ngl. not keen on this approach - i think it feels opportunistic, cheap and misjudged.

i really hope they prove me wrong, and its not like i'm expecting anything of quality from MyCareer stories, but if I'm playing a game and there is a story, please don't force me to make decisions that aren't related to basketball and also don't do the complexities of sacrifice justice.

if they throw 2 fingers at the NCAA i can stomach that, if they just try and make it about personal accountability against a single figure of oppression, they can miss me with this.

(still gonna play but still hoping all scenes are skippable)
I think that's exactly what you'll get. There's no way they would actually make a political statement or even a statement against the NCAA.

They're sticking with the "more than an athlete" message but it still has to be palatable for this platform. "Standing up" for your injured buddy or whatever isn't comparable to what the real Che did, but it's still a positive message. Can't be mad at that.
Did this dude just did this?

      ?Bold prediction here -
VC is back and more VC-ier than ever!!

In a gaming landscape where microtransactions and loot boxes are generally seen as unacceptable, I don't understand how NBA 2k gets a pass every year (especially considering how slimy they are in their past games).

As long as there is no token female Asian friend screaming in every cutscene, I'm good. I kinda long for a more traditional MyCareer where you can kind of decide your own fate after a brief stint in the NCAA or abroad. Maybe in the future we can decide how to develop our personality and such. I feel it would be a welcomed addition if it's possible. PS5 goals?

It's called "alienating half your potential audience."

I don't want to be lectured about how evil I am for not doing enough.

All that does is detract from what may well be a very solid game.

There's a reason MLB stays out of this entirely.

Why would half of an audience be alienated? What are you even upset about? Is it use of the phrase "social issues"? That could mean a lot of different things.

And yes, there are a few reasons why MLB is able to "stay out of" the discussion on current issues. Not sure what that has to do with NBA 2k20.

thats why i'm mad at it.

coz its a thing thats so not it but yet, i "can't be mad at that"

thats why 'standing up for what you believe in' means less - coz me choosing to recycle can now be seen as me taking a stance against our global waste problem when really its one small step towards a much larger, important issue that we should all do something about.

                  thing i'm intrigued by...

is when will 2k start letting us make choices?

like in 2k16 i was so mad that i couldn't cut my homie off. dude was so annoying and was trying to ruin my career, i'd have cut that weasel out as soon as the GM mentioned him as a negative.

same in 2k17 - i got michael b jordan traded - just to see what it'd do to the narrative.

in this, i'd love to be given the choice of standing up for my teammate or being selfish.

i think if 2k wants to moralise and try and give gamers a snapshot of the real life issues athletes can face, they need to actually up the ante in terms of narrative choices. let us feel the ramifications for our decisions, so that we can actually have empathy for the characters.

its weird to see 2k talk about mycareer story like its anything but advertising lol

I agree, thats something I've been wanting for years now. I hope it is not something real quick and brief. I hope it is more than one SL game. Looks like there will be a AAU team. But didn't see NCAA despite the other video saying that he is a 4 year man and not leaving after Freshman or Sophmore year.

I agree. It would be nice to have less of linear story and more of a choice-based branching storyline. I'm tired of the immature and entitled protagonists.

I feel like the big hint at choices was when your team mate says his scholarship was revoked. I imagine you get the choice then of sitting out to show support for him or play, alienating your friend in the process. That seems logical enough to me.

I like that Che isn't a one and done. But I do wish we could have played all 4 years or at least choose to go back. Like in MLB the Show.

Also looks like Bay City is a fake college. We're probably gonna play against fake colleges if 2k didn't want to pay for NCAA licensing. I don't really care tbh as long as they get the atmosphere right.

Well 2k20 leaks posted a pic that there is a AAU team that name is Bay City and has a similar logo.

I acknowledge I'm in the minority but that was actually one of my favorite things about the original MyPlayer mode. It was pretty bare bones by comparison to today's version but I at least felt I was in control of what kind of person I wanted to be. I tapped out the moment the linear storylines kicked in. Totally did not see MyPlayer taking that turn all those years ago.
