22% of his threes last season, and is 79-283 (28%) over four seasons. He is garbo.

Having a three ball isn’t a prerequisite for a small forward though. It helps, but he’s a near 50% overall shooter and put up 20/5 last season. If that’s not deserving of a 81 overall then I don’t see how Ayton is an 84 with slightly better scoring at a much lower level.

                        He looks great tho.
Why? Ratings are based off attributes not what number you think is appropriate based off some idea that rookies shouldn't be rated so highly

Ayton is touted as a generational big with a monstrous frame, low post skills, shooting touch, and athleticism. There's nothing wrong with a 79 based off his projected skillset, he mostly struggles with intangibles like motor and consistency and his defensive play.

Blake, AD, and Simmons all had very good rookie seasons, definitely performed to higher overalls than the ones you gave them. Ayton will start at a 79 based off his projection, if he struggles it'll go down during the season if he doesn't it'll go up. It's that simple.

20/5 on a lottery team with middling efficiency is as fools' gold as it gets.

No 3pt shot? Maybe if you're a big hitting 55-60% of your twos. As a wing in the modern NBA? Death sentence.

Warren's shooting percentage doesn't matter. He can't play off the ball and isn't a good enough featured scorer to run it through him. The better his teammates are, the worse he gets.

His rebound rate is likewise subpar so you can't even really run him as a small four. His ratings are all fluff and they definitely fudged a few to keep his OVR high.

Rashidi speaking facts. People are distracted/conditioned by the shiny OVR numbers.

We've been told for so many years that rookies HAVE to be in the 70's.

Who says a rookie can't come in mid-80's if he is that impactful of a player?

He was the number one overall pick. Do you understand how historically few #1 picks don't enter that top bracket of players (rookie season included)?

It also isn't the top bracket of players when the average starting center is an 82.
