Re: NBA 2K20 Will Feature the WNBA
You’re still missing the point entirely. You're focusing way too much on the what which turns it into an opinion rather than a discussion.
Keep in mind, I’m a very neutral third party who was only drawn here as a moderator due to the nature of the thread so I have no dog in the fight.
There has been a lot of ludicrous arguments made why it shouldn’t be in the game but there has been one fair question asked that is okay to discuss and that is does it affect development time?
That is the only thing that you aren’t addressing.
If you would spend more time debating why you think extra dev time is either worth it or negligible rather than weakly insulting someone who disagrees with you, you would come off as much more of voice to listen to.
Right now you just come off as agree with me or I’m taking my ball and going home.

I'm super hype about it. I'm happy that I may actually be able to be myself. There's a lot more female gamers than people think that play 2k.Female Russell Westbrook.

NBA 2K20 Will Feature the WNBA
I don’t think too many people would object in that scenario. That’s my point.
When NCAA introduced the mascot game a lot people opined that time could be spent elsewhere. No one objected and said what you guys are saying here. The logic should be the same.
Instead of 2k announcing the WNBA if they announced a mascot challenge you probably would not mind if people said what I’m saying. But because there is a possibility that sexism is at play, we aren’t allowed to to express valid criticisms.
Leaving out the context is disingenuous. Mascot Challenge is nothing, a silly game between guys in oversized suits. The WNBA is a league of hard working and talented women that has actual meaning to a lot of people, regardless of what you think. They’re not really comparable features in terms of what they bring to the table, in my opinion.
I understand you’re going for a ‘They both take time’ angle here, but I think there could be much better examples because I just think the impact of a real league of hard working talented women is on an entirely different level than a funny game type intended to make people chuckle, and that needs to be factored. Still, I firmly believe this will have little to no impact on the overall game and I think using that assumption as a source of outrage is absolutely ridiculous. I also think, again, if it wasn’t a women’s basketball league, the outrage would be lessened. I’m not saying everyone who disagrees with its implementation is sexist, but I think it plays a role in the quick dismissal of it. More on a subconscious level.
But yes, to your point, I wouldn’t care this much if people were outraged about the implementation of mascot mode. Because it has no real world impact or importance. The WNBA means something. It means something to women, to little girls across the country, to fans. It’s progress. Which, based on this thread, we very obviously need.Last edited by GoDucks1224; 07-08-2019, 09:17 PM.Comment

Lol, going in circles. So here’s the thing. I physically cannot understand why you, or anyone, is against the inclusion of 12 teams in a league associated with the NBA. Your first reaction to seeing this news is ‘Wow what a waste of time and resources.’ But you have zero reasoning for this logic to be applied. There has been zero information about this game other than the cover athlete, and the WNBA being included. You do not know how much this cost, how much time was dedicated to it, how much it pulled away from other aspects of the game if at all, you do not know the size of the development team, there are a multitude of things you do not have any information on. Yet your FIRST reaction is to complain about it. To belittle it. To argue to death why it’s bad for the game. Why? Please provide me a concise list of reasons for why the inclusion of 12 teams is a net negative for this game. Please provide me with indisputable evidence that rationalizes this outrage. None of you dissenters have given anything. You’ve only speculated, and made assumptions, without any quantifiable proof. How about you wait till the game releases before you bemoan the inclusion of 12 teams, less than 200 players, which could simply end up being confined to Play Now. Pardon me for choosing not to be a cynic, who assumes that the inclusion of these 12 teams, will somehow be the downfall of the NBA2K franchise as we know it. As I stated before, if the game comes out and is terrible, I’ll happily admit the WNBA inclusion may have been a factor. But as it stands, the outrage around this is absolutely ludicrous. And you know what.. Yes, frankly I do have a problem with people disagreeing with its inclusion, simply because I cannot find any valid reasoning, or logic, within your arguments. ‘Time and resources’ is nothing but a hollow couple of words until you have something of actual substance to use as an example of why this is problematic. A comparison to ‘mascot mode’ is not one. The inclusion of women in the game, and a league directly affiliated with the NBA, cannot be anything but a net positive in my mind. Inclusion, progress, potential sales boost, the possibility of women being able to play as an avatar that they feel suits them more in Park/Neighborhood. I’m sorry, but I just fail to see the negative in it. There is no logical reason for me to do so at this time.
Go ahead and question it, that’s your right. But I will never agree with you. I will never understand your logic. I will never understand jumping to conclusions, making grandiose assumptions, assertions, insinuations, and then being outraged by them. I flat out think you’re wrong, and arguing against the inclusion of women with no tangible reasoning, just absolutely does not seem right to me. Morally, or otherwise.Last edited by GoDucks1224; 07-09-2019, 05:38 AM.Comment

Who cares? Your argument isn’t that people won’t play with the teams, your argument is that it’s inclusion is bad for the game overall.
Whether or not how active a thread about the WNBA teams included in the game is irrelevant

2K’s gaming community expands well outside of OS.
I don’t think you can fairly judge the failure or success of any given mode simply by how it’s viewed on OS.

That’s the point you’ve been trying to make this whole team? Saying it’s bad for the game, arguing about time and resources, making up statistics and assumptions about the development team and process. This entire time your point was... People on OS won’t discuss it regularly? People won’t play it regularly? Wow, man. Nice. At least we got to the heart of it. I’m glad you’re so concerned how other people are playing 2K.
Not to mention that OS is a tiny sliver of the overall 2K community. It’s the most played sports game today. (Besides FIFA for the obvious reason that soccer is the most played sport globally.)Last edited by GoDucks1224; 07-09-2019, 06:55 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K20 Will Feature the WNBA
I will likely play with WNBA teams for 1-2 hours. I sit in the boat that hopes not a ton of resources were pumped into this. Why? WNBA just is not popular at all. The WNBA finals see ratings around 0.5. 150,000-300,000 people at most are tuning in to watch the championship games for the league. The numbers tell the story, relative to the NBA nobody cares about the WNBA. Relative to other sports nobody really cares about the WNBA. It's cool that the fans of the league get the ability to play the game, but when you look at the demand, it really isn't there. Even college baseball has more viewers than the WNBA, but nobody will tell you the demand for a college baseball game is there.
If this was an easy addition and didn't really take too much dev time away from other areas of the game, no biggie. If this was the main focus and had a good chunk of resources pumped into it then you gotta wonder what analytics were the driving force behind the decision because the league's popularity was definitely not it.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
