You are absolutely wrong. There is zero question that it takes time and resources to implement any feature. You guys are drastically underestimating the resources needed for this. Adding appropriate lines of commentary alone is a fairly significant resource expenditure.

The question is whether or not it is a worthwhile investment and guess what? People are allowed to have differing opinions on it without being labeled a sexist or an idiot

It definitely does take some time and resources, which is why my follow-up question is: what is the NBA game missing out on due to 2K spending time on adding WNBA (in whatever capacity it is)?

And the answer to that question right now (since no details have been released) is...nothing. We know of absolutely no negative effects of adding WNBA. Yet some (again with no info yet either way), are convinced that this addition must mean that the aspects of the game that they do play have been ignored and are missing something.

2K is praised year after year for, unlike other sports games, touching on and adding to just about every aspect of their game. Why wouldn't that expectation continue?

Exactly. People keep saying it’s a waste of time, but what time is being wasted? What is being taken away? They refine gameplay throughout the year with patches, they add content to the online modes throughout the year, they have already added the CBA changes to MyLeague and MyGM, outside of changing career mode and maybe some tuning to contracts/trades I don’t see what else people think this time was spent on. The rookie scans? Rookie commentary? The developers working on this are almost assuredly not also writing and recording voice lines for the commentators. I want the people saying ‘wasted time and resources’ to tell me exactly what they think that time and resources should be spent on. What is it you think 2K could do with that, that is going to be drastically worse or not implemented due to them adding the WNBA? It’s 12 teams. TWELVE. They have how many classic teams that HAVE SPECIFIC COMMENTARY? That have FACE SCANS? Gimme a freaking break.

As an aside, this is happening because Live added the WNBA teams. That means Live’s decision pushed 2K to do something new. Isn’t that what we want? 2K trying new things because of competition?

You’re right. We will be in a better position to answer that follow up question upon game release.

Both sides to the argument tend to take extreme positions. Some act as if the inclusion means other areas will be neglected (most assuredly not the case) but others act as if merely questioning the inclusion makes one a sexist idiot. Also not the case.

Perhaps you don’t realize it but you are doing the exact thing smashman is criticizing others for. We do not know where resources are being diverted from to include these teams. We cannot answer your question until we have the finished product. If smashman wants to say we cannot use this line of argument against the inclusion, then we also cannot use it in favor of either.

As for your rebuttal to my commentary example, I’m sorry for being blunt but I wonder if you understand the development process. No, those coders are not writing and recording the lines. The voice talent is. Typically voice talent is paid on a per word basis or by recording hour. Hours spent recording lines for WNBA equals less hours for lines elsewhere in the game. I’d love to have more playoff specific commentary in my league.

The 12 WNBA teams are not the same as classic teams. Classic teams can use same assets from the core of the game (modified retro jerseys). WNBA jerseys cannot, meaning graphic artists have to devote time to creating those jerseys. The game could come with 12 additional premade expansion teams for my league.

I’ll repeat myself one more time, there is nothing wrong with people having differing opinions as to whether or not WNBA inclusion is worthwhile. That is what the question is. Spare me your give me a break routine just because someone’s opinion differs from yours.

My own aside, people said basically the same thing about whether or not Maddens longshot mode was a worthwhile addition.

People are going to complain about “mah simulation” with women at the park. They’re going to want to be able to do 360 between the legs dunks with a 6’1” white point guard without female players killing the immersion

If you read the opinions of the people in this thread do you really think they care? These people seem to believe that the base game itself is suffering because of the inclusion of the WNBA and IDK bout you, but I know that ain't the case cause it is never the case when things like this, or the Euro teams, or classic teams are included. It takes time and resources, it certainly doesn't take as much as the people so against this want to believe.

I don’t think it is worth the effort to implement. Even those who are WNBA fans and would love to play as one of those teams will quickly get bored of only having play now games.

To make it worthwhile for those fans you would need to have full feature support. And at that point it without question becomes not worth the effort.

I give it 2 years before they are removed from the game due to lack of support and usage

I'm very happy to hear that this is finally included in 2K. As far as the hate goes all I can do is shake my head at that. Shake my head at people saying nonsense like 2k (or some other company) should just make a separate game for the WNBA.

Why? so you can look at it on the shelve at the store or on the PSN/XBOX digital menu and chuckle as you scroll/walk by it to buy whatever else you're shopping for? Nah man. That's not good for business, and at the end of the day most people who've been buying NBA 2k before will buy it again to keep right on playing the modes that they've been playing all along.

Yall complaining about resources being wasted and acting like so much needs to be done that couldn't possibly be focused on because of this WNBA inclusion. It's all untrue excuses. Like others have said in this topic, the WNBA is apart of the NBA. Has always been since the very first tip off. Why else do you think the NBA would allow it to have "NBA" as part of its name with the W in the front. You want to complain about something let's talk about My Park. Whens the last time NBA players went to playgrounds to play street hoops? They don't, but it's in the game because that's just what it is. A video game.

WNBA players have been featured in NBA Allstar weekend for over 10 years now, and have even been featured in other Official NBA Basketball games before even NBA live included it. NBA Street Volume 2 had the option for us to create female players for the story mode and its still one of the most popular Basketball games to ever come out. NBA Streets after that one have also had actual WNBA players.

Anyway like I said, I'm looking forward to giving this a shot. I hope that 2k has the female My player/Park option for those who want to buy this game so they can use it. I'd also be down to try out a My League. If it's only 12 teams so what? This is a video game. A game that has already had tons of customization so all this mode needs is those options. The ability to create new teams in the video game. Ability to create new players to put on said custom teams. I hope Legends like Lisa Leslie, Cynthia Cooper, Rebecca Lobo, etc are in too along with the rest of their teammates to add even more options for all of these WNBA included modes. Everything starts somewhere and I'm looking forward to watching the WNBA keep improving along with everything else featured in the upcoming installments of this series.

Yeah this news doesn’t move the needle for me one way or the other. Do I think the time is better spent on other things? Yeah, but not to the extent that it will noticeably lessen the quality of the overall product

You’re saying you think the time used on the WNBA is poorly spent. You’re saying you know the way the development process goes and are insinuating that the inclusion of the WNBA will hamper it. Final thoughts: This thread is ridiculous. The naysayers have no legitimate reasoning behind being so negative on this. You’re making grandiose assumptions about the playerbase, you’re speculating how much time the playerbase will actually play with these teams, you’re attacking the development process for even using the time or resources to include it without ANY insider knowledge on 2K’s developmental cycle, or where else the money/time would have gone to, you’re also just flat out attacking the inclusion of a league you are not fans of, and the people who support the inclusion. It’s in the game. You’ll still buy the game, you’ll still play the hell out of it, you’ll still love it, and the inclusion of the WNBA will not affect you. It is for those who care, those who are curious, and for attracting new players to the game who are more invested in the WNBA. Yes, those people exist, regardless of your claims. Also, to pretend sexism plays NO ROLE in at least some portion of negative opinions on the very simple inclusion of teams that you don’t have to use AT ALL, is the height of naivety. No one complained this much about the inclusion of a vast amount of historic teams that nobody uses. No one complained this much about the inclusion of dozens of EuroLeague teams that were rarely used.
