Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
You guys have been arguing about this for months. I started this thread as a community misery thread. We ALL know there could be improvements made to match making. To say otherwise is ignorant.
New game is out soon, let's just chill..Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
You’re arguing semantics, homie. 3-man and 5-man squads playing and beating up on randoms has been around since 2k14. And them doing it as part of a Rec/Walk-On/JRC system has been a part of the game since 2k15.
Where was all this complaining about squads during 15/16/17/18/19? Or is this something that’s new to 2k20? Because I haven’t heard a single complaint about it around here until this year.
Its not sematics.
The matchmaking is different.
You are comparing an apple with a watermelon.
Park gives you much more freedom and info before a match starts.
Which you can pretty much backout at any point.
JRC only gives you some info about your teammates.
For someone that claims to have been playing so long its hilarious that you think its the same.
Well i have been playing solo since 2k14 and its getting worse with each new game.
Been playing this series since it came to the PS.
Now how does that amount of time stack up to those 2/3 weeks of yours?
Also my issue is my having to play with 4 AI teammates because people leave.
Its a given playing a stack.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I just accept for what it is now. It's really starting to annoy me even more of late because I'm trying to "protect" my overall, so wins are becoming increasingly important to me. Big picture, I don't care about my record that much (in fact, I have a losing record), but I HATE putting in work in a losing effort only to have my overall still drop.Comment

Homie, I’ve been playing 2k since the very first one on Dreamcast back in 1999, so let’s not compare who’s been playing longer.
Lol, you think you’re the only one who’s been playing solo? My G, I’ve done a balanced mixture of squad play and solo since 2k11 (the original Crew Mode for squad, and the 5v5 blacktop. If you think servers are bad now? Try getting 5 actual people on each team in blacktop without the match lagging like crazy). This includes Parks in 14 where the 5s court IMO was where the real ballers played, and the 3s court was for nothing more than practicing a new jump shot, the JRC in 15, Walk-On in 16-18, and The Rec in 19-20. Just because I said “2-3 weeks” doesn’t mean that’s the only time I’ve played solo. It’s me saying I stopped giving a **** and started mostly playing by myself because I got tired of waiting for people.
And yes, you’re exaggerating. Squads have been in JRC/Walk-On/Rec since the beginning. And I personally don’t care if they’re there or not. The difference is I don’t cry about it. If that’s the mode they want to play, then so be it. I play who’s in front of me. I don’t care how the other team plays, I care how the people on MY team play. I don’t put the blame on the other team for my losses (unless they are pulling some over-the-top exploits that shouldn’t be in the game in the first place), the onus is on me and the people on my team. If I played like garbage, I blame myself. If I’ve got a bunch of clowns on my team, I get on their asses after a while, or I’ll just roll up out of the game. But never do I sit here like a child and go “OMG I keep losing because people keep coming in as squads!!!”Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
You may not realize it, but you just stumbled across why people in this topic are crying about ‘squads in Rec’: Overall fluctuation. Because of that, your perception can be skewed in believing that there are more squads in Rec than ever before. Don’t let some of the people in here fool you, but in reality, it’s ALWAYS been like this. You’re just paying more attention because your overall is on the line.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
There's definitely more squads now versus when I was below 95 or whatever the number was. My educated guess is people are squading up to protect their overall. In the previous losses, I was still getting the accomplishment of badge progression regardless of the win or lose. Now that my overall and stats are tied to wins (NOT performance), then it more irritating to lose when the odds are stacked. Hell, I probably wouldn't care about squads as much if I could shrug my shoulders and be like "Well, I got mines". It's amazing how often I'm still able to get A ratings while my teammates are getting C's and D's with maybe one other person getting a B.
Trust me when I say those squads were always there. I run into around the same number of squads in July that I ran into around November-December. Like I said, though, you’re paying much more attention to it now because your overall is on the line after 95.Last edited by Caelumfang; 07-09-2020, 12:03 PM.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
And guess what? When the Rec DID give you shot % and records of your teammates, people cried about that too. Which is why 2k removes that information this year. Don’t believe me? Look through some of last year’s topics on this board.

Yeah JRC and park matchmaking is different.
I go into JRC to play with and against other users.
Playing with and or against AI is boring.
Going against a squad pretty much guarantees teammates quitting.
Your whole rant must be for someone else.
Also drop the dont care act.

Dude, in any 2k, you have a chance of playing with or against AI. It’s inevitable. It’s boring, but it is guaranteed to happen at some point. There is LITERALLY nothing 2k can do about that.
Teammates quitting is a THEM problem, not a YOU problem. Going against a squad or not, people will be people. Some will stick it out and try to correct how they play, some will quit in the first quarter because they went 0-3 from the field, or because they feel like a 7-point lead in the 1st is somehow an insurmountable lead.
Listen, at the end of the day, the ‘changes’ that you and a handful of people on here want are so inconsequential, it isn’t going to happen. When the devs pop up on Twitter or Reddit asking for what changes the community wants, I don’t see anyone popping on there saying ‘you shouldn’t let squads play in Rec’, ‘separate solo Rec from squad Rec’, or anything like that. That is literally the least of anyone’s concerns.
The matchmaking for Rec/Walk-On has been the same since 16. You can walk in by yourself, as a 2-man, 3-man, 4-man or 5 man squad with a mix of randoms or other 2 or 3-man squads, and be randomly matched up against an opposing team of the same exact things. And nobody cried or cared about ‘squads vs randoms’ at any point. And very very few, if anybody, ever cared about some sort of ‘solo Rec’. But now it’s supposed to change because a small handful of people on OS and maybe reddit have a problem with it this year? Yeah, let 2k jump right on that.
If they do somehow add a ‘solo Rec’, it’ll be absolutely hilarious and a complete ****show. And yet I can almost guarantee they’d remove it within a year or two because it won’t be played much. ESPECIALLY if fluctuating overalls make a return. Which is EXACTLY WHY people don’t want to play with randoms much this year.Last edited by Caelumfang; 07-09-2020, 01:53 PM.Comment

Go solo is just yourself trying to have some decent stat line alongside terrible teammates you gonna get.
Go with team its 9/10 case just mindless stat sheet grind with no competition.
I see people playing with dedicated tryhard squads wanting rec as it is to just grind "rep" without effort. It made finding new team/teammates unbearable because people seem to sway away from actual competative games more each year.Comment

What makes finding new teammates unbearable isn’t because you happened to go up against a squad, it’s because the quality of players has been consistently trending downwards. Hell, even in a blowout, you can kind of tell if a teammate has an understanding on how to play the game vs someone who doesn’t.Last edited by Caelumfang; 07-09-2020, 02:23 PM.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Funny that you say that, considering Rec/Pro-Am are definitely NOT the best way to grind rep.

In my opinion there should be squad vs squad only, there is no way really to have casual fun games with randoms in 5v5 full game scenario. Especially with this terrible archetype system where you also need extra synergy even with good teammates.
How it is now its most terrible system for a solo player and for a team player looking for competition. I used to hop in with squad (pro am abandoned last few years) for a hope to find other team , but the chance is way too low and it takes hours of boring gameplay vs randoms to finally get somewhat competative opponent. So we just had to quit playing.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Not just the artificial exp thing, but the showboating factor to have crazy statlines/averages and w-l ratio while not even being legit good at the game.

You want “squad vs squad“ only, but you all abandoned the “squad vs squad” only mode in order to go play a mode where your squad plays randoms. Then the people complain that beating up on randoms is boring, and there isn’t enough competition, so they quit playing. Yet....they LEFT the ‘competitive’ mode in the first place.
I’m lost.Comment
