NBA 2K19 Arcetype Takeover Abilities (what we know so far)
Seems like they are returning to this
On 18 whenever i see a two way or a lock i don’t give a single crap
In 17 i remember seeing locks and being like “hey guys try not to pass me the ball, i don’t wanna get spammed.” Lol a good lockdown in 17 was just a monster.

Lmao all the people saying they are gonna pick defenders are probably trash at defense to begin with. You dont ever EVER EVER need a lockdown defender if you already know how to play defense. People will only choose it to spam the steal button every time just so they can get a freebie steal smh..Comment

I consider myself a good defender irl and I think I understand that part of the game more than offense. Throughout my early years playing basketball I was always the one guarding opponent's best players. Because of how much pride I put in that part of the game I would always put defender as a type. If I buy the game I'll make playmaker defender pgComment

Re: NBA 2K19 Arcetype Takeover Abilities (what we know so far)
Gary Payton - defender/playmaker
Kawhi - defender/shot creator
Beverly - defender/sharp
Bradley - same
Iggy - 2way slasher
Chandler - 2way rebounder
Maybe not online but you could put up the same stats or better for each player in career. I wish you could add a 3rd archetype to be able to replicate their skills, but those players you'd have to throw in a second archetype to play like them. You can't be pure lock down and expect to be banging 3s.
Since when Rondo is a "pure" lockdown ?
All these guys have pretty much the same defensive attributes despite their specialization
For ex, Iguodola got better onball D, picknroll and Help D, lateral quickness, steal than MKG
Please don't put words in my mouth, nobody is talking bout banging 3's except you.
We just need better speed with ball, ball control ( without being Kyrie ) or maybe seperate ball security from playmaking etc
+As a LLD Point Guard, give me a decent open shot midrange instead of very high 96 low post defense, 78 strength, 94 vertical, 94 blockLast edited by Nwordbelike; 08-18-2018, 02:34 AM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K19 Arcetype Takeover Abilities (what we know so far)
I’d assume it would have to be after the ball hits the rim right? To avoid it being INSANELY OP. Then just because you know where it’s going, doesn’t mean it’s an auto board. You still have to box out. I think it won’t be OP. It’ll help the great rebounders be legendary and it’ll probably turn crappy rebounders decent. There were a LOT of BAD rebounders in 18 who chose glass cleaner that i outreboubded with my pure post

I’m REALLY curious to see if this is actually useful in practice. I’ve seen a lot of guys get good rebounding numbers simply by jumping the second the ball hits the rim without even waiting to see where it’s going. I’m not sure how knowing the ball is going to the left side of the hoop is going to help me if a 7’3 giant snags it the instant it comes off the rim.Comment

First, I’ll say, I don’t like the idea of badges.
However, I think a good way to separate the same arch’s from each other and to provide more freedom and diversity, could be to allow you to select arch’s for badges and attribute maxes only.
For example, say that I wanted to be a post scoring defender.
I would select this combo and this would give me my badges, badge caps, and a broader selection of attribute caps.
I would be given the freedom of building my attributes as I want them to be.
Example, let’s just say that my post scoring could max out at a 95, low post defense max of 90, rebounding max 85 (I feel off/def rebs should be separate, but that’s another story), and strength 90.
If I wanted those things to reach their maximum caps, I would have to forfeit being able to max out speed, ball control, vertical, on ball d, passing, pick setting (a rating that should exist), etc, etc.
Basically, give us freedom to create and diversify our players more broadly.
Let’s say that I wanted to lower my post scoring to 80 so I would still be effective, but not as dominant in the post.
And instead of being dominate in the post, I wanted to have better on ball d or ball handling.
If I chose to put those attribute points on on ball d and defense is in my arch, I could raise my on ball d from a standard 60 to a max 75 at one attribute point per anything over the 60 standard.
If I chose to put them on ball handling and ball handling is not part of my skill set, it could cost double attribute points to reach the max. So I could get to the 60 standard cap at one point a piece, but to get to the max it’s two points for anything over 60.
So, if I lower my post scoring to 80 from 95, I could roughly get my ball handling to a 70.
This type of freedom would greatly increase the diversity in builds and give us more control over how we want our player to play.
Additionally, you could do something similar with badges.
Let’s say I’m ok with dropping brick wall from gold to silver, so that I can raise hustle rebounder from bronze to silver.
If I wanted to raise a badge that is outside my skill set, it would cost double the badge amount.
So I could lower brick wall and charge card from gold and silver and raise dimer (which I think post scores should at least bronze) from bronze to silver.
Or, if there’s a badge that you don’t have, you could lower a badge twice or lower two badges to be able to get whatever badge to bronze.
The numbers I used are just for number sake to give examples and the ideas are just that.

Re: NBA 2K19 Arcetype Takeover Abilities (what we know so far)
Exactly, we should have something like 5 to 10 attributes upgrades and 1 badge upgrade that we can use how we want regardless the archetype. Put these custom upgrades among the bonuses you unlock after hitting 90 ovr, and everybody wins.Comment

Re: NBA 2K19 Arcetype Takeover Abilities (what we know so far)
I shouldn't only be able to get contacts if I'm hot. If that's the case, then the first time i dunk around or through minimal contact then my bar should be pretty full. Slashers NEED the ability to heat up faster than anyone on the floor. Sure, it could go both ways. If i get blocked early that could throw me off a bit. But shaking off a defender and meeting someone 1 on 1 at the basket, unless they're a defender, or a defender out of position, i need to win that match up most of the time.
This is where we differ
Weight and height should make a difference. If we’re 1 on 1 at the rim and I’m 340 pounds 7 foot 3 i should win 9/10 times
It would widen the skill gap. Good slashers would have to look at their opponents and gauge if they can go at someone for a dunk.
But with this system bigs would actually have to be in position
If I’m on the side coming over late i should get postered

As a dude who plays decent defense not elite i will say going defender was NEEDED this year in the post because as a rim protector dunk animations wouldn’t even trigger against me. No matter what i did i just could not keep dunk animations from happening against me on my pure post. Shot contests are an important thing too. My pure rim rarely gets contested shots splashed in my face. Obviously i give up 3s because i can’t keep up with everyone around screens but if I’m there i never got the feeling like ppl got bailed out. And that was ONLY on my pure rim protector.
Just because most bums go spam crazy doesn’t mean lockdown isn’t a skillful build. I think the standing dunk animations were the reason why there was such an influx of two way builds at center near the end of this 2k18 year. You just couldn’t get enough stops unless you had gold rim protector. I mean look at how centers played in the 2k league. It was pure trash. Guys pump faking until 2k rewarded then the animation. It made me sick. There should be some skill to getting standing dunk animations. In 2k18 there just isn’t

Guess your girl is making a Playmaking Slasher again. Do I do the 1 this year though? Tough call. Need evidence of ratings first

Re: NBA 2K19 Arcetype Takeover Abilities (what we know so far)
We should get the gameplay blog next week, hopefully.
But this makes me have to be sure of my Primary build. Only way I'm grinding to 94, is if Im only doing 1 build. If I only do 1 build, I want him to be able to be an all around player. But have to be certain of primary build. The takeover ability I like the most is LockDown. But hopefully Lockdown isn't nerfed as much as last year. So if I do a shoot secondary, I would be happy with a mid 80s cap. That way I would confident not needing a HOF Dimer teammateComment
