Unfortunately the macros don't run on the mobile version of Google Sheets. I will look into a way to make a mobile version of the sheet though for those that don't have a computer.

I have updated the OP to include a link v2.0 of the spreadsheet which now looks like this.



This updated version contains new stories, as well as the ability to enter the lower and upper limits for rating increases/decreases paired with a separate RUN button used to then generate a random number between those limits.

The tutorial listed above is still how to use the sheet, the only change is when you are going to edit the player you can now run a separate function to determine how much a player's ratings increase or decrease which adds additional dynamics to the storylines as there are now far more options available to happen.

As always if you have any additional storylines you would like added let me know and I will add them! The more variety we can add to the sheet the more varied and unpredictable your MyLeague can be!

It's really up to you! I think what I'm going to do is run a few custom random-number-generators for things like how much to increase/decrease stats, how long into the season to wait before implementing the changes, whether to make those changes permanent or have them revert back to default after X amount of games, etc.

This thread really helped re-invigorate the game for me. Thanks OP!

I built a RNG with customizable upper and lower limits into v2.0 of the sheet so you can run those all in one place. Temporary versions of the storylines is a phenomenal idea and I can get those added into the sheet as well so you can either get temporary or permanent boosts/declines.

I don't want player editing to be a constant thing so maybe the temporary versions will be like 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. I will also adjust the breakout/decline stories (both permanent and temporary) to include some minor tendency edits so there will be a more noticeable effect by said stories.

Love seeing how this turned out with the additions and updates, should make for a unique playthrough for everyone that uses it to better simulate everything that happens in the NBA. Great idea and implementation!

Very interesting idea! Might i suggest for the Trade Me event to use the Trade Finder with a 1-29 RNG to determine the team/deal being made. Would somewhat replicate the sometimes weird deals being made irl, e.g Drummond to Cleveland.

Started a MyLeague as the Jazz with the deadline roster and ran it 10 times before the season start.
(Mavs) Porzingis +11 Shooting for 2 weeks
(Jazz) Bogdanovic +13 Shooting for 2 weeks
(Lakers) Howard -6 Post Permanent
(Suns) Bolden +11 Shooting Permanent
(Hornets) Hermangomez 63 Days Injury
(Jazz) Williams-Goss -3 Finishing 1 month
(76ers) Richardson +13 Post 3 months
(Bucks) Korver traded to Grizzlies
(Blazers) Trent -5 Shooting 3 months
(Raptors) Johmson -6 Shooting 6 months

Will probably run this 10 times a month to keep things mixed up.

This is pretty cool to be honest, I really like it.


Another cool addition could be the "Summer 3". Pretty much go to the all players tab and find a center who has a low 3 rating (say a D or an F) and increase his 3 point shot to a 70 and change the rating as well.


Suggestion for "the end is near" maybe have an additional point to change their peak end forward a few years? Another addition could be one where you can extend a players prime. (Go to find players and search by age. Find the 13th 28 year old and increase his peak end by 2 years).


Furthermore, there could be "Team Up" in which using the all-players tab find two players in the "upcoming free agents" and organize them to team up. Force them to decline their player options, and force them to the same team in the NBA. Could also add a random option to choose what team they will team up on (or 3, such as the demand a trade).


There is so many possibilities here and I love it.


Only question is how often would you use this? I am thinking of running it 10 times at the beginning of the year, 10 times in the new year, 10 times at the all star break, and 10 times at year end. I also have made all attribute changes permanent.


Edit: also could make some draft/off-season specific items. One that came to mind is a "Kobe"-ish demand that he will only play for a certain team. Force the team who drafts a certain player to trade him to a certain organization


What about the "Buddy Heild" Player turns out to be 2 years older than what people originally thought?

I like the Team Up thing in FA, that could give you the Kyrie-KD-DJ type storyline. The tough part on that is how a team would be able to clear the cap space to make it happen. You’d obviously have to control the team but you’d need to be creative in how to make the space. It’s too bad sign-and-trade isn’t a thing in the game.

Surprised by the Korver deal, not that it happened but more so that you didn’t override it considering his role on the Bucks. Though if you’re in the off-season already that makes more sense. What was the return on the deal?

I would just edit their contract to the point it turns into a one year deal.
