I was complaining about the slower jumpshots earlier in one of these threads but looking at it from this perspective, he's right and I agree.

My only problem is as a MyTeam player I hope I don't have to see guys like Shaq running around with HOF Quickdraw, yuck.

At the rim it's much better if your doing vertical contest.

I’ve not done much hands up defense so far in the demo.
It actually seems even less responsive the 19, so I usually go for the block since my ratings are 85-90 depending on the build.

I'm wondering how much Steady Shooter helps, if at all, for lightly contested shots. If it makes minimal difference on lightly contested, I'll probably just skip out on this badge and focus those points on something else (or potentially redistribute those badge points into one of the other 3 categories).
I will skip out on it. I usually don't take contested 3s like that, only lightly. That badge seems to be for those who like taking contested 3s. Main reason I would have that badge is for closing shots or if I want to pair it up with Space Creator.

If you have this dumb stuff in the game at least tell us exactly what it does

FWIW, this guy on Reddit did an unscientific test for it:

            https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA2k/comme..._shooter_test/

Looks like basically, gold steady shooter = +10% on contested shots, -4% on open shots. Idk about the other levels.

Thanks for the info. I know 2k labs will be doing some work too, but it's just annoying we need to look at that instead of it just being shown with the badge.

Sometimes the way it is going I feel like people aren't going to be happy until it's 10 guys shooting uncontested warm up jumpers, and whoever makes the most wins.

Hands up defense isnt really a thing and should only truly be used when you think they're about to shoot.

I'm confused too bruh....Sure the best use of "Hands Up" is right as the shot goes up, but its also a perfect way to counter the up/under and to get in position to draw a charge if guys are over aggressive. Hopefully we'll also see it used to crowd guys and trigger the "Hands up Contain" you see below on guys being static or when we force pickups in the future.

I would assume the poster that responded to you was talking about perimeter players driving to the paint are not bothered much by hands up only defense. which they shouldnt be. standing around with your hands up should affect role players going to the rim. not stars. and most of our my players are stars once they get into the high 80's.

Now that hands up defense worked too well and was overpowered vs other bigs that were not post scorers. this is IF you both were in the paint and the guy was posting you up.

So im getting the feeling that defense is gonna work like this....
Perimeter defense and interior defense are NOT On Ball D and Post D, but shot contest ratings for perimeter and interior. On Ball D will be lateral quickness combined with the Clamps badge to determine the ability to prevent blow bys by being more sticky the higher the badge. Post D will be controlled by the Post Lock badge.

Btw, I'm talking about NBA ratings and gameplay here. It's a simplified system, but I'd have to see more examples of different levels of defenders in game before I pass judgment and become alarmed at it being too simplified.

Are you guys seeing it the same way thus far?

FWIW, Acceleration was more important than Lateral Quickness for “perimeter on-ball defense” in 2K19. I’d expect that to still be the case in 2K20 based on the demo.

The move to Badges is highly concerning. It seems dumbed down to me, but I’ll reserve judgment until the game drops. They could find a balance between the defensive attributes and badges through patches as well.

Exactly. Mitchell Robinson is elite at shot contests on the perimeter (both by metrics and eye test) and yet he’s not a good perimeter on-ball defender. What should his Perimeter/On-Ball Defense rating be based on in 2K20?

I appreciate Mike tweeting out responses to questions, but we’ve been asking for more transparent about these attribute, badge, tendency, and slider definitions for a decade now. 80 new badges and attribute removals add more confusion about how the game works. What does it do in-game? What stats does it impact in the sim engine?
